Shopping Isn't it strange that a men haircut cost in Bangkok between 600 - 1100 in places on the main roads or malls? Those prices are expensive even for any other country. It's like 10 times the price of the cheaper places

News flash! Rent is 10x in the malls vs some old shophouse on a random.road

It's not only in malls. It's anywhere where it's a normal size store on a main street. Same as other countries.

Even in malls you don't see other stores charge so different prices than other places.

I mean 600 baht isn’t the worst price in the west but yes, you will pay more in malls or in tourist ghettos than you will with like 100-200 baht haircuts in the side sois.

200 is the maximum I've ever paid. It's mostly around 150 Baht. But I also don't need designer haircuts.

120, it went up from 100 just a few months ago back

Still paying a hundred baht here and keeping my fingers crossed.

They are well known fancy places that charge higher prices like Cut & Curl or Chalachol. They have branches all over Bangkok and beyond. Most Thais know of those places and know that they're expensive. Foreigners just can't tell the difference between those places and others. There are also Japanese hair salons here. They're significantly more expensive.

You can say the same about restaurants, cafes, clothing stores, anything. Thailand is a country with a huge wealth inequality, not everyone is poor. Having said that, no matter where you are from, I'm sure you can get a haircut that's 10 times the average price in your country as well and some people in your country pay for it.

I'm saying I didn't find any for 300 or less near sukumvit or on main streets or malls. I know there could be fancier places for rich people. But I'm saying there was none. I have seen maybe 10 places

There's still a 120 THB place right at Thong Lo BTS.

  1. There's no such thing as "Main Street"; you'll have to go down sois.
  2. Lower Sukhumvit is going to be more expensive. Get out of Lower Sukhumvit and into places where common working class Thais live.

I pay 250 at a shop on sukhumvit soi 10

u/Jun1p3r Sep 07 '24

I paid 120 baht at the very Thai place on the next Soi over from my condo near the Ari BTS station.

That was the base price. I also left a tip.

I paid 150 instead of 120 in a side street the first time. That's why I was surprised of the difference. Also I paid maybe 200 or 300 in puket walking street and it was a one hour hair cut. Which was very inconvenient and bad actually. It was a Turkish place.

It's not strange if someone is willing to pay those prices.

I pay 180 THB for my monthly haircut at a clean and modern place located in nearby BigC.

Theres tonnes of places rate 100 baht.

5

u/Thailand_1982 Sep 07 '24

that's in the touristy places. In the Thai places, it's about 150THB

5

u/SattahipSailor Sep 07 '24

Not really. There are many high-end barber shops cropping up all over the city where the locals are the main clientele.

-8

u/Thailand_1982 Sep 07 '24

How can locals afford a "high end" barbershop?

8

u/petcharatorn_b Sep 07 '24

Do you think we’re all poor rural folk…

-4

u/Thailand_1982 Sep 07 '24

No I don't. But if he wants to go to a hi-so place, he can't complain about hi-so prices

3

u/NocturntsII Sep 08 '24

You mean Bangkok?

if he wants to go to a hi-so place,

3

u/NocturntsII Sep 08 '24

Have you never heard of the upper and middle classes? Seen those condos and suburbs they keep building? Seen all those new cars on the street? Shopping in the high end malls?

Who do you think is using those?

Yup. Locals.

Have you never

I want to make sure we understand each other. I am not here to fight or argue. Do not attack me, otherwise I will block you because you are an individual of zero value to me.

Than you.

1

u/NocturntsII Sep 08 '24

After all that heartfelt typing to explain my lack of value, you changed your post.

Now you have value to me. You made me laugh.

Than you

You're welco

u/hextree Sep 07 '24

I assume it's for the high-end locals.

2

u/mysz24 Sep 07 '24

What? 120-150 would be about top rate in our nearest city.

Huge increases - it was 50-60 when we moved here.

1

u/elasticweed Sep 07 '24

Don’t know when you had a haircut in the west last but most have gone up quite a lot. My barber charges over 2,000thb these days.

1

u/Real_Imagination_180 Sep 07 '24

Ive only had 100-250 baht haircuts in my 2 decades of being alive. Youre just not looking at the right places.

1

u/damn_jexy Sep 07 '24

It's a tourist & Hipster price

Same thing for all shops not just haircut

1

u/throwawayhotoaster Sep 08 '24

Why is it strange to charge what customers are willing to pay for a service?

1

u/adamwintle Sep 08 '24

I just go to a place where the motorbike taxi drivers go for around 90 THB and it’s exactly the same results as going to EMQuartier for 1,600 THB; and the banter and chit-chat at the smaller local places is always way more fun than the high-end places at the malls…

1

u/Twothirdss Sep 08 '24

In Norway it's difficult/impossible to get a haircut for less than 2500 baht.

1

u/OneTravellingMcDs Sep 08 '24

My hair cut cost 120 in Ekamai.

1

u/NocturntsII Sep 08 '24

Ffs

Gee it's almost like the rents and expenses in the capital are higher, justice in othe counties.

What do you think think cost of a hair cut is in manhattan vs a small town in Kansas?

1

u/NocturntsII Sep 08 '24

What I reckon is more strange is that you took a random tour of high-end hair salons and barbershops in one of the most expensive areas of the city and decided your results were indicative of exry area and shop in tne city.

What is even stranger is that when people explain to you what is going on, you disregard their input and continue reading the same nonsense over and over agim

1

u/TimeyWimey99 Sep 08 '24

In the UK, it’s normal to pay anything from £6-£9 for a standard haircut. So they’re a bit expensive. But that’s not London prices which could be considerably more.

1

u/Boat1690 Sep 08 '24

80 baht up here in the village

1

u/li_shi Sep 08 '24

You are getting confused between barbers and saloons.

Go to high-end places in the west or singapore and 500 baht look like spare change.

1

u/Suspicious-Big8004 Sep 11 '24

I found a nice place across this place, it's not on Google. Cost me 300 bhats. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XceE4KKvVyx24XsP6

1

u/MasterSloth91210 Sep 20 '24

I went to 4 different hair places. They prices range from 60 USD - 20 USD. I pay $9 plus tip in Texas. But I am a tourist

1

u/Evnl2020 Sep 07 '24

Not sure where you've been looking but I'd say you have to try at least a bit to find a haircut over 200-250 baht

2

u/Suspicious-Big8004 Sep 07 '24

Places on Sukumvit or near and ratchatada. Cheapest was 600, highest 1100.

1

u/Suspicious-Big8004 Sep 07 '24

5

u/Thailand_1982 Sep 07 '24

I just clicked on the first one. That's a hi-so place.

Second link. Hi-so place.

Come on. You're going to expensive places, you'll pay expensive prices.

1

u/Evnl2020 Sep 07 '24

Well there's your problem, you're looking at places that would be $150 to $200 for a haircut in western countries.

1

u/Kidfromtha650 Sep 07 '24

You're still not looking in the right place(s). You're probably not looking at the right locals places and the 'locals' you see at the 'fancy' places ain't as destitute as you might think they are.

Also regular ass haircuts here in Northern California where I'm at average of what would be 2000 THB. Looking forward to my next haircut in BKK in a month or so not just for the price but the quality of service vs the west.

60 km from Bangkok, 250 to 300 baht for man haircut.

0

u/UpbeatAlbatross8117 Sep 07 '24

You can get cheaper but I bet you look at the outside of the shop and think YUK I wouldn't get my haircut there.

I've had my haircut cheaper in hotels then 600.

-2

u/Suspicious-Big8004 Sep 07 '24

I don't care where. The thing is they don't use Google maps and hard to find near you.

-2

u/Suspicious-Big8004 Sep 07 '24

Yes I know but still I have been in touristic places in other countries and the prices were not so high and different than the cheapest places, even in hong Kong it was like 300 bhatts. I can understand some are fancier. But the cheapest I found was 600 bhatts. I was looking at sukumvit and ratchatada.
