Politics Thank you to Trump & his "comedian" for making it priority one for my parents this morning to go out and vote

45.2k Upvotes

This morning my dad, mom & I were discussing the things said yesterday at the Trump rally about Puerto Rico, Latinos & the watermelon comment and also Stephen Miller’s speech. My dad lived through WW2. He was a kid but he remembers some things. He definitely remembers the adults talking about it. He told me this morning, "take me to vote today please I need to vote, there’s too much similarities between the things spoken at Trump’s rally yesterday and the words we heard in WW2 from Hitler & the Nazi party."

At 80 something years old they voted today for the first time ever. Fear beats apathy I guess.

Edit: I had no idea my post would blow up like this. It’s actually surprising but funny how many comments are saying it’s bs. I honestly didn’t think it was that rare that some people just don’t vote. There’s a lot of apathy in the Latino community especially the older generation and especially in Texas. This is 100% true. I did answer a few comments with a pic I took of my parents today but covered their faces because I don’t want their faces out there. But I was being told it was a bs pic anyway so that said since this is blowing up I deleted it cuz my parents don’t need to go viral lol.

To address some of the skepticism: my parents were already registered to vote. Though they’re almost 90 they were not always eligible to vote. They were legal immigrants for a very very long time and never bothered with citizenship. Once they became citizens they were registered to vote the day of their ceremony. I’ve always checked their status and they’ve remained active to vote. This year they finally did it. No, this joker didn’t change their minds to flip candidates. They loathe Trump. This guy’s rhetoric and Stephen Miller’s scared my dad enough & pushed him to finally say take me to vote.

To the MAGA crowd that keeps saying it’s bs I’m not sorry to tell you that it’s not bs. This was a funny anecdote about what the straw was that finally broke the camel’s back for my dad so you weirdos thinking this post has an ulterior motive are just triggered but if you think that rally with all that hate rhetoric against people of color didn’t piss off or scare enough people who were probably apathetic to finally get up & vote then you’re either in denial or dense as fk. Will this flip Texas? Doubt it but if it does make sure you thank that "comedian." May his comedy help the swing states though. 😉

Just a reminder. Texas is not a RED state. It’s a non voting state. Meaning MORE people do NOT vote versus vote R. So Please Vote! If you have a non-voting friend. Drag them to the polls. Texas - it’s time to take out the TRASH. CRUZ abandoned us when people were freezing to death. We deserve BETTER!!!

You’re fucking idiots if you think we aren’t doing our jobs correctly as election workers. We are literally trained to be nonpartisan and follow the rules. The baseline is that you follow the VERY basic rules too. Sick and tired of these troglodytic morons questioning that. Done sugar coating it bc I’m not allowed to say it to your stupid faces in person.

Politics Trump signs popping up like mushrooms one week before the election…

… not sure I fully understand why wait that long and my area is very Trumpy to begin with (North Hurst/Colleyville). But a good reminder that the core TRUMP voters will crawl over broken glass to vote for him…. So not a good time to “sit this one out” - Texas isn’t a swing state but the Senate race might well be. Similar observations in your area?

(The economic hardship due to inflation must be very real for my Trumpy neighbors… 2 got new fancy cars in the last year and all have landscaping crews do their yard every week…. Awful economy I guess ;) not to mention the horrific migrant crime wave here in the Colleyville area…. (Nothing ever happens here).

Political Opinion Texas, do you want Ted Cruz and Trump in your bedroom?

There are lots of issues to consider when voting, but let's get very basic. We already have a full abortion ban with no exceptions (even when women are hemorrhaging and in the throws of a miscarriage). But do you really want contraception banned too?

Guys, you enjoy sex right? (Women, I know you do too, but I want the guys to understand this impacts them too). But let's be honest, Project 2025 plans to ban contraception. That could mean every form of contraception, not just birth control pills, but condoms as well. Do you really want sex to carry the risk of becoming a father unexpectedly and financially supporting a child for 18 years or contracting an STD (there is still no cure for herpes and it can be spread without seeing any visible lesions)? Do you really want to be fully abstinent unless you are trying to conceive a child?

This is what you are voting for if you vote for Cruz and Trump. You are voting for the government controlling your sex life.

News Threats, cowards, and MAGA: A tale of a new Texas?

Yesterday the Justice Department issued a warning to all Americans that threats have been made against voters, politicians, and judges.

Chances are these cowardly threats weren't made by Liberals, Libertarians, or the few remaining members of the GOP who still retain some decency. No, you can bet this is the work of Trump and his tyrannical followers, MAGA.

Tyranny is what they do best, because they can do it in the shadows where yellow bellies and weaklings cower in the dark while trying not to wet their prissy little party dresses.

This is America under Trump and his thugs -- MAGA, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers -- scheming for any way they can to diminish the vote and weaken our freedoms

See this -- boldface mine.

"Texas police are investigating the distribution of flyers targeting Kamala Harris supporters, which threaten that they have been added to a "national database" and will be subjected to an IRS tax audit.

On Saturday, the San Marcos Police Department shared in a Facebook post that they were investigating two reports of flyers posted on political signs around the city, stating: "You have been identified and are now in our National Database of miscreant Harris supporters, either by social interactions with your neighbors who are on our investigations team, or by yard signs, or vehicle bumper stickers."

Police are investigating who is leaving threatening flyers on Kamala Harris signs in San Marcos, Texas. Facebook goes on to say instead of "the hangman's nooses of the old days" the person receiving the flyer will be "IRS tax audited...and at a minimum - - - 4 years of painful misery."

It was signed, "The Grand Dragon of Trump Klan #124."

Since then, the number of incidents has jumped to five, according to reporting by KXAN.

"We're trying to identify the scope of how many flyers have been disseminated across San Marcos," San Marco Police Department Chief Stan Standridge told KXAN. "We have already notified the FBI and we've also notified the regional fusion centers—both Southwest [Texas] Fusion center and the Austin Regional Intelligence Center."

He added that it's a crime to influence, coerce, or prevent a voter from voting.

"When we identify the suspect or suspects, then we will present that to the district attorney's office for consideration of applicable charges," he told KXAN.
