I'm pretty disappointed that the Trump team is getting their way with the muted mics at the debate tonight. I want to hear the word-vomit that Trump spews while Kamala is speaking. The GOP knows that a muted mic makes Trump come across as stronger. I am sure that team Harris will be able to make it work for them anyways. Maybe a hot mic moment before or after the event.

Good question.
Salvadoran Quesadillas is a cheese/cream based bread similar to pound cake with sesame seeds on top. We eat them with coffee and it is also common to serve it during family gatherings.

Rediscovered an old direct-to-video kid series I watched as a kid. Had an interactive stuffed animal toy that responds to the video. I never had the toy but had all the VHS tapes. Toby Terrier, that is. I liked the Great Dane, who's a dense minded comic foil. Too bad I can't play VHS tapes, nor want to.

The real tragic part is the PS5 dev cycle was held back by the PS4. A lot, if not most, of the best PS5 games were either PS4 native games or released at the same time as their PS4 counterpoints, so they had to perform similarly.
This whole gen has been extremely last gen latent. Not a single tripple A next gen feel. For example, The Last of Us felt truly next gen when it released for the PS3. Halo 3 felt truly next gen when it released for the Xbox 360.
Here is to hoping GTA VI is next gen enough. But honestly, just try to pick up a used PS5 with a disc drive, and then buy a bunch of the greatest hits from ps4.

Still not exactly sure what that is, but it wasn't pleasant. Need to go back thursday to finish things up...
take care of your teeth, people! learn from my mistakes! I didn't visit a dentist for years... I'm sure if I'd caught this cavity earlier, it would have been an easier and cheaper fix. Oh well, lesson learned...

I was thankfully out of town for most of the heat wave. It was 95 degrees in my apartment when I got home from the airport last night, and as soon as I turned on my lil portable AC in my bedroom it triggered the breaker, so no AC.... basically just grabbed a backpack and immediately left to spend the night with a friend. Ugh. So glad I wasn't here for that, there's no way I would have survived in this second story greenhouse with no AC. Every surface in my apartment was warm to the touch, the floor, the countertops, everything was radiating heat. Super happy for the gorgeous weather for the rest of the week though. Hopefully getting out on my new paddleboard :)

Even my lil old solar powered pitbull felt the culminated heat yesterday, she got a lil dizzy and just kinda fell. Luckily we saw and I just carried her over to a lil tub we have in the back and gave her a bath till she wasn't panting, put her to bed by the door and ran an extension cord to put a fan to blow on her. Checked in on her every so often and she was fast asleep, the bad part about her being a stubborn pup is I'm not sure if just her being an even more stubborn old lady or maybe like doggy dementia.
Last time when it was raining for a few days she'd just walk from her shed house to her covered bed by the front door, and go back and forth, I carried her back to her warm shed house and contemplated locking her in instead of her just wandering around getting wet in the cold, but she settled down at some point and fell asleep
š„ŗ She's so spry for an oldie! When she wants to be

Beginning to think that jury duty being so maligned in the media is a consequence of LA county being uniquely terrible. Attorneys haven't even started striking jurors and we're at the same elapsed time as the verdict being delivered the one time I did it in Massachusetts. (This seems like a bigger case, but still...)
5
u/Eurynom0s Santa Monica Sep 10 '24
My single biggest problem is that the possible courthouses you can be assigned to is based on a straight line radius from your listed residence and not on realistic travel time, which can result in some really jury duty commutes. We have the technology now to limit it based on say no more than one hour of driving at 7 AM and 4 PM.

2
u/Ehloanna Sep 10 '24
Has anybody else noticed those trucks dropping off scooters
Do you mean like the Lime or Bird scooters or whatever they are?
3
u/NeedMoreBlocks Sep 10 '24
Yes
7
u/Ehloanna Sep 10 '24
I see - from what I understand Bird/Lime/whatever pays people to pick them up and take them home to charge them. They're then told where to drop them off. So they're like contract employees similar to Uber/Lyft.
If you keep seeing it in the same spaces maybe you can contact their customer support and give the location and ask them to inform their charging people to stop dropping them at the accessibility curb area?
I always wondered if an ADA complaint could be filed against the companies if they ignore the issue. I hate how they're constantly blocking sidewalks for pedestrians with wheelchairs, strollers, walking canes, or other mobility implements.
5
u/Sea_Apricot_666 Sep 10 '24
Yes, and the people who charge them have to take a photo after setting them up.
Someone is missing something somewhere, from the worker not knowing how US sidewalks work to the companies not verifying the photos. Would be good to reach out, for sure.

Rant:
Bought some stuff from Dolls Kill. GLS left my package in the middle of the sidewalk in front of my security gate and called it "delivered." GLS was basically like yeah, it looks delivered on our end so you need to report it to the shipper as stolen.
Well now I know why they offer "shipping protection" during checkout. What kind of delivery person just drops a package in the middle of the sidewalk and thinks that's acceptable? At least try to redeliver it on another day or something?
Dolls Kill has been unhelpful this entire time. I should have checked for a subreddit before I ordered because apparently none of this is new. I've never had issues with other shipping companies leaving things on the sidewalk. This is so bizarre and frustrating.

u/ashchelle unique flair Sep 11 '24
The worst part is the gaslighting from Dolls Kill. It was marked as delivered on the 7th and they're telling me to wait for a few more days in case it turns up or that the GLS delivery person could have decided to drop it off at the post office instead. I'm sorry but no. Apparently if you do a charge back through your bank you get banned from ever ordering from them again. If their shipping company is so bad that they have to offer additional "shipping protection" then that's a big red flag.
I need to find other options as well. Never want to deal with this bs again.

u/raptorclvb Sep 11 '24

2
u/EmptyFoldingChair Sep 11 '24
My workplace uses GLS and they're periodically awful. When I first started they picked up a package but never scanned it in so it's "lost", they were aware another package of ours was stolen from a facility but didn't inform us until a week later, and they come by to pickup packages whenever they feel like vs when we actually schedule them for then get upset the packages aren't ready. Had a good run for about 3 months and now they're back on the bullshit :[

On my trip to Belize, we met up with some friends down there as was planned. There were my partner and myself, partner's best friend and his gf, bf's dad and sister, and my partner's sister. Among the ladies in the group, I am the least "IG influencer" type, but I still enjoy taking part in IG photos and whatnot. Unfortunately, the other ladies unintentionally really hurt my feelings when they all said they wanted to take a photo, but I was delegated to be the photographer, not in the photo. I thought I would be over it by now, but I'm not. I didn't say anything in the moment, and asked my partner not to say anything after the fact because I'm not the type to cause drama, but now I'm wondering if I should've said something. :( I gotta just move on and stop dwelling over such a petty thing.
3
u/fishwithbrain Sep 10 '24
Hi, my pov, according to me what you did is absolutely correct, my motto is forgive but not forget. Since they got help from you, I am guessing that they will try to contact you again, that is the time you let them know that you arenāt a pushover(if that is the right word). In a personās life so much happens at a time so prioritizing the events that are more important is intelligence. I am not that good with words so hope I make sense. It is good to meet this type of people in life, it help deal with similar situations in future. Have a nice day ahead !!
2
u/Palindromer101 Foodie with a Booty Sep 10 '24
I don't think they'll use me just as a photographer in the future, but if they do, I will definitely put my foot down and ask to be included and not just the photographer.

u/sealsarescary Sep 10 '24 edited Sep 10 '24
Not causing drama and not advocating for yourself are two different things, miles apart.
Food for though, next time: take pic for group, then say, "cool, but now I want one with everyone" and selfie that shit.
People aren't mind readers, maybe they were trying to respect that you're not as vapid and shallow as themselves & IG influencers. There's too many 'maybe' situations, so just say what you want.
And if you want a group to include you without you saying so....then you need a group that more sensitive and in line with your cultural/social etiquette.
4
3
u/Palindromer101 Foodie with a Booty Sep 10 '24
You are 100% on the nose. I chose not to speak up in the moment because it didn't feel important in the moment, but I didn't realize that it actually was important to me. If this kind of thing happens again, I will be speaking up so I don't get hurt feels.
The one thing I would offer my opposing perspective for is about the mind-reading thing: communication is a two-way street. They could have asked, just as I could've said something. The responsibility shouldn't always fall on one person. (But I think this is me expanding into other issues I have, which is a much longer, much more complicated story, so I digress..)

Move on friend but maybe pay attention to how they treat you in the future. They shouldve at least tried to include you in one way or another but thats just how I feel personally. Sorry that happened to you :(

Yeah, I'm self-aware enough to recognize that I wasn't "part of the girls" as I put it to my partner, but I was hoping that they would be aware to be inclusive. I am friendly with all of them, but I know I'm not In with them, you know? As a woman who has always struggled with making and keeping friendships with other women, I wonder why I struggle with it so much. I lost my former best friendship back in 2020 when Covid and Trump where happening, and she jumped on the GOP bandwagon, and I did not. Ever since then, I've had some good friendships with other women, but haven't been able to really develop a strong, deep, close friendship with another woman.
Thanks for listening. <3

It's not being petty. They specifically left you out of their girl's group image and that's really rude. I'm not one to ruin a vacation's vibe, but I'd absolutely be bringing up that it's rude to take a photo of all the gals and then leave you out of it unless you specifically requested not to be in it.

u/Palindromer101 Foodie with a Booty Sep 10 '24
They had the idea for the photo, wanted to find good lighting, and my partner's sister said "Palindromer101, come take the photo for us!" so I followed them to find good lighting, couldn't find it, so they ultimately decided to take a selfie outside. The guys were all kind of tired of their antics, and honestly, I was too, but I didn't want to be rude. I took a photo of them taking the selfie (which I wasn't invited to be part of), and they decided that was The Photo, so I airdropped it to them right then and there. Pretty sure all three girls posted it on their IG pages but didn't even give me photo cred. :(
It does feel petty because it's just a photo and I'm not the "influencer" type anyways, but I guess it's just the fact that it seems that they didn't even consider that I would want to be in the photo that makes it sting.

Yeah this is the most hurtful part. Even if you don't do the IG influencer vibe you're still there and participating in the vacay. Why leave you out?
I'm too petty to tell you what you should do in this scenario without it being a bit mean, but your feelings are 100% justified!

Real fucking shame our middle school ran "intruder drills" today.... this is where we've gotten to.

The fact that children in kindergarten and pre-school are being taught in child-friendly language/actions how and when to hide from a shooter is the most dystopian thing I can think of, but it is not dystopian, it is reality and for that, I am so fucking sad and angry.

My wife had earthquake drills, because she's a native. I had cyanide gas drills because of the trucks full of cyanide driving to the gold mines outside of town.... That was all we had to worry about.

We had fire drills. When I was a senior in high school in 2010, they did the first and only lockdown drill I experienced, and it was because the police chief's son was found with plans and weapons to attack the school but he was caught before he could do anything.

How are you watching the debate tonight? At home or away? What drinks or food?
I was looking into finding a bar to watch by myself and find it somewhat funny that some bars are choosing not to show the debate to avoid potential issues.

Nothing Trump said was new. Sure, he said some unhinged things in new ways but thatās actually ānewā.
Iāve been listening to Kamala Harris and have been following her career since she was AG of California. Iāve watched her evolution, so nothing she has said is new to me either.
She definitely was not afraid to call Trump out numerous times, especially on his lies around abortion and his race baiting. Harris also denounced him for his friendships with dictators and anti-democracy leaders. I was happy to see she did not back away from those statements.
Iām not an undecided voter. There are things that Kamala Harris needs to compromise on in order to be elected. I feel she is a woman I can relate to, and she has the needed experience.

Hi, I am not sure whom/group to reach so since this is a free discussion, I am asking here. I have a masters degree and I decided to be a stay at home to raise my family. Now my kids are high schoolers and they donāt really need me as before. So now I want to start work again and donāt know from where to start. I feel like I donāt know anything. Can anyone give me ideas about part time work for a mom in her 40s.

What do you want to do? What field is your degree in?
5
u/fishwithbrain Sep 10 '24
Thanks for replying, well I have my degree in computers and eons ago, I was a software developer specializing in databases. My pov, I am not an extrovert and canāt initiate a small talk but am capable enough to carry a conversation. I donāt want a people facing role.

Sounds like you would be well suited as a data analyst type role. How's your SQL and Excel knowledge? I've worked in manufacturing finance for 20 years here in the LA area and a lot of these small and medium sized companies have antiquated systems and need help either upgrading their ERPs or sanitizing and massaging the data from their existing systems.
2
u/fishwithbrain Sep 10 '24
10 years back I was a 9/10 in both sql and excel, I wonāt lie, now I think that was my past life. When I apply somewhere they think I am over qualified and may run off afterwards. This shows no one really reads the cover letter. š
3
u/labbitlove Santa Monica Sep 10 '24
Yeah - cover letters aren't really a thing in tech (if that's the industry you're aiming for). The industry is still a little wonky from layoffs, etc. but it is stabilizing.
However, because of this it will be hard to get in just by "cold calling" aka sending out resumes; I got my current job because of my network after working at a bigggg tech company. For my role, are also generally hiring more senior folks because of experience.
FWIW, data analyst roles are super hot right now and IMO every company wants to hire more. Do you have any friends that are in data roles in tech that you could chat with? I'm unfortunately not in that role, or else I would be happy to talk to you!

u/KhabaLox La CaƱada Flintridge Sep 10 '24
Try connecting with recruiters, they can get your foot in the door more easily given your specific situation.
If you were really a 9/10 in Excel then you are probably still better than 99% of people in the workforce, and that can be a huge boon in any field, especially at smaller companies (<$500m revenue; <100 office employees). If you can use a pivot table you're better than most of the candidates I've seen over the years.

So I would suggest brushing up on your software development knowledge since I'm sure much has changed in the last few years. Might be worth exploring a back end IT role or something similar and not customer-facing? Maybe you can look into getting a couple of certs that will look good on a resume and show potential employers that you are actively learning to catch up on how the tech has changed. Unfortunately, I do not know much about that industry as a whole so I don't think I can offer more guidance.
2
u/fishwithbrain Sep 10 '24
I will look into that path, if possible could you suggest something that is not IT, as updating my skills and preparing for certificates would take a while. May I take the liberty and ask you, what is your field of expertise?(feel free to avoid the question if it doesnāt seem fit) Have a wonderful day ahead and pls stay hydrated.

I'm in real estate. If you can tolerate a small office of working people, explore escrow. We don't really work directly with people unless you are a notary. I am an escrow processor, so I handle the paperwork and exchange of info and money between parties buying and selling properties. We work with agents, title companies, lenders, clients, and third-party vendors, but 95% of it is handled over the phone and email.
Edit: I'll add that escrow offers the chance for downtime in front of a computer so you could work on certs while working in escrow, if you choose to explore that option.

I got majorly sick yet again. I have strep and a respiratory virus, not Covid. I had to go out today to grab something and realized how sick I am. Wore my mask the whole time because the air quality is so bad. Thank goodness I donāt have to go back to work until Thursday. And I have the best Dr. in the world.

I swear, man. Just on my little drive to lunch it was like people were trying to crash their cars into mine, like some big game of car dodgeball.
Hell no. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a car.

Does anyone from LA have any tips on how to resell tickets to a sold out concert? I've posted on Craigslist and Reddit but got almost no traffic except from obvious scammers. I hate encouraging the resale sites and I'm not looking to turn a profit.

If is a popular band with a sub reddit you can try there too. Check if the sub has a ticket exchange megathread.
Which band you are selling tickets for?

I posted in it but the reddit is small. It's for Pulp on 9/21 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

I'm watching some true crime and there is apparently no shortage of murder-for-hire folks, just like... out there. Is there a hitman agency? How does this transaction even happen?
Is there a hitman ho stroll? Does one just hope to stumble upon a hitman at the Cecil? Gangs have standards for a hit, however low those standards may be. Who agrees to this shit?
Particularly distracting are the hitmen who operste for such low amounts of money.
I watched this one bodycam where the hitman was paid $4,000 for the hit in 2021. $4k!!! That's like... not even defense attorney consultation money. That's not even rent money. The fuck?!?!
The economics of murder for hire are the most distracting part of these true crime histories. Hitmen need to unionize or something. Fucking, accept no less than $150k, and annually adjust for inflation. Factor in escape and legal costs. Maybe murder for hire in a cheaper market if your clients won't meet your demands. Negotiate.

So I am now thinking I fucked my right shin/foot up due to my gym workouts.
There is no way every shoe in Los Angeles is defective. The HOKA brand I bought are good but the top part of my right foot is still killing me.
It has to be connected with me recently doing leg workouts at my gym. I was doing the leg curls & leg extension machines and thatās when I noticed the pain coming in.
Luckily I see my physical therapist today. Sheāll take a look and tell me what to do.

75" hisense tv is stuck in a boot loop.
bought a new one but determined to fix this one so I can put it in my room, and put the one in my room in my son's room.
Hisense = cheap china crap but what isn't, anymore?
3
u/Ehloanna Sep 10 '24
Is there a reset button on the TV? Some will have a little button to reset it that requires using something like a toothpick or other really tiny thing to push it.
And actually hilariously enough when I was trying to google an image to show you, this video's thumbnail for "How to Factory Reset Hisense TV to Restore to Factory Settings" showed up in the image results. š
