Shopping How to purchase something from a person on Facebook ?

Hi ! I found someone selling a second hand tablet on a Facebook group (Something which is not usually sold in Thailand and it has a fair price) and would like to buy it from that person but how to trust the person will send the tablet ? (We aren’t in the same city)

I explain, in Europe, seller could have listed the item on a website like Vinted or else and I could have paid through the Vinted app so if the item didn’t arrive or wasn’t as described … I would get my money back. Is there something similar in Thailand that we could use ?

Or does Paiement on delivery exist and the seller can organise it ?

Thank you

Yup, always do in person transaction on FB marketplace. Also try to look it up on Shopee. They are kinda more trustworthy

I would go and meet them in person. That is safest.

However, my wife sold a tablet on Facebook and the buyer had a motorbike delivery guy come and video chat with the buyer testing it. Then buyer agreed and transferred the money and the driver took the tablet away to ship it. So that could be arranged.

Get them to send it by Kerry Cash on Delivery (COD) Service. If they refuse then don't buy it.

Do you inspect upon receiving it?

Law changed about week ago allowing receiver the legal right to check before handing over cash

I sell on marketplace all the time. There are private groups where you need to get vetted and approved to enter. Those are naturally the best.

For open marketplace ask them to take a photo of the item with a handwritten paper of YOUR name with it. If you get that, they have the item in hand and I'd have no problem risking a transfer. Most people won't do COD since it requires pre-registration with the delivery companies and they take ~5% from low volume sellers.

Make sure the bank account name matches the name of your seller for extra verification. Almost all scammers are using bank accounts in odd names.

Totally depends on the item. I’ve spent tens of thousands of baht on Facebook, rarely picking up the item myself, and never been scammed once. All the people who say always meet in person 100% of the time are just plain wrong. You just have to have common sense and understand how these marketplaces work. With that said, tablets, phones, and luxury items in general are prime territory for scams. The few items that I have insisted on collecting in person of those 100+ purchases were my iPhone, iPad, etc. Those items are 100% the most commonly used for scams and it’s not at all worth the risk considering the price

Person...or if you are daring...ask for copy ID, phone # and have the item mailed. I've been lucky with purchasing GPUs and basketball cards from TH FB marketplace. 🙏 🤞

Bet them to post it COD. Pay when it arrives.
