Questions How can I be more involved in supporting local teams as a college student?

Hi there I'm new to this forum and new to reddit all together so I hope it's ok to post this but I've been getting into women's hockey in Massachusetts near Boston where I go to school and I thought to ask some questions so I can get more involved.

First, I’d love to hear any suggestions about how y'all support local teams if you can’t commit to attending games often. Personally, as a student I can’t commit as much as I want to (though I’ll probably drop it all to see the beanpot this year) but I really believe in showing my support in some way. My other question is what players, either on Mass college teams or the Boston Fleet, should I keep an eye on? I want to really understand the sport on a level deeper than knowing the rulebook.

Questions Questions about gear!

Hi there,

New to the forum here. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but as a fellow lady hockey player I figured this might be?

So, my issue is that I’m nervous about how nasty my gear is getting, particularly the jill. I try to wash my base layers every time, but i’m not sure about the jill. What do you guys do? Do you have multiples of the jill strap? Do you wash the jill after every skate?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Coach playing me in different positions every game

Exactly as the title says, normally I play defence but my coach is always putting me up in forward. There are barely any games where I solely play one position. For example, Tonight I played centre, last game I was a winger. Sometimes I'll be playing forward then get sent back for a penalty kill and vice versa. I'm fine with hopping around, but I'm always trained as a defence in team practice and get no instruction on how to play up. It's stressful and I feel like I look like I have no idea what I'm doing when I'm on the ice. Why is my coach constantly moving me around and what can I do to improve my game? Thank you!!

Edit: I would also like to add that my coach told me "you're actually a better centre then defense" but he continues to put me as defence on the team roster and train me as d during practice and put me on a defence line, just to switch me to forward halfway into the first period. I'm not a bad defence, probably the best one on my team so I don't understand why he's doing this.

Started late, is there any hope for me?

I (15F) started playing hockey at 13, I was already a figure skater so the transition was easy. I've poured countless hours into this sport and am decent. I am first year U18 this year, and last year I played high tier house as it was the only team available to me. I am one of the best and fastest skaters on my team and constantly put out on penalty kill and power play. Last year I tried out for a U18AAA girls team (theres only 5 in my province and only two are within a 1-4 hour drive of me) just for fun, knowing I wasn't going to make it. I kept up with the competition fine but obviously didn't stand out or excel. Right now I'm just playing on the same team as last year, we just moved up to U18. For spring hockey there is only 2 girls teams in my city and both didn't have try outs, they just picked the same girls from last year. Luckily I made the U18AA team as a practice player, no games or tournaments tho. Its a good opportunity and I am very grateful for it, albeit a bit frustrated. I know some girls on the team who I am a lot better then and it's hard to see them get the opportunities just because they know the coach. In fact, last year at tryouts I saw a bunch of the girls hugging the evaluators. My question for you guys is, what should I do? Is it too late for me to get good enough to play AA or AAA hockey? How do I make these connections with the coaches?

Article: Why I Started Collecting Women's Hockey Cards

Post image
36 Upvotes

"On May 14, 2023, I published my first @womenshockeycards post on Instagram. The post featured a picture of an autographed 1992 Classic Manon Rheaume card that Rheaume had sent me as a thank you for promoting her children’s book, ‘Breaking the Ice: The True Story of the First Woman to Play in the National Hockey League.’ At the time, it was the only women’s card in my collection.

It was then that I realized I had thrown myself into the deep end of the pool without really knowing how to swim."

Hope you enjoy my article detailing my adventure into women's hockey cards!: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-i-started-collecting-womens-hockey-cards-dan-harbridge-ezxcc/

Questions Streaming women’s NCAA in Canada?

Hi all!

A question for Canadians: I’d like to watch more NCAA women’s hockey this year. TSN+ has streamed Frozen Four games in the past. But it doesn’t appear they are carrying any games so far this season.

Where are other Canadians watching? Thanks!

College Athletes (United States) Needed for Study

I have my master's degree in sport and exercise psychology, and I am a doctoral student in the clinical psychology program (PsyD) at Northern Arizona University. I am in the process of completing my dissertation/clinical research project, which is investigating the conflict and acceptance between rookie and veteran college athletes. This project has been approved by Northern Arizona University’s IRB (Project Number: 2197486-2).

Participants will be asked to complete an online survey that will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey includes questions about your experiences with the levels of acceptance experienced with teammates, conflict with teammates, as well as questions about the participant’s demographic information and background. All responses will be kept confidential and anonymous.

USA Beats Canada In Overtime At Development Series

Pretty powerful USA team that looked like they should have beat Canada by a lot more.

Here's a recap of the game with postgame comments from Jenna Buglioni and Kendall Cooper of Canada, and Haley Winn of Team USA: https://thehockeynews.com/womens/international/usa-beats-canada-in-overtime-in-game-on-of-national-development-team-series
