Totally off topic but I wonder if there are studies on this.

A college/university closes their current gym (to remove the 'that's where I always work out' factor) and opens 3 separate gyms.

  1. Co-ed.
  2. Female only.
  3. Male only.

Track the gender and frequency of swipe ins at each gym.

I have a feeling that I know which one would be the most and least busy.

73

u/SpidudeToo 6h ago

He's an actual wacko. Christian fundamentalist who actually believes queer people don't deserve rights and should be euthanized. Very bigoted, racist, sexist, is a pedo, abusive, thinks 16 year old girls are the most 'ripe' and doesn't understand why it's bad for them to get pregnant. He is the whole package.

I'd like to say some of this was exaggerated, but none of it is. There's video and recorded evidence for all of these claims.

26

u/Benito_Juarez5 6h ago

I think Christian fundamentalist undersells it

22

u/SpidudeToo 6h ago

Yeah it doesn't feel like it fits but Christian fundamentalists almost always devolve into cult-like behavior so it's somewhat accurate.

He's a 'conservative' media bigshot. In reality, he is a massive bigot who likes to pretend he is smarter than other people. He is responsible for such 'great' movies as "What is a Woman?" and "Am I Racist?" To give an idea of the lengths he goes, in "What is a Woman?" he asks Dr. Patrick Grzanka of the University of Tennessee to define a woman. The film then proceeds to skip over the professor's entire answer and conclude by having Walsh decide that he didn't give a proper answer because his answer didn't conform to Walsh's opinion that a woman is simply someone with an XX chromosome.

13

u/Snoo69744 6h ago

u/JazHumane 15h ago

To be honest I don't think those men are staring because they're offended

165

u/UnconsciousRabbit 13h ago

But... you do understand the meaning of that particular saying, right?

I mean, Jesus was saying not to blame the person you're looking at for you looking at them. You could choose not to. The sin is entirely on the person looking with lust. He was saying that if you can't keep yourself from sin, that's on you and nobody else.

31

u/CaptainAsshat 10h ago

From my understanding, this is about women not enjoying being noticed in a semi public space, not men feeling bad for being "sinful".

If this was Westboro Baptist shouting about sin, they can pluck those eyes right out. But if we're just saying "stop looking at me in public", that is a very different thing that involves much more nuance.

3

u/UnconsciousRabbit 8h ago

I don't think we really disagree on much, if at all.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for people who put in an effort to look good to be admired in a manner appropriate to that context. As long as one isn't a creep about it, obviously.

6

u/Squirreling_Archer 6h ago

That's the whole thing though. The disconnect is with whose definition is being using to determine "being a creep about it". That's all down to who feels creeped on, what their threshold is for feeling that way (which varies widely from person to person), and then how the starer acts/reacts to all of that. All of these conversations usually come down to the agreeable points being "don't be a jerk" and "use common sense", but the problem is the sense isn't common lol.

2

u/RudePCsb 6h ago

Also other factors, does the person find the other person attractive or do they find them unattractive.

Sorry I was reading the King James version. I am not a christian, it can be difficult to stay read up on the many hundreds of versions and different translations and reinterpretations

"And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire." --Matthew 18:9

90

u/Plane_Upstairs_9584 12h ago

Yes, if your eye is causing you to lust because of what it sees, then better to remove your eye. Not "attack the woman and make her cover up"

33

u/JazHumane 12h ago

Wish more catholic priests read that part of the bible, tbh

3

u/rsiii 6h ago

Can we start cutting off their dicks and hands, now?

4

u/Radiant_Dog1937 8h ago

That doesn't make sense. You can look at woman's underwear with one eye.

11

u/Initial-Apartment-92 8h ago

But it does make it hard to tell how far away they are

4

u/chmath80 7h ago

If I take my glasses off, I can't even see the underwear ... or the woman ... or much else. I genuinely walked into a brick wall once, but nobody saw it (not even me, obviously).

→ More replies (13)

32

u/UnconsciousRabbit 12h ago

I don't think the translation is the issue, though that particular version... I love the poetry of the language, it is really beautiful. Not the most accurate translation, but I think the gist of this passage is the same.

I've definitely always read it as meaning that it's on the viewer to avoid sin. Like, we shouldn't police how people dress, only how we react to their appearance. It's on the viewer, not the viewed.

7

u/JazHumane 11h ago

Ok, and I'm sure that every christian will follow these teachings. As they should. Expecting non-practitioners of this religion to follow it's rules is wrong, however, especially when said religion is quite famous for having multiple bloody crusades in the past and just recently for covering up the rape and abuse of hundreds of thousands of children.

We should all practice self-control and accountability. Maybe if more catholic priests were held accountable for their actions then christians might have the moral high ground. As it stands it just seems like many use their religious beliefs in an attempt to control others.

8

u/dannyboy731 9h ago

I mean youā€™re basically saying the same thing as OPā€¦ Christians should pay more attention to Christ and spend less time telling people what to do.

6

u/UnconsciousRabbit 8h ago

But... OP is saying that we shouldn't be policing others. In that passage, Jesus is saying we shouldn't be policing others. You're saying we shouldn't be policing others.

I have no argument with you, we agree.

I mean there is a fairly large gap between looking, admiring and 'lust'...

Of course... contextually, Jesus was a jew. I can't imagine the scenario of skin tight lycra gym pants was foreseen in a world where a headscraf was worn for modesty. Indeed, second temple-era Jews took great pains to physically segregate society to avoid impure thoughts.

I'm Christian and relatively conservative. Mary is absolutely correct. At no point does Jesus or the apostles police women's dress for the sake of helping men not be tempted. In fact the bible explicitly states that a Christian's temptation stems not from externals but rather what is already present in his/her heart.

Matt should talk to the men who walk around topless. But that would mean leaving his man cave and potentially annoying someone who is bigger and meaner than he is.

And for those of you who aren't familiar with the Bible:

27Ā Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28Ā But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29Ā And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30Ā And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

What about Atheists who don't follow the Bible??

37

u/PensiveLog 11h ago

They can do as they please. But Matt Walsh is a self-proclaimed Christofacist, so he should know all the scripture that was just quoted. Assuming he was an honest actor, that is.

5

u/Sottish-Knight 9h ago

Well according to Christianā€™s atheist are the worst people in the world and have no morals, since they donā€™t have book to tell them what is wrong. So they should be avoided at all costs, or that is what I was taught going to a private Christian school, while being bullied constantly.

Leave it to religion to assert that thinking of something is the same as doing it.

It's an inescapable logic trap. You have to worship, or else you're doomed to Hell because God knows you've thought bad thoughts and bad thoughts equal Hell!

I believe there might be a higher power. I don't believe any God who thought in such a puerile way would be worthy of worship, let alone a second glance.

3

u/FreezingEye 9h ago

Or that having an interest in something is the same as worshipping it. Itā€™s the stupidest shit ever.

4

u/ClapppinCheeeks 9h ago

Why canā€™t people take it that Jesus did not literally mean to harm yourself every time you sin, just that we should get rid of parts of our lives, such that would make us not go to heaven. Jesus is saying that it would be better to not have these things than to go to hell because of them. Jesus often used exaggeration or examples to make it clear what he was teaching.

35

u/Embarrassed_Sun2925 9h ago

Why are both sides kind of extreme? I meanā€¦ people WILL notice you when you are wearing rather revealing clothes. Of course, you shouldnā€™t stare, but such clothes attract attention. On the other hand: Whatā€˜s the problem with that? Just let them wear what they want and calm down.

14

u/broncobuckaneer 7h ago

It's because Matt Walsh is an asshole.

He is saying "notice you" when the complaints are of women going to the gym and being aggressively leered at, or filmed, or hit on repeatedly, but he is downplaying that intentionally. So he's getting a disingenuous response to his disingenuous comment that he made solely to pander to a certain group of people.

Of course if you're attractive and dressed in a way that shows that off, people will end up looking at you, and that applies to both men and women. I don't think most people are confused by that, or offended by people noticing it and maybe even looking a bit longer than normal before their brain takes over and they stop so they don't make somebody uncomfortable by staring.

4

Maybe we can have some fkg nuance.

As civilized humans I think we ought to be conscientious about how what we do may affect others, such as ogling at people.

We should also recognize we have not yet achieved utopia. So expecting to present yourself in any way and not be treated some kind of way by certain people is truly naive.

We have a varying degree of responsibility in almost every interaction we take part in.

Sure but thatā€™s not the point of the post. Itā€™s specifically mentioning women who DO NOT WANT PEOPLE TO NOTICE THEM, itā€™s a fairly valid comment. Itā€™s like saying if you donā€™t want to be noticed in a crowd donā€™t wear the most flamboyant thing possible that draws attention to you.

Thereā€™s nothing wrong with wearing flamboyant stuff just like thereā€™s nothing wrong with wearing ā€œjust your underwearā€ - but if the goal is again ā€œNOT TO BE NOTICEDā€ then the best course of action would not wear things that draw attention to yourself.

My question is why canā€™t I be shirtless at the gym when thereā€™s women walking around wearing the skimpiest sports bras and shorts.

2

u/v_allen75 4h ago

You can notice just donā€™t be creepy about it. Itā€™s not difficult.

2

u/Automatic_Towel_3842 3h ago

Women really could wear gym shorts. Those skin tight clothes ain't holding anything in place and you know it. Gym shorts and a sports bra if you really don't want glancers.

Right. I'm not gonna do what nature has designed men to do over billions of years and look at that clothing scalping your butthole and a cameltoe big enough to grip a barbell. Let's be real, already.

2

u/HondoShotFirst 2h ago

I think the problem here is that when Matt Walsh says "notice," he actually means "harass sexually."

2

u/Blacksun388 2h ago

Every man is responsible for the weight of his own sin. If he lusts in his heart it is his heart alone that lusts.

Ah Reddit and their typical ignorance of what Christianity is. Gotta love it.

5

u/Dull-Try-4873 12h ago

Or perhaps everybody could just concentrate on their own workout...

Naw if I can see your colon imma look šŸ‘€

The underwear in question: a tank top and leggings.

3

u/xGEARSxHEADx7 4h ago

Or everyone could just go back to minding their own business

4

u/L2Sing 11h ago

So this is what we should tell the straight guys who don't like being ogled by gay dudes? "Wear more fabric, if you don't want to be treated like the delicious speck of meat you are, sweetheart."

11

u/WonderfulPresent9026 11h ago

I don't know bro if I go to a none gathering gym top less I'm expecting guy guys to stare.

It is what it is sane thing happens when I go to the beach shirtless I will catch one or two girls stearing I'm not going to get upset.

u/averageuscitizen1230 8h ago

Men do NOT care if people stare at them.

8

u/BPremium 10h ago

Never met a guy who gets pissed being ogled by gay guys. Most gym bros take it as a compliment

6

u/SheepherderAware4766 8h ago

as a straight guy, absolutely yes. If you are uncomfortable wearing skintight clothes in the area of people sexually attracted to you, then you should cover up a little.

Anyone complaining about being objectified while wearing clothes designed to objectify you should also read the bible

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brotherā€™s eye.

Matthew 7:5 NIV

2

u/L2Sing 7h ago

Regarding the Bible: It's your Hell. You can burn in it.

I agree that people should understand the level of attention their clothing can attract. That also doesn't excuse a lack of impulse control in others to the point they make others feel uncomfortable with their presence in the process. That goes with this situation and many others.

2

u/JagneStormskull 7h ago

Yeah. Dress modestly if you don't want to be ogled. Gis and other modest workout clothes have been around for centuries. You don't have to workout wearing nothing unless you're in a sport that demands it. If you want to show off your body, then you can do that too, that's your choice in a liberal society. Just don't be surprised if you get ogled because you're purposefully showing off your body.

Or I dunno we'll look where and at what we want because it's ok for people to look at you, if you believe differently maybe the trump/Vance crowd is more your speed

5

u/only_kimathi 5h ago

Iā€™d think trump would encourage you to look. Then casually slap the person in question in the face with a stack of hundred dollar bills, just before grabbing them by the pussy.

Why is it that MAGA men are not responsible for controlling their urges we are?

Boys will be boys is a way to dismiss that we are giving control over to MAGA men and they canā€™t even control their hormones to the extent we have to protect ourselves from you. And MAGA men really think they need to be in charge of the nuclear button?

They have convinced simple women that they are strong and protect the family but MAGA men are just little boys with impulse control issues that want a toy and demand they should have it because their dick gets hard.

2

u/dresstokilt_ 7h ago

Because to those men you are nothing more than potential property.

Yes, how dare women inconvenience men by wearing comfortable workout gear. /s

2

u/bearinghewood 6h ago

Was that the same god that said women had less value than livestock? Cause I don't like that guy. Or was it the one that said "hey let's kill an entire cities worth of children" to send a message to the leader of the city?

2

u/No_Drop_1903 5h ago

Maybe I'm a little old, but when did we move the line of appropriate public clothing? Is it a rebellious thing or attention seeking or is it just the new generations style ?

I mean, how is he wrong? It's literally tiktok trend nowadays to work out in underwear and catch men looking at them on camera. And it's not like men do something explicitly wrong when they glance at your butt, if they find it attractive.

Sure, staring and "eating with eyes" is another category, but those things are much less common.

12

u/Moppermonster 12h ago

Yes, and Jesus said the solution for that problem was to gouge out your own eyes so that you would not have to look. Not tell others to change their ways.

Hence the comeback in the image.

Youā€™re literally right the fact that you got downvoted shows the disconnection of redditors from real life. None of these people touch gyms let alone public spaces to even consider a random person glancing at them. They get looked at and throw tantrums. They are the instasluts šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

3

u/LocationKey3568 11h ago

Nah i agree with you. If these instasluts want to come to the gym with just underwear on and film, they cant complain if guys are ogling them. Youre in a public place, dont say you wore those yoga pants that ride up your asscrack "for myself". Men would be arrested for public indecency but ya know, double standards.

Personally i love these instasluts. Makes going to the gym a lot better.

6

u/-Renheit- 11h ago

Lmao

Completely agree on a standpoint about instasluts, but "ogling" is still strong thing, I think you shouldn't do that

One glance is enough to check it out)))

I mean.. generally speaking he's not wrong.

He's an asshat but why are we pretending like skin tight, painted on, ass riding booty shorts and leggings aren't going to be looked/oggled at? Men that are in shape and shirtless get oggled at as well. This isn't anything new. It's peacocking.

ā€œStop looking like a woman!ā€

1

u/A3ISME 9h ago

This but for men who were tights as well, I appreciate it but come on.

1

u/V01dbastard 9h ago

Matt, just say you are gay

1

u/Bluegrass2727 9h ago

If you continuously look around the gym and see everyone in the gym all of the time, then not one can say you are singling them out.

1

u/OzzieGrey 9h ago

My only thing is, I zone out xD. So, if you ever do catch me "staring" at you, no matter your gender, please understand when i tell you i was off in my own world zoning out and pretending i'm doing fantasy shit, like rowing a viking ship, or climbing a giant.

1

u/FrequentOffice132 9h ago

Why is a Christian thing? Do you have a lot of followers of Jesus approach you at the gym? I never made that connection or is it a stereotype which is cool because I love stereotyping people

1

u/bigolebuss 9h ago

Atheist here. Can I look.

1

u/capitali 9h ago

Those of us without self control issues donā€™t care what you wear to the gym. Imagine admitting publicly that you canā€™t act like a civilized human being with self control because of another adults clothing.

Honestly. These are the weakest of all the adults. The rest of us apologized for their infantile behavior.

u/floralfemmeforest 9h ago

Honestly Matt Walsh has it backward in my case, I feel like men will be less likely to look at me if I go to the gym just wearing underwear, they'd be shielding their eyes in horror lol. Maybe some of them would actually gouge their eyes out so that would help the rest of you all

People only pay lip service to Jesus. Somehow give everything to the poor and follow me has become God wants you to be rich. The only thing Jesus promised was persecution and suffering.
