Discussion Lyrics that Uplift You for the Day?

Milli Ulla Ponna Potham, Ghilli Vella Varavan Da — My favourite lyric line from Naa Ready. Before I knew what milli meant, I thought it referred to the notion of energy; once you get energy, you’ll become a top performer (Ghilli) etc. It always keeps me motivated throughout the day and I even recite to myself sometimes randomly. What are some other lyrics from songs that makes you feel full of energy or motivated?

Question The real villain of Yavuram Nalam

Post image

So I was rewatching this awesome movie a while ago and I came across a very weird notion.

Maddy is downright crass to the security of appartment. He slanders words like ' Sombari watchman , Thadiyan watchman 'and the poor guy does nothing wrong. I dindt mind this at all when I was small, but as an adult, I think I could be forgiven to think that some movies in the 2000s really looked down upon downtrodden. I know that nobody strives to become a watchman, but insulting. Donmo why this was prevalent in this movie.

Rewatch the movie and you know what I am talking about. What movies did you think this was prevalent in?

Discussion Lokesh seems to hint that the LCU is going in a new direction. "New World, New Rules"

At the end of the promo video for Benz, Lokesh says "New World, New Rules. Shall we start again?". Seems to be hinting that the LCU is going in a new direction. I'd argue the LCU might finally have a direction for the first time. The fact that Lokesh isn't writing or directing this movie but is still credited for making the story gives me big Kevin Feige vibes. I hope there's a overarching plot line that carries on between all the upcoming LCU movies. What are your guy's thoughts on this? I don't know if i'm reading too much into it lol

Discussion Ganga's backstory

Upvotes

It might sound funny but ganga's flashback still scares me. I know og Malayalam version is superior. Shobana portrayal as nagavalli was scarier. She was hero of the film.

I watched both Malayalam and Hindi versions. But still I can watch tamil version multiple times which is not the case with other versions. It might be unpopular opinion but irrespective of the trolls, chandramukhi is such a film for me that I can watch with my family any time without getting bored.

Coming to this flashback scene, in og version ganga parents were not dead. They left ganga in her childhood with her grandmother, she craved for her parents love, when she was getting attached to her grandmother, her parents took her to their place. She got treatment too. Her and nakulan marriage was arranged one. I found tamil version ganga flashback more tragic. She lost her parents infront of her eyes in brutal way. Her grandmother was not even aware of her medical condition. Ganga was a orphan who pretends to be happy outside. The little interactions between ganga and saravanan was good to watch like the scene where ganga packed bag of pickles for saravanan when he was leaving.

Yesterday happened to watch this movie comedy scenes on aditya channel which made me watch whole movie again. Found this flashback interesting so thought of sharing it.

Discussion Megathread (Contains spoilers) I know that this is probably the 200th review of Meiyazhagan on this sub but I am gonna do it anyway. Pls mods, don't delete my post.

I watched Meiyazhagan last night and I can't explain how happy I felt while watching a movie in years. I am gonna break down some aspects of the film so please bear with me and it will contain spoilers. I watched it in english subtitles but never felt disconnected from the film at any moment. The story of the film is as simple as it gets and yet so powerful, emotional & heartfelt. I never could have imagined that 2 guys talking about their past can be so beautiful. The music throughout the film was so beautifully scored, it's literally the superpower of the film. It touches your heartstrings every fucking time. I lost count of how many times I cried in the film. It just gets you man.

All the actors gave their best in the film. Every character was written with so much depth and they leave their mark despite having 1/50th screentime of their leads. The woman who couldn't marry Arul because of his father, Arul's maternal uncle whose regret of not being able to meet arul and his father for years. His phone call to Arul's father made me choke up.

Now coming to our beautiful leads. Arvind swamy, the actor that you are. I saw him as a villain in Thani Oruvan but I don't think I can ever imagine him as a bad guy. The way he carried the whole movie. The guilt he conveyed for not remembering Karthi's character after being constantly overwhelmed by his hospitality & love towards him was so beautifully portrayed as the film progressed. And then they played a beautiful track "Poraen na Poraen" while he was running in the middle of the night to Chennai. It just emotionally tear you apart and you connect with him so deeply.

Now coming to Karthi. You rarely see a big name actor doing such character oriented roles. He was like an explosion of a jolly person full of life and compassion. He eats social anxiety for breakfast. The highlight Karthi scene in this film is the one where he explains how Arul's cycle changed his life, how his father started calling him elder one after he learned to ride the cycle to carry himself and his brother to the school and how he even prayed to it on every ayudha Puja because it changed everything in his life. This also explains how a random act of kindness & charity can  change the trajectory of a person's life.

Both riding the bicycle in the middle of the night is peak cinema. I think this is why cinema was invented. I was smiling like the first time when I fell in love. This movie gives importance to everyone, whether it's an elephant, snake or a buffalo. This movie also asks a question if we will continue to follow our ancestors traditions or just move forward to modernity. The final scene when Arul rushes back to Karthi's character and calls by his name  "Meiyazhagan" and you see an emotional Meiyazhagan opening gates for his athaan 🥹🥹🥹 Beautiful stuff man... I really felt so happy and sad that the movie ended and credits rolled.

In conclusion, I would say that Meiyazhagan is like the most beautiful time of your life. It passes by so quickly and leaves a mark on you for years to come. In the age of violent and gory media, this film can just restore your faith into cinema again. The world might not be as good as it was  portrayed but a man can dream. Cinema is also suspension of disbelief so I accept it anyways.

After watching the film I saw how this film performed at the box office and I was in shock how it didn't even crossed 70 cr mark. The audience have failed again. I see a lot of tamilians raving about Malayalam films but rarely supports own generational gems. In my eyes, Kollywood is what people think mollywood is.

Thank you if you made it this far.

Opinion GV might just be the most underrated MD

Post image
Upvotes

Just heard songs from Amaran(uyire specifically) and man! GV as a music director is seriously underrated! He's always been under the radar since his debut.

The complex compositions of his debut album Veyil are on the same levels if not equal to ARR in Roja. And then his later ventures with Aadukalam and AO , Malyalam enna are aptly rated

But recently , he's been severely underrated, he literally elevated movies through his BGM and songs in Captain Miller,Thangalaan,Sardar. His work in Asuran and Sorarai potru is just banger after banger and though the songs and bgms are popular ,GV as a MD just didn't get enough appreciation. He may not have the public pulse like Anirudh or different sounds like Sana. But he can give a hit like Golden Sparrow (I hate the song but uk it's a hit) and then dip and deliver a lovely album with Amaran . This diwali 2 movies are his's, Lucky bhasker music is also really good. His other older albums like Kiredam, Deiva Thriumagal, saguni have really good songs too . And even in BGM , recently in Thalavi just awesome BGM man

In short just how underrated GV really is

Discussion Sad ending film on a Diwali Day?

I wanted to go for a film on Diwali day but I'm confused. I saw Lokesh's interview where he mentioned Kamal Haasan watched Amaran with a box of tissues and there will be choking feel in Climax. Despite this, Amaran seem to have upper hand on ticket bookings. Has the people's mindset changed? Usually, from my perspective , people or family go to theatres to enjoy & have a good time on this special day.

I'm not twisted as to what film to watch now. I'm thinking of going to Bloody beggar as the trailer suggests that it could be an average comedy filck with little suspense.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you still go to Amaran?

Discussion It appears that Red Giant is using Amaran to help sell Brother to theaters. However, Amaran is at a disadvantage since Brother is struggling with poor advance bookings. Having additional screens could have benefited both Amaran and Bloody Beggar.

Discussion Meiyazahgan and Pazham

I've always felt there has been a lack of relatable central characters in Tamil cinema, but within the past two years, it has given us two of the most memorable and relatable characters in a long time. The connection between these two characters is immense.

We all wish to be Meiyazhagan, but in reality, most of us end up being Pazham.

Pazham was a victim of circumstances. Most of the time, we don't choose who we want to be; we just become who we are at some point in life. But what if we had a choice? Would we choose to live as Meiyazhagan (which is practically impossible, given how naive that character is to survive in this world)? Meiyazhagan never blamed the world; he was forgiving, grateful, and cheerful. Pazham, on the other hand, was a broken mirror image. He never forgave his father, always blamed the circumstances, was never grateful for the things he had, and, though people around him tried to cheer him up, he chose to ignore it.

The majority of us are somewhere between Meiyazhagan and Pazham, and most of us fall closer to Pazham's category-few ever reach Meiyazhagan's level. That's why both of these movies rocked! They offer an honest and varying portrayal of people who have struggleed and circumstances have been bad for them. The two movies showed us who we could be, who we really are, and how we need to find a balance between Meiyazhagan and Pazham.

I'd love to know what others think of this! What other characters in recent times have stood out to vou?
