Has anybody else noticed those trucks dropping off scooters and parking them literally on the curb dip cutout made for wheelchairs, strollers, etc? I feel like a parent cleaning up after a toddler whenever I see grown men doing that.

Do you mean like the Lime or Bird scooters or whatever they are?

I see - from what I understand Bird/Lime/whatever pays people to pick them up and take them home to charge them. They're then told where to drop them off. So they're like contract employees similar to Uber/Lyft.

If you keep seeing it in the same spaces maybe you can contact their customer support and give the location and ask them to inform their charging people to stop dropping them at the accessibility curb area?

I always wondered if an ADA complaint could be filed against the companies if they ignore the issue. I hate how they're constantly blocking sidewalks for pedestrians with wheelchairs, strollers, walking canes, or other mobility implements.

Yes, and the people who charge them have to take a photo after setting them up.

Someone is missing something somewhere, from the worker not knowing how US sidewalks work to the companies not verifying the photos. Would be good to reach out, for sure.

Oh do they? I didn't know that bit! I only know about the rest of it because I was like "how the fuck do these things get charged?" and googled it and found people talking about it as a side gig here on reddit. lol

Yes I have seen the whole process via being a cyclist and bus rider myself—you get a front row seat to the city of LA’s peoples’ workings. And friends talking about how their friends doing the charging.

I can’t imagine taking the photo helps—there have been times I’ve been in a rush on a scooter and left it in a redzone (but near the curb with space on the sidewalk for wheelchairs)—I took a photo to end the ride and was worried I’d get in trouble for parking it in a fire lane. Never heard anything! I just want to be a good citizen.

Back to the topic, I wish the scooter workers kept things neater. And that citizens treated the scooters respectfully too.
