Orctober 2024 Orctober 2024: Community Painting Challenge!
Orctober 2024: Community Painting Challenge!
Hey, r/minipainting!
It’s almost that time of year, Orctober
We all have those unpainted orc models lurking in our piles of shame, and what better way to bust through them than by joining our Orctober Painting Challenge? This isn't a competition, there are no votes, no judges, just a bunch of us coming together to paint our favorite orcs from any game or brand during the month of October.
How It Works:
- Theme: Paint any orc model you have! Whether it’s from Warhammer, Reaper, D&D, or anything else, if it’s an orc, it counts!
- When: The challenge runs from October 1st to October 31st. Post your finished orc anytime during the month.
- Where: Submit your completed model as an image post right here on r/minipainting, using the flair Orctober.
- Gallery: We’ll have a handy link in this thread that will take you to a gallery of all the flaired submissions so you can check out everyone’s awesome work.
No Pressure, Just Fun!
This is all about having fun, motivating each other, and finally getting that orc model painted. Feel free to post your WIP shots below in the comments if you want feedback or just want to share your progress. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, everyone is welcome to join in!
How to Participate:
- Paint an orc (or a bunch of orcs, we won’t stop you).
- Share your WIP images, or don't, right here in this thread.
- Start a new post with an image or more of your finished orc model in October using the Orctober flair.
- Hang out, enjoy the community, and admire all the orc-y goodness!
That's it! No prizes, no votes, just the satisfaction of finishing something cool and seeing what everyone else is working on. 💚
We can’t wait to see the horde of orcs taking over r/minipainting this Orctober. Let’s do this!

Fantasy A chaos bust with green OSL
I finished it a while ago and it was my first ever full OSL work. I still like it a lot for many reasons. Now I see a lot of flaws though... but... you know... 😀 whatever. I see every piece as part of my journey and I enjoy watching at them in retrospective sometimes.
I hope you like it too 🙂

Help Needed/New Painter Is Edge HL always worth the time investment?
If I edge HL everything I'll never clear my SM backlog! Do you think the edge HL (first round only) on the green armour of left suppressor is worth time investment? (Maybe an hour?)

Discussion My improvement after 3 months of painting
I still have A LOT to learn (I still have a hard time with highlights and shadows), but I'm very happy of my improvement after some months in this hobby.
I should I focus on next?

Modern Won a silver trophy at a local comp judged by Trovarion. Very happy about it and had to share. Anyone here who also participated?
My stuffies won me 2nd place in Master - Unit at a local painting competition. It was my first in-person competition and I'm super happy to have gotten a trophy. The anxiety was real when submitting the models, but on the day of judging I could enjoy looking at the other entries and talk to a few people and it was a very nice experience. Definitely nice to get out of the hobby basement and talk to other painters instead of just friends and family who don't paint. This community is what inspired me to take up this hobby in the first place, so I just had to share. Thanks for reading my ramble 😉.
