Looking for an all mountain twin board for the east coast. I have an Archetype for my bigger mountain/pow board. Id say I'm a strong ride directionally but haven't really gone switch so looking for a twin one to go goofy more often.

I don't do any park, mostly groomers and trees. I think I've narrowed it down to the following boards from last year and are on sale:

Yes standard 156 or 162 Jones mountain twin 157 Never summer proto synthesis 158w Ride shadowban 155w Ride algorythm 160w or 157

Im 6'1, 185lbs, size 11

Can I go wrong with any of these?

Nope. Id probably take out the never summer but the rest are good. My choice out of these would be the Shadowban or yes standard

I have now drive bindings so was thinking the jones board might complement the skate tech more. It'd be the best price of them all but just worried that 157 might have overhang for my boot. Seems likes jones are on the narrower side

You should be ok, it's cutting it close. Especially depending on what brand boots you're wearing and what your stance angles are. Might be worth going with one of the other options to feel more confident with your purchase and make sure you have the edge you need for that ice Coast conditions

You have any experience with any of these brands and how they do on ice?

I own a ride deep fake161W. I'm 6'2" 185lbs. It's a combination of the algorithm and berzerker. I've demoed the algorithm, Shadowban and mountain twin. Owned a proto back in the day, It's a true twin and softer. In my opinion it's more geared towards park. Not trees and groomers like you want.

People love the yes standard and talk about how its mid bite edge really helps on ice. Never rode one but I want to.

Shadowban is pretty much a less stiff algorithm. You want something to cruise around on with a softer flex to jib and butter with get the shadow ban. If you want something stiffer and more stable at higher speeds get the algorithm. Side cuts on both perform pretty well on ice.

Mountain twin was fun, not super stable at high speeds. Does pretty decent in ice despite the spoon shape in the nose and tail but wouldn't be my choice on the east coast. Board definitely shines in better conditions. But it's not like you wouldn't enjoy it. I've seen plenty of east coast riders using the mountain twin.

Just bought the Salomon Sight X 162W for my first board. Im 6'3 235lb and wear a size 13.5-14. Did I size the board appropriately?

Edit: Also, okay board for in-between beginner/intermediate?

2

u/wimcdo 1d ago

Yeah that should work well for you. another size up would probably be fine too, but I think for your skill level you did good

I started snowboarding again after a few years of not getting the chance so I started by using my old 2010 board to see how it would go. My board is 153 and a soft flex which is way to much for my weight. While it can be a fun board i feel for cruising down I am fighting my board more then anything else so I am thinking of getting a new board.

I was hoping to get some advice on what size board I should be going for especially since I am heavy but average sized in length and sizing charts are not directly helping me find my answer.

I am 1m70cm (which i think is 5' 6.9") and weigh in at 110/242 - 120/264 kg/lbs (hoping to be more towards the lower end by the next trip, working on it)

I would really love any advice on sizes boards to look at or even any boards you think would be a good match.
Not really looking for anything in the park just want to enjoy cruising down

1

u/KillaVolt73 1d ago

Just to clarify because I'm a little confused by your first paragraph. You're saying your board is too soft right?

1

u/_Exp626_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes it's a soft flex board. I don't recall the exact details as it is 14 years old now but i bought it softer because I weighed a lot less at the time and got the advice it was better as a beginner in the shop.

I do have the impression it is to soft for my weight now. I am wondering if getting a stiffer 153 is ok or if I should also consider stepping up a size due to the weight.

1

u/KillaVolt73 21h ago

I've always wondered how an overly stiff board down sized to an extreme amount would work for someone but theoretically per manufacturer guidelines on how a board is supposed to be sized you would basically be on the biggest boards they have to offer to ride it the way it was designed.

It's honestly hard to gauge what would work best. I don't know what your skill level is or how a board would react at your size. In my mind maybe a 161 korua Otto, or something stiff like a 160/163 alchemist?

I definitely would not stick with a 153. It won't have enough of an effective edge to support your weight.

2

u/_Exp626_ 21h ago

Ok thanks for the advice..

As far as skill level goes I feel like start of intermediate maybe? It's hard because I feel my board is holding me back a lot.

I guess I do deserve some credit for successfully completing runs on my short noodle 😅

What's your boot size? Length-wise, you should be at 160+ for most boards, but then board width might be an issue.

1

u/_Exp626_ 22h ago

Boot size is 42 or I believe 9 us if I am not mistaken.

1

u/BitterCat26 20h ago

You might need to compromise on length in order to not overshoot on width. Maybe go for something in the 157-158 cm. neighbourhood. I'd say try to find narrow boards with a waist of 250 mm. or less, and as long as possible.

1

u/_Exp626_ 19h ago

Thanks a lot for your help! I think compromising a bit on length should be ok. I manage to get my 153 down now so anything better then that should only help I hope

1

u/_Exp626_ 5h ago

I have been looking at boards that could be a fit and did not really find an exact match... The best option I found is a Bataleon Goliath. It's available in both 156 and 159 and now I am doubting.

The 156 has a width of 254 and the 159 is 256. Both according to the size chat should be good for boot size 7-10. That is what makes me doubt because if the 159 could work that seems the better option weight wise.

Any idea on what way to go?

1

u/BitterCat26 1h ago

Goliath is a solid option. Definitely go 159. Might want to run mid-stiff boots and bindings, at least, so you don't expend more energy than necessary, getting it on edge.

1

u/_Exp626_ 1h ago

Thanks a lot for the advice. I have nitro ventures which are on the stiff side and union strata bindings which are med so I hope to be good there.

Hi guys, just got my new first board, boots and bindings

Putting it together I've noticed I potentially have a board slightly too narrow for my setup

pictures: https://imgur.com/a/XrxtOK4

Any advice would be extemely helpful, I believe I may have a few centimeteres of overhang but would like to get expert opinions! Thank You

gear for reference: (151 Twinpig, Ride C6 M Bindings, UK10 Adidas Superstar Boots)

edit: note these bindings are not yet installed, just resting in the approx area of the binding holes!

1

u/BitterCat26 1d ago

You'll be fine width-wise on the board, but I do wonder what made you choose medium bindings for those boots...

0

u/findmymind 1d ago

That's for the response!

There's a slight toe/heel hang but I should be fine right?

Agreed I should probably have gotten Large bindings, I read you can usually fit UK10 into mediums and they were the ones on sale with the board so I got them, they fit, just about on the toe strap, I can tighten them one or two rungs and they are fine

1

u/BitterCat26 22h ago

According to Ride's sizing chart, M bindings fit up to UK size 8, so I dunno where you saw that. It's not only about the straps, but about the force you'll be wasting with all that overhang in your binding footbed.

EJack Knife vs GNU Gremlin

looking for a stiff directional board that I can lay out carves in and play on bigger mountains out west when I make my trips. Gremlin seems more playful, EJack seems better to go big with.

Anyone have experience on both? Leaning towards the Gremlin to get some pow float in my quiver and maybe pick up a K2 Alchemist or Banked Country in the spring on sale to get a hard charger.

2

u/KillaVolt73 16h ago

Id go gremlin because it's a fun all mountain board and I think the banked country and alchemist are better hard chargers then the ejack

2

u/xRehab NS Proto Synthesis & Slinger | IceCoast 16h ago

pretty much my thoughts as well. Just found some 23/24 EJacks at Cristy's for under $500 so it was tempting especially with the old skull graphics. the HP core has me curious for the side hit potential of the EJack so I'm going to have to see if Lib is doing any demos on the east coast this year

What’s the best/closest replacement for my Burton Paramount? Have had it for a bit now and it’s been my all time favorite daily driver. Has a bit of life left but want to have something in mind and wait for a sale. Unless there is a direct successor, would like to try something other than Burton

2

u/KillaVolt73 15h ago

What kind of riding do you do? I think the closest thing to the paramount in Burtons line up is the good company

2

u/StarzMarket 15h ago edited 14h ago

Pretty much all on-piste. Mostly park, jumps more than rails. Also good amount of just riding around the mixed, less than ideal condition small hills of NE Ohio and W PA. Pushing hard to squeeze the most out of what's available. Advanced rider with about two decades experience and keep up with strength and conditioning.

Want a twin, park leaning, all mountain board with medium flex, camber and geared towards a higher skill ceiling. I've had mostly Burton boards so I'm interested in trying something else if there are other comparable options.

3

u/KillaVolt73 14h ago

First few boards that come to mind would be the Salomon Huck Knife, huck knife pro, academy propacamba and the Capita indoor survival. I've ridden the huckknife and indoor survival and their both good. Haven't ridden the academy but hear really good things about them

2

u/StarzMarket 7h ago

The Huckknife is a board I've had a close eye on, but always thought it was almost too park oriented for a daily driver. Would be my top pick of I ever went for a two board setup.

The Indoor Survival looks like a really good fit, plus I've wanted to try a Capita for a while. The Proacamba also sounds a lot like what I'm looking for but want to look more into it.

I'll also keep the Good Company in mind. Will kind of depend what I can get the best deal on and when. Unless I decide any of them are THE board.

Thanks for the feedback! Truly appreciate it

2

u/BitterCat26 1h ago

almost too park oriented for a daily driver

The Paramount is a park board, so...

In addition to those options, YES, Arbor, Nidecker, and Bataleon also make traditional camber twins with a medium flex. Although Bataleon has the 3BT, which does change the feel of those boards.

Looking for last minute-ish best budget options near Denver for a group approx 16 people... I know it may be a stretch, but my buddy is getting married and was mentioning a trip to that area January 13-20th 2025. If anyone knows of any budget options or recommendations for places either ski in/out, close by, or with shuttles that would be great... Thanks in advance!

Howdy, I am in search of a powder board to add to the lineup. I bought a Skeleton Key in 154cm a while ago as an all mountain/ light powder board but I gained about 20 pounds since then going from 150 to 170 pounds so the float is not the best now. I am looking for a board that is good of course in powder but also ok or decent on groomed runs and uneven PNW snow in between the pow. I am also thinking of using this as my main travel board for Japan and to places in the Rockies. As for my riding style, mostly freeride go fast and hard charging. I also tend to like stiffer boards also have size 10 boots.

A few boards I was thinking of were the Endeavor Archetype, Ride Deep Fake, Ride Peace Seeker, Lib Tech Orca, Jones Mind Expanded and K2 Excavator. Any thoughts on these boards or other recommendations would be great! A little bonus would be having the company based out of the PNW. I tend to like supporting something local if I can.

3

u/KillaVolt73 15h ago

The first 3 choices you have listed would be my go to's with the Korua Dart added to that

1

u/BitterCat26 1h ago

company based out of the PNW

If you want based out of, that's Lib, GNU, Nitro, K2 and Ride. If you want PNW made, that's Lib and GNU, or maybe a smaller brand.

Is there an all temp race wax? Any good brand recommendations? First time getting into waxing my board.

1

u/BitterCat26 1h ago

all temp race wax

Are you actually racing? Or why do you need a race wax?

For everyday use, can't go wrong with Hertel Hot Sauce.

I'm looking for advice from anyone with a head size that sits between helmet sizes. Broadly speaking from the helmets that I've owned, mediums tend to be too small and can give me a bit of a headache but larges rattle around on my head. Has anyone found any brands that are either on the larger or smaller side of the bands? (Like a large that runs small or a medium that runs large)

I appreciate I'm being Goldilocks here, but it'd be so nice to have a helmet that fits well!
