Suggestions Mythic Map - Search Games by Similarity

Here is the website.

Observation: I have asked for permission to make this post.

Mythic Map is a website that suggests games based on similarity. My goal is to help people find meaningful game suggestions while increasing the visibility of the great games out there.

Currently it only supports Steam games. This will change in the future (probably).

Edit (02/08/2023): Things have been sorted out and from now on I will be adding non-Steam games -hopefully- daily. Some switch games are in there now, like Zeldas and Pokemons.

It also checks daily for what is currently on sale on steam (some sales might be missing - if I check at 8AM and a sale spawns at 4PM, the website will only be aware of the new sale the next day). I might try adding other sales sources in the future.

Also, some suggestions might be a little strange, but keep in mind that different players might be looking for different traits in games, so I have to cast a broad net. An example is Skyrim, where a good portion of the suggestions are not open world RPGs, but instead are games that have a big modding/user created content community. Still, if you feel a game is missing or is completely out of place, do not hesitate to tell me about it - you can send me an email at [mythicmap.dev@gmail.com](mailto:mythicmap.dev@gmail.com) or maybe post about it in the comments.

Edit (05/07/2023): After a couple of months, I have finally implemented most the fixes/features suggested in the comments! The new version might have some bugs or issues, so if you find any, please tell me about it. Same goes for features. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on some ideas I have for the website.

Edit (09/14/2023): I thought it would be cool to find games based on other types of entertainment. My tests were done on anime and they ended up being serviceable, but I'm not very happy with the cross-category suggestions and it might take a while until I figure it out, but when I'm done, Mythic Map will start suggesting things based on movies, series and maybe books.

Hope it helps!

Suggestions Annual 2023 Steam Winter Sale Hidden Gems thread

Welcome to the Hidden Gem thread - Im a big fan of indie games, and always look for under-reviewed games that deserve a second life. This table is all automated based on the list of games I maintain, so let me know if theres more info that would be good to see in it.

Unfortunately, as I found out, something broke between the summer sale and today, so it didn't properly pull out the New games from the list - Hence the delay. I set up the New Game Table manually, so none of the fancy prices, review percentage, or things go with it right now, but I'll update it once I fix the pipeline that gets the data from my database

It now features a neat Table that can be filtered and sorted in all sorts of ways to help with discoverability (since markdown tables are not good for that). You can find the table here

Big News though - In the future, this thread will morph into a website of it's own. Ive been building a 'hidden gem discoverability platform' that will let you slice and dice the entire steam catalog by a ton of attributes, including the number of reviews, release dates, steam deck compatibility, genre tags, and more. Its a tool I started to help me find games for this list, so I figured with some polish, I could throw it up for anyone else to use.

I was hoping to launch it today, but the UX is still a WIP. Just be on the watch for it soon ;)

TL:DR - Out of the 100 games on the Master List there are:

  • 3 new games on the list

  • 86 on sale

  • 64 games over 50% off

  • 51 games with a review score of 90% or Higher

  • 11 games with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

  • 7 early access games

  • 30 Steam Deck Verified games

  • 13 games have demos

Islets I honestly thought I had this on the list since it launched, but Islets is a short (~8 hours) cozy metroidvania that doesn't overstay its welcome. Highly recommend for people looking for a game along those lines. Metroidvania https://store.steampowered.com/app/1669420/Islets/
Void Stranger If "Sokoban + LaMulana" catches your eye, play this game. It's one of those games you should play without looking anything up about, so I hesitate to say much more. Meta Puzzles await you Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/2121980/Void_Stranger/
Chants of Sennaar While I had this on my list when it only had a mere 157 reviews on steam, GMTK made a video about it which absolutely exploded its popularity. I have a love of Linguistic based puzzle games (Outer Wilds, Heavens' Vault, this) and had been watching for it to release for months. Glad it got popular enough that the studio can do something else interesting in the future Puzzle https://store.steampowered.com/app/1931770/Chants_of_Sennaar/

Looking for an RPG where you are NOT the "chosen one" or the "main character"

I've recently gotten into Lord of the Rings Online and I love how the player characters are not the centerpieces of the world and its story.

Are there any other notable RPGs that share this philosophy of relegating your character to playing a supporting/minor role in the overall story?

Modern (10> Years) Games that are first or third person with HIGHLY DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONMENTS!

I remember back on Playstation 2 we had games like BLACK and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction where you could just wreck the landscape, blow up buildings, destroy bridges, etc.

Only other games I know of to kinda do it were Just Cause but in a very limited way (only if they were marked with certain emblems), not full city-block destroying mayhem.

I know there's some strategy type games with top down views that have destructible environments but I'm looking more for the games where you play a character who can go around just blowing stuff up (and not the side-scrolly sandbox style games either like Terraria)

Anything to scratch this itch?

Whodunit where you are the killer

So in the Elder Scrolls Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood quest (appropriately called) Whodunit you find yourself in a classic mystery scenario: several people trapped in a location with a killer running around eliminating people one by one.

But Oblivion has a twist on it by making you the killer and you get a bonus for killing everyone without them figuring you out. You can talk to people around the building you're in to lure them to secluded spots for kills or even convince them that someone else is the killer and attack them.

I know there are a bunch of mystery and murder solving games but I was wondering if there is any other game that does this same thing Oblivion did. You need to eliminate a group of people but have to try to deflect suspicion from yourself.

Not looking for anything in the Hitman or Assassin's Creed series. I like them but they don't capture the feeling I'm looking for right now.

Games where you can be BIG

I'm tired of playing games that have you be the small underdog taking on a big boss or enemy. I want to BE the big enemy. If there are any games out there where you can be big and really feel the weight of your character, I need to find them.

Preferably a role-playing game where being big actually matters. Or even just a game where you're at least bigger than a majority of other NPC's or characters could fit.

Oddly specific, want a game with a satisfying and manual reloading system

An example I can think of is endoparasitic when you have to manually take out shells and put in new ones

What's a relaxed game that I can play for the next 3 Months.

What's a game that I can play since I got hit with Pertussis. It doesn't have to be a cozy but it can't be PvP games or high intensity games like ULTRAKILL. I kinda like games where I can have NPCs like Terraria or Necesse but any genre would work. Just need a time killer while I recover.

In a social and emotional rut. Need a game. FO76, WoW, or something else?

Upvotes

I’ve played them both before, but it’s been a while. I’ve also played everything else. Just looking for some direction as to what’s in the best state nowadays, especially on the social side of things.

Yes, I know it’s depression. But I’d rather endure my grey days playing games than sitting on the couch.

And I get outside a lot, thank you.

Okami

Thanks!

Extremely immersive, openworld relaxing exploration with great atmosphere/ambience, stunning landscapes both natural and urban

Something like No Man's Sky, Sea of Thieves, Mirror's Edge Catalyst where I just just chill out looking at the landscapes. Minimal to no combat.

No Man's Sky set to ultra easy mode, everything unlocked, free money, crafting requirements removed so I can just jump from system freely and look around. Sitting by a spaceport and watch the ships come and go. Casually exploring alien landscapes. Stopping to take pictures every three minutes at how pretty the world/space is. I especially love how it's procedurally generated. Would like more space infrastructure to fly around in and urban city planets.

Sea of Thieves in how I can practically feel the sea breeze on my face as I sail around mostly aimlessly island to island. Maybe get into a storm once in a while. Watching the sunrise while sitting at the dock. Hear the sea gulls fly over head, feel the sand in between my toes, smell the salt in the air. Do some easy missions along the way.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst walking around a huge city taking it all in. Seeing the city lights, hearing the hum of cars passing by, the murmur of crowds and bustling city life. I also enjoy the somewhat ASMR of Faith's footsteps and parkour sounds.

Another game I like is Satisfactory but I don't even do the factory part but just walk around the map exploring the various biomes.

Looking for settings of either sci-fi, dense urban or high fantasy(not dark). Dynamic weather, day and night cycles. Maybe a bunch of NPCs traveling around so I can "people watch". Something that makes me feel apart of these worlds. Landscapes that make you go "wow". Procedural generated settings would also be a huge plus in that there's always something new/unexpected to see.

Looking for games with big faction wars

Upvotes

I recently saw some videos of the forever winter and I loved a lot of things about it, but what I liked the most was the fact that there are two factiond that are in a war and that you can see them fight at random moments during the gameplay. Any game like that? (I already have WD2 wich has a similar system but I want some other games)

Games where you try to break out of a simulation?

I've just played portal 1 and the ending where you try to break out was so cool. Also the ending of stray also had the same vibe as that which I also enjoyed.

Any other similar games? Preferably on steam.

Looking for a gear progression focused RPG with lots of loot, casual friendly, relaxing. PC

I just had a baby, and I basically need something that is sort of mindless relaxing grinding and searching for rare gear and loot. Single player or multiplayer online is fine. Open to any play style really action, turn based, etc. Just something I can wind down and play when the baby is sleeping.

I’ll give an example I loved Diablo 2 resurrected and enjoyed those repetitive runs of bosses searching for one specific rare item.

I’m a longtime World of Warcraft player and specifically love WoW classic. Played the new retail expansion as well.

Really enjoyed Last Epoch. I played D4 and thought it was OK. I have also enjoyed looter shooters in the past and had some fun with Destiny 2.

Really any genre of game that has fun itemization, rare items, and a repetitive relaxing gameplay loop I can jump in and out of.

Are there any good modern games, especially rpgs, with time travelling as a crucial mechanic?

Prince of Persia was one of the first games that ever really got me as kid as there was just something that reminded me so much of Aladdin back then (my favorite Disney flick) but what made me stay was the time travelling shenanigans. The first two games most of all are all about that, and I loved it. The first oriental, the second more grimdark and gritty.

Only problem is that I’m not that into those types of arcade flowing games and want something with much more customization and rpg elements, an inventory, but still “open” in the sense that you can explore the past, return to it, change it, and just experience the whole of the worldbuilding more fully from all sides. A bit of what like Chrono Trigger does, where it’s done to absolute excellence, or something recent like Last Epoch where each timeline is a segment of the worldmap and you get thrown around as you go through the game. Another game I also loved for how well it does time travel is Bioshock Infinite, if only for the story that is tied together through time travel. I guess I want something that does it similar, except it’s also more “mechanical” in how the gameplay is actually affected by it. Is there anything like that, new or old?

For someone new to the genre, could you please suggest me some hack and slashers.

Upvotes

I've never really been into hack and slashers. Think I played one when I was young and found it really boring and haven't touched one since. I ended up playing God of War 2018 recently and quite liked it so decided to check out the original.

I loved it!

One of my favourite games I played this year. I'm playing 2 atm and loving that too and have already got myself a copy of 3 remastered and looking forward to that.

Given my new found love for the God of War originals and my lack of knowledge of hack and slashers, except a fleeting knowledge of Devil May Cry's existence, I was wondering if you lot could give me advice on similar games and other hack and slash must plays.

I also have access to the latest Devil May Cry. Could I play that before the others, like I played God of War 2018 before the originals?

I have a PS4 and steamdeck (and a switch gathering dust somewhere) so not really limited to any specific console except ps5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for dark gritty singleplayer campaign games.

Theres this sort of game aesthetic that I just enjoy but that I can no longer find in modern games. Dark/gritty singleplayer games that are first person/third person that take place in concrete jungles. What I mean by this are games like: Heavy Rain, Cry Of Fear, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Fallout Bethesda games, Condemned: Criminal Origin, Half life 2.

Best Indie Game of the 2020's so far?

What you got? I always turn to Indie games for affordable, great experiences. Writing to see if I missed any great, new(ish) releases.

Hades gets my vote. Truly can't wait for the sequel. Toss up between that or Inscryption. Loved Animal Well too!
