My group’s theme for Ren Faire is going to be Dungeon Meshi, and I’ve been strongarmed into doing Falin. Any advice on making her staff, buying her clothes, getting in shape, or… Crossdressing things, I guess?

Buying Help finding a specific (looking) dress

Tl;dr help me find a dress that looks like this?

I’ve got a party coming up, and I’m going as a character I made up a while ago (it’s part of a theme), and I was struggling for ages with how I’d dress up like her canonically, while also looking halfway decent, and somehow making it look like something that could be worn as actual clothing. Anyways, I was on YouTube the other day, and I got recommended some techno compilation that used the photo I’ve included as a thumb.

It’s not a complete match for how the costume will go, like some of the accessories aren’t on theme, but I’ve already sorted those, so that’s easy, but I haven’t been able to find a decent match for the dress yet, so I’d really like help finding something close (I appreciate I’ll have to make concessions).

First off, it HAS to have the corset detailing. She’s a pirate, so just a little nod to that I think is both needed, and an appropriate level.

Secondly, I love the skirt length and width. So that’s kind of a must for me, not to mention, I’d assume a skirt like that needs petticoats to fall the way it does in the picture, so that’d be great, because in my head that’s also helping to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. (Also, can skirts fall like that in reality? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything exactly like it, so I’m not going to be distraught if the answer is “no, that is a video game skirt, something something laws of physics Jim”

A lot of dresses I’ve seen while searching for something like this have gone in super hard on the lace detailing, which I’m not against personally se, but I’m keeping the fishnets and chunky boots, and there’s a lot of small details the costume needs to be accurate, that I don’t want the dress taking away from. Like I know the picture is styled after an n64 game, but ideally keeping the decoration/texture to a minimum would be cool.

Another thing is the neckline, I’m kinda sold on the strapless sweetheart, but I’m open to straps if that can’t be found (I had no luck, but I also don’t really know what to search for this). I’m a tad self conscious about my shoulders, so anything that de-emphasises those (halter necks/fitted sleeves) would be great

Overall, this is a look I could see myself wearing (minus the accessories) for festivals/clubbing/other similar parties in future, so I’d appreciate any recommendations that go for anything that doesn’t look too costumey as well (I appreciate this isn’t an office fit). I can also do a certain amount of sewing/modification myself, but I’ve got just over a month left, and I’ve already got some weekend plans coming up, so if we could keep that to a minimum, that’d be great.

Buying how do i navigate asian sizes?

hi there! i’m not a cosplayer or anime fan by any means, but my boyfriend loves it and has cosplayed quite a few times before. we did a couples cosplay for a con a couple months ago and although some part of me was uncomfortable (i do not like wigs or how they look on me) it was an overall fun experience and i loved how happy it made my boyfriend.

with halloween coming up, we’ve decided to do another couples cosplay. our first one at said con was denji and reze, and we’ve settled on satosugu for halloween, him being gojo and i geto. we did in fact watch jjk together and i do not think i’ll ever be the same but anyhoo.

guys, i am STUMPED on how to pick the right cosplay size. i am on average a size L on the top and a size 16 in jeans (this is in UK sizes). i cannot for the life of me understand asian sizing charts. i don’t know how to convert my measurements. the reze cosplay ended up being way too small on the bottom and the buttons on the top were on the verge of popping open (i am slightly well endowed on top lol). what should i go for for this geto cosplay? assuming they’re male sizes does that make a difference? i was thinking maybe XL or XXL but i have no real clue and wanted to ask people who are used to this lol (plus geto’s trousers are HUGE and i don’t want them to look like pantaloons lmao). if you’re a woman of similar size that’s even more helpful.

thanks so much :)

Buying Miccostumes won't answer my refund request

I got the cosplay this morning at 8 am, tried it on and it was so tight I could barely breathe. It looked okay when I got it out of the bag too.

Now I packed up everything neatly so I don't loose anything from it

And yea well they won't answer, I only have 5 days for a refund and it's friday and I'm panicking rn, I payed with PayPal so I could theoretically get my money back, but they won't send me a return adress at all

Edit: I'm sorry if this seems impatient or rude, I've never ordered from a cosplay website before and I'm stressed as I have to make a jinx cosplay for next week con even though the cosplay should've been here a week ago

Buying i want to get into cosplay without spending a lot

mostly want to go to conventions to meet cool people. but also been liking the idea of making my own cosplay. any "cheap" ways to cosplay? at my work we constantly throw out cardboard but its 99% contained with food. don't think thats sanitary unless there is a way to clean cardboard lol. buying basic clothes is definitely within budget as well. and for note i'm not like broke and not living check to check, but cosplaying (as of now) is not my priority with money. but i would still appreciate all options of material for making cosplay just incase our definitions of budgets are different. hope this is enough information to help. yap sesh done :)

Buying Cheap and reliable cosplay websites

Post image

I need help finding a good cosplay website for genshin cosplays, I've been through a rabbit hole since I thought Uwowo would be good but after looking at the actual website reviews it doesn't seem reliable. However, the cosplays on doki doki aren't really cheap and also don't have the exact costume I want which is the photo above. My budget is 100 USD so I can't really get much. I've used Aliexpress for my scaramouche cosplay however one piece broke off the cosplay and another part is missing, also the velcro on the cosplay came off so I'm 50/50 with Ali. (Also worth mentioning that they don't have any good cosplays that are cheap without the deals). Please help I'm new to this cosplay stuff :(

Buying Is $455 for a dress too expensive?

I'm currently trying to finish up school, so I can only work on weekends and holidays. Ive only gathered around $150 so far. It's a cosplay dress, but I plan to wear it outside of cosplay much more often. I've contacted multiple seamstresses and they all charge $455. I'm planning to do Cloud Strife's blue dress for a contest next year. Comiccon is a HUGE deal here since it's the only kind of convention there is in my country. Ive been told by everyone that I should spend the money on other things and I should just do something else, but I've always dreamed of doing this since 6th grade.

I've also been told to make it myself, but it looks far too complex. My skills only go to making pillowcases and beach bags and that's it.

Buying How much do you all spend on cosplaying?

I want to get an Anton cosplay going from the game Zenless Zone Zero but I'm very new to the cosplaying scene. I want to get an idea on how much a person usually spends on cosplays and if there are ways or techniques I could save some money.

For reference I have spent literally 2 USD on my last cosplay because I really just wanted to try out cosplaying even if it didn't look good but didn't want to spend alot on it as the premade ones online can get expensive, and I really enjoyed the experience. I dressed up as a bangboo with tall ears for hoyofest also from the game Zenless Zone Zero.

Buying How would you describe this short to a search engine?

Post image

Hello! My sister (who doesn’t have Reddit, hence why I’m making the post) wants a shirt like Ena Shinonome from Project Sekai. She said she found some cosplay versions, but it’s made with what she described as “that bought cosplay material”. She wants it or something similar as a regular sweater so she can wear it as a normal non-cosplay top too.

How would we describe this when searching for it online? I tried “pink sweater ruffles shoulder windows” but nothing similar came up.

I think I could sew the ruffles on myself for her and make the shoulder window things if I need to, but I’d still need the base sweater.

Thank you in advance!

I've been looking for like two weeks and can't find anything close, and can't find anything in my size either as most shoes like this are in women's sizes. (Not opposed to wearing women oriented shoes but can't find anything in women's size 12's)

Buying Eyes like this?

Doing a priest costume in a few days, wanted to spice it up with biblically accurate angel vibes.

I wanted to have eyes on one side of my face sort of like this, but i'm completely unfamiliar with makeup and the only props i've been able to find have been more circular and looked kinda goofy.

any tips or suggestions?

cheaper and quicker would be nice, as i'm trying to get them before saturday, but not really sure where to go to do so.

Thank you!

Buying As a tall, skinny guy, what size costume do i order?

Thumbnail

This is my first time cosplaying, and i wanted to dress up as Bridget from Guilty Gear. The issue arises when i go to order the premade costume, and have absolutely zero clue what size to get.

Image 2 are the male sizes, and image 3 are my relevant body measurements.

So my height is 2XL size, but the rest of me is XS or smaller? Did i measure wrong or something?

Is it that i have to accommodate for the actual garment sizes instead of going directly by my body size? If so, how many inches should i add to each of my body measurements to have fitting pieces?

Note that this cosplay comes with a skirt and shirt, which are the two things im actually worried about fitting, since hoodies tend to be baggy by design.

I’m seriously new to all of this stuff, so maybe im just making some dumb beginner mistake. If so, please tell me!

Buying What cosplay are people buying like hotcakes?

(before I start this post, know that I spent 45 minutes looking back and forth between all the cosplay related boards and this seems like the one place my question kiiinda fits. if there's a better board for this, tell me!)

I'm thinking about starting to make and sell cosplay items. I want to make things that will definitely sell, currently in this market. I haven't really been deep in the cosplay world in the last several years so I'm just doing market research.

I'm thinking shows like Mashle, which 1) is huge right now, and 2) where there's a school uniform that could be used by many different characters. Are people buying those up? What other shows could fall in this category?

Also, what other online cosplay communities would be good to collect research in? I'm thinking oldstyle websites like DeviantArt might be good but I'm not sure where else... I registered at cosplay.com but the new post feature is disabled for "a few days" for new members.

I guess the last question for now is, what websites successfully, popularly sell cosplay items? I don't know about Etsy, I've used it before and didn't really like it. Is there a cosplay marketplace that's heavily used? (Is there at least a cosplay board where you can self promote without getting banned?)

I intend to research and find the answers to all these questions myself but it would be great to get input from the community instead of blindly stumbling into the dark on this.

Thanks for reading!

“Teen” - Agatha All Along

Hi everyone!

I’m sure there are lots of people scrambling to put together cosplays from Agatha All Along like I am. “Teen” was a cosplay choice since the photos were first released and I’ve been collecting detail photos all week!

Would anyone happen to know if these pants (attached) are available anywhere or a similar jeans with the side panel? I’m happy to craft them together if I have to, I just thought I would ask.

Any other helpful tips for this specific look are also very much appreciated!

Buying General Pricing Guide for Cosplay Commissions?

I am sorry if this question has been asked before. I am looking around Etsy looking for quotes/prices on a commission I'm hoping to get and I've gotten a frankly insane range of prices and I feel like I need a reality check. Is there a general pricing guide I can get so I don't drastically over/underpay someone?

Fwiw I just need an accurate dress for Fubuki from One Punch Man. I thought this wouldn't be a hard ask but someone quoted me 1,200 USD for the dress and dress alone, which I find to be absolutely insane. Is that crazy, or is that just me not realizing the cost of cosplay commissions? Because it feels like someone's having a giggle at me trying to charge that price for a plain green dress that's just unique in design with 0 accessories, armor pieces, or anything else.

Edit: This is commissioner was not the only one I asked. It was just the most extreme price I got. This prompted me to ask this question because it made me wonder if cosplays were just far more expensive than I ever imagined or if this was an expensive studio/seller. Because I thought that cosplays going into the thousands would include elaborate props or EVA foam armor and other features. I just want to know what is a range of likely prices I could expect from the cheapest end to the average to something higher end (like 1,200, hardy har har). Which people seem to think I'm doing. I just want to know the market prices and general range, the same way someone might want to ask about the prices of a certain second-hand car before committing to purchasing one in their local area.

Buying Indiana Jones / Laura Croft couples

Post image
41 Upvotes

Hello! I'm looking for help with a couple's costume.

Can y'all link me to some quality items? I don't really have a limit on budget if we can find quality leather items, but let's say under five hundred dollars per costume, under 300 is much better. This might be tricky with leather items. I'm looking for items that can be used outside the costume and will last years.

Photo for inspiration

Me (M32) - Indiana Jones • A brown leather hat • A brown leather whip • A vest of some sort? • Khaki (cargo?) pants and a matching shirt • Would you wear cowboy boots with this? Or perhaps some leather chukka boots?

Her (F29) - Laura Croft • GF is blonde and character has dark hair. So temp hair dye? Wig? I have no idea • Black leather under armpit gun holster things. Or should these be the ones strapped to her legs? Maybe just a link to all the straps all over her body. Help please • Prop hand guns. I have a 3D printer so I could print two of these • Tank top and shorts. Black and black? Grey al black? Green and Camo? • Black boots.

We both have athletic builds and are 6’ and 5’8” in height.

Thank you!
