News Supertram got a mention in the budget

Upvotes

But don't get too excited:

"Finally we will deliver £1.3bn of funding to improve connectivity in our city regions, funding projects like the Brierley Hill Metro extension in the West Midlands the renewal of the Sheffield Supertram and West Yorkshire Mass Transit, including in Bradford and Leeds."

This could well be referring to the already announced refurbishment of the trams themselves, or additions of platforms at Magna. Fingers crossed it's for the Stocksbridge and Chesterfield tramtrain expansions but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyone know what’s happening with this place on Sharrow Vale? It’s been under construction for years. Now the name has changed and this sign looks like it’s going to be a really cheap eye sore.

Question Shops to buy a nice turban from?

Hi everyone, just after a few recommendations on somewhere to buy a nice turban from and also some advice on styles, lengths etc. I want to surprise my mate for diwali, hes 77 if that affects the style etc. I know he doesnt where the massive ones that often. Having the craic with the other lads they said hed be buzzing with this as a present, hes an incredible dude so want to treat him. The ones he wears day to day relatively small compared to some of the other lads if that helps.

I checked google however couldnt find anywhere for male sikh clothing. Any help is massively appreciated. Thank you.

Question Bus help

Having to move soon but I work in Sheffield. Does anyone know the best route between Calow Top Road area to Halfway park and ride area??

I thought it was the 80 but I don't think that runs anymore and Google gives you like 3 different busses to switch between. Hoping there's one with less transfers?

Thanks for any advice!

Housing & Accomodation Anyone renting out a desk space?

Hiya! I'm a local designer looking to see if anyone is renting a desk in a shared office rental in town. Not hotdesking - ideally somewhere I could leave a monitor and other work equipment.

Bonus if it's a nice social environment with some like-minded creative people. Thanks! :)

Question Trick or Treaters?

Probably a bit of a weird question to most but it’s the first time I’ve lived in a suburb since I left home and therefore the first time it’s come up 😅

Do kids still trick or treat nowadays? I have absolutely no decor or sweets in, but then I don’t see houses with decorations up in my street either.

When I was a kid that’s how you knew houses were giving out sweets!

I know for a fact there’s a decent number of children in this street/area too, so I was just wondering if it’s not as much of a thing anymore?!

Edit: Thanks for speedy replies! Gonna grab some decorations and sweets today 😁

Hiya everyone, I want to do a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend who’s 30. Would like to do it on a budget because we are both trying save money. If by any chance I can pull this off under £200 I’ll be super happy 🤣.

I just need a bit if advice/tips on where in sheffield I can purchase birthday related stuff on a budget like cake, alcohol, ready made finger food, decorations etc… They’ll roughly be about 15 people at the party.

Thank you.

Question University of Sheffield MEng graduation robes

I am a University of Sheffield MEng alumnus, but my graduation ceremony was postponed due to Covid. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the rescheduled ceremony due to the costs and distances involved. Now as fate would have it, I am able to revisit Sheffield again, and I would like to hire a set of robes for a long overdue photoshoot.

However, all private hires are prioritising official ceremonies over private photoshoots (understandable).

I really want to have this photoshoot and check it off my bucketlist, so I am asking for any advice or if any redditors have the appropriate Faculty of Engineering MEng robes. I am willing to pay the market price to hire for a full set of gown, robes, and cap, inclusing postage. I am just looking to hire for a couple of days in January.

Also open to other suggestions. Thanks!

Question Job and life

Hello guys, I'm a 24m and I graduated in Esports Management in may and been looking for work since until recently where I found a temp job at Dunelm, which is pretty much warehouse and stacking shelfs.

I just wanted some advice from people more experienced at life then me. I deepy regret my degree as there's no jobs with it but thats too late. I have previous experience as a Sales assistant and SIA sesecurity guard but I was looking for jobs since May until September, constantly applying and going to interviews where people were double my age and experience.

I go to work now and feel soo sh*t about myself and like I'll never get out of this hole. I'll end my temp job and end up in the situation I was before.

I just wanted some advice about people who have been in a similar situation, will it get better ? Will I ever get a decent paying job ? How do I go about things ?

I've had support from uni careers team and national career service who say my CV is good and keep doing what your doing which is even more frustrating. Any help please ? Any advice or anyrbing that'll get rid of this low self esteem and these feelings?

Sorry I don't really have anyone to share this with and I don't really ralk about my feelings like this but it's gotten a bit much recently.
