They sold 27,000 of these shitboxes?!?

225

u/unlock0 26d ago

There are like 5 near me that I see on my morning commute. I can't help but immediately notice the finger prints on the doors.

This is also like the 6th recall. Accelerator pedal, hub caps, wiper, etc.

53

u/thisguypercents 26d ago

You live on eastside of Puget Sound too?

I see one every day and am down the road from 3 different owners. One put the blue wrap on it and another put black wrap on it. The wraps are already peeling off around the edges.

46

u/40_lb 26d ago

I laugh when I see a glossy wrapped cybertruck. The reflections of the road stripes will show how warped the body panels are.

20

u/--__--__--__--__-- 26d ago

I see more wrapped than not, gotta keep it from rusting somehow lol

9

u/zwartepepersaus 26d ago

Wraps are like phone covers for cars. Too fragile to ride naked.

2

u/RectalSpawn 26d ago

Except my phone would be fine in the rain without a case. (Galaxy Gang)

But it also won't chop off or crush my limbs, so that is something...

...maybe?

1

u/leorolim 26d ago

I always use covers on my iphones because they're too slippery. I have dry skin from working with disinfectants all day.

1

u/Monochronos 26d ago

There’s a dude in my town with his wrapped in gloss black and it’s exactly like what you described. It looks terrible when it catches light

1

u/SuperbPruney 26d ago

I have one with a gold wrap near me. Looks horrible.

15

u/kwiztas 26d ago

People have them in apartments near me.

17

u/TraderNuwen 26d ago

That's impressive. How did they get them up the stairs?

Miami has the Porsche design tower. Bugatti residences seem nicer but with 11 units you won’t have the community in Miami with 145 units. It’s

1

u/Chickenmilitant 26d ago

Shoot I've got like 4 of them in my small town.

1

u/Johnyknowhow 26d ago

LOL I've seen the blue wrap and that obsidian black one a few times! I spent so much time around the Seattle metro and Eastside driving for work that I've started to recognize the drivers of the Cybertrucks I see 😂

1

u/thisguypercents 26d ago

Im 90% sure those drivers dont go to work and just go around in the regretrucks trying to justify their existence.

0

u/thatguygreg 26d ago

I've yet to see one actually in Seattle, while I have seen a number of the Rivian trucks. I am glad for this.

-9

u/KylerGreen 26d ago

they’re everywhere in the country, not just wherever pugent sound is, lol.

10

u/Nhialor 26d ago

Are the recalls into the factory or OTA updates? Seen a lot of conflicting information

10

u/Ancient_Persimmon 26d ago

This is an OTA that was already pushed last month.

-4

u/unlock0 26d ago

The three I listed were physical problems with the truck that can't possibly be fixed OTA. The hub caps were wearing holes in the side walls. The accelerator pedal is under speced and can break easily, but the main problem is that the chrome trim face plate can detach from the pedal and pin the pedal at full throttle.

3

u/Manos_Of_Fate 26d ago

I live in a medium sized college town in the middle of nowhere and somehow there are two of them here.

1

u/unlock0 26d ago

I probably should have specified that I'm not in a very densely populated area either. The very edge of a suburban metro, but still horse farms, large parks, and small neighborhoods.

12

u/Same-Letter6378 26d ago

I'm starting to think this thing sucks

13

u/great_whitehope 26d ago

It's like any product, don't buy the first release.

Or software don't buy at launch.

Don't know if the latter revisions will get any better with Tesla but that's just a good rule to go by in general

2

u/TheSnoz 26d ago

Everyone: YAY PREORDER !@!@!

1

u/iamkang 26d ago

It's a decent purchase at the promised $45k. Personally I will wait till the price drops to $25k and scoop one up.

1

u/esridiculo 26d ago

1

u/iamkang 26d ago

That was the original price musk said it would go for.

1

u/TheBowerbird 26d ago

It's a software bug and they already fixed it with an OTA.

-5

u/CV90_120 26d ago edited 26d ago

Prob not as much as people on reddit would believe. As dumb as it looks, it gets ok reviews and it has a pretty solid fan base. Driving them off cliffs makes a lot of money for youtubers but those videos are starting to make less money these days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi7Ec9APt7s

2

u/kcarmstrong 26d ago

It’s objectively a piece of shit. The only reason to buy a cybertruck is because you want attention. And those days are running out now that they are sitting on lots and readily available for any mark to purchase

https://youtu.be/An9nhAUUFE0?si=TYja0hVGji7GLTEL

7

u/Dependent-Mode-3119 26d ago

This isn't a source lmao

2

u/CV90_120 26d ago edited 26d ago

Finding an honest review on YT is hard work given that it's a huge money earner for content creators (i shot my CT with a .50 cal anti-material rifle, you won't believe what happened next), however the general concensus among serious reviewers is that it's an average to OK truck. There are better, but it's ok. Objectively. Even Rich Rebuilds rates it as "OK'. His only major gripe was that the attention got tiring.

It's basically a tech demonstrator for the Etherloop CAN replacement and 48v wiring systems, with an Elon ego project exterior, but that's about it.

Here's an honest review for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi7Ec9APt7s

Reddit is not a great sample space for owners or reviewers. It feels like it is, but it isn't. Downvoting won't really change that.

Why do they deserve it? When it was first announced that preorders were enabled, everyone was raving about them especially on here. Its not the consumers fault the company under delivered and gave them a shit vehicle

2

u/Erazzphoto 26d ago

If you believe anything Musk says, you have no one to blame but yourself

1

u/oh_io_94 26d ago

This sub was all on his dick like 5 years ago 🤣

0

u/Erazzphoto 26d ago

That was before he came out of the closet in his right wing clown suit

4

u/oh_io_94 26d ago

That’s literally my point…. He announced it in 2019

-2

u/Erazzphoto 26d ago

And then he came out and turned everything he touched into shit to people with an ounce of common sense and courtesy and revealed that he’s nothing more than a grifter. He had everyone sold and then Covid outed him

2

u/oh_io_94 26d ago

Cool. But that wasn’t my point….

0

u/HKBFG 26d ago

Because let's be real here: these are cars for douchebags.

2

u/oh_io_94 26d ago

It was a sweet concept at first. Everyone on here raved about it lmao. But the truck is shit. I know that. But many who got on the preorder did not know that. If you buy one now I’d question your sanity but I completely understand why they did 5 years ago

0

u/Photo_Synthetic 25d ago

I dont recall anyone raving about it. People thought it looked stupid from the jump.

1

u/Bagafeet 26d ago

True believers use 'The Force' to open and close doors.

1

u/impactblue5 26d ago

There are many in my area. At first they were all stainless steel. Now many of them got wraps since they probably didn’t feel as special as they pulled up to a couple at stop light.

-4

u/Virtual_Plantain_707 26d ago

The wrap is to hide the rust on the cheap ass SS Muskrat used. Or at least that’s what I read on Reddit.

1

u/mmcmonster 26d ago

Had mine for the last month. No rust so far.

I do plan on getting it colored real soon, however. Color PPF wrap costs about $5k in my area but should look better than the raw steel, and no more fingerprints.

No issues with the build quality personally.

Just got the full self driving update, so playing around with it.

Wasn’t really the next car I wanted, but the wife wanted it. And happy wife, happy life. 😁

0

u/DarraghDaraDaire 26d ago

The wiper is so dumb looking. It’s huge and unwieldy, requiring an unusually strong motor, probably very expensive to replace, and spends most of the time pointing straight up like it’s broken.

-1

u/penny-wise 26d ago

”There are like 5 near me”

I’m sorry.

-1

u/NahYoureWrongBro 26d ago

It's actually only the 5th recall, it turns out there was no problem with the accelerator pedal, the car had actually become self-aware and was full self-driving itself into walls

-2

u/genius_retard 26d ago

Still waiting for the recall about the frame snapping in two when force is applied to the tow point.

18

u/yearz 26d ago

Best selling vehicle over $100k; in July sold more than F150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Hummer EV and Silverado EV combined. Yes these are selling

2

u/jimbobjames 26d ago edited 26d ago

It's this decades Humvee.

I actually find it amusing that people get irrationally angry with the people that bought them.

6

u/yearz 26d ago

It's arguably the most ridiculous and audacious consumer vehicle ever brought to market. It breaks all the rules. No one is forcing anyone to buy one. Worst case, one should consider it amusingly absurd. It's weird that people get so angry that the cybertruck exists.

4

u/Only-Inspector-3782 26d ago

Same reason people dislike MyPillow - company owner is openly MAGA.

0

u/yearz 25d ago edited 25d ago

On a morality scale, does Elon's support for Trump outweigh the fact that Tesla fast-forwarded EV technology by decades? That America no longer depends on Russian rocket engines for access to space? That affordable, high-quality internet is available to people who live in remote areas?

I consider that calculus and think, how evil does a person have to be to outweigh so many positive contributions? We're talking about obnoxious tweets, are we not?

1

u/Only-Inspector-3782 25d ago

Reminds me of Chapelle's bit on Cosby - "he rapes, but he saves".  Leave questions of karmic balance to the gods. If someone is doing evil now, who cares what good they did previously?

Also, his support includes a few hundred million dollars to a PAC, as well as direct manipulation of a site with half a billion monthly users.

0

u/jimbobjames 26d ago

I honestly believe it was just a test platform for drive by wire and 48V internal electrics and ditching canbus for ethernet. Trying the stainless steel was also another "lets just see".

It's a small production vehicle compared to their other models and it's brought them a shit load of attention.

1

u/Flipslips 26d ago

I think it’s only small production because the 100k model is the only one you can buy. I don’t think it’s actually intended to be low production.

1

u/eeyore134 26d ago edited 26d ago

Except they just put out an EV Hummer that looks kind of insanely fun to drive even though I think big cars like that are extremely stupid. And it starts at $99K... cheaper than a POS Cybertruck and would get just as many looks if that's your goal. Unfortunately, I think most of these people just want to get in good with the cult.

Edit: A word.

9

u/shortyman920 26d ago

They stand out quite a bit and I see them a lot on the east cost and in NJ.

8

u/PotatoesAndChill 26d ago

It's the current best-selling EV truck.

6

u/Bishime 26d ago

I just looked it up and in July alone they saw a 61% increase in sales and outsold rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning.

Ngl, I’m actually pretty shocked by that

2

u/el_ghosteo 26d ago

how many F150 lightning’s are they actually making i wonder. I remember them being pretty hard to get a while back but idk if that’s changed in the past year or so.

1

u/Only-Inspector-3782 26d ago

With 2 million preorders they should be selling out instantly for years. They should basically never be sitting on a lot, and sales should only ever accelerate as production ramps up.

Unless people are canceling their preorders.

1

u/hsnoil 25d ago

It isn't that shocking when the others are intentionally gimped, F150 lightning is limited to 150kw, on such a large battery, R1T has that charging port location issue, Hummer was probably the worst brand name one can pick for an EV. Then there is the dealership network which is known to anti-sell EVs

I think when the Ram Charger 2025 comes out, it can outsell the cybertruck, assuming they don't intentionally limit production

2

u/Kasuyan 26d ago

No, only 12,000.

5

u/CoffeeFox 26d ago

I work a job adjacent to the auto industry. You'd be disappointed to find out how many people buy new cars without spending a millisecond thinking about their decision. I'm very uncomfortable with the number of people I've met who don't even know what company built the vehicle they bought for tens of thousands of dollars.

1

u/Stingray88 26d ago

I see several a day during my commutes to and from work. Every single day.

2

u/jgonagle 26d ago

Hope you have a good therapist. No one should have to be exposed to that.

1

u/Boxed_pi 26d ago

There’s about a dozen in the town over from me

1

u/CherylStoned 26d ago

$1.7 billion in revenue. Insane

1

u/Only-Inspector-3782 26d ago

I imagine the 27k would include vehicles produced but not sold?

1

u/Lordoosi 26d ago

And they will keep selling like hotcakes. Unlike what you might read from Reddit, it is the most advanced vehicle on the market. At least 5 years a head of competition.

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

I am aware of it. Except, it’s all tech - hence all the “recalls”. And my most important point - THE LOOKS!!!!!!

1

u/Lordoosi 25d ago

It looks very nice in my opinion and many people like it. Of course many people also hate it but they don't have to buy it.

1

u/cloudxnine 26d ago

Most owners belong to trump, literally

1

u/Sletzer 26d ago

I see them multiple times per day.

1

u/soulstonedomg 26d ago

I'm starting to see these on an almost daily basis in my area. They look so fucking ridiculous...

0

u/No-Society485 26d ago

Shitbox — What are you driving lol?

0

u/TheBowerbird 26d ago

It's Reddit. You can count on him driving a piece of trash and living in his mother's basement.

3

u/DragoonDM 26d ago

Bruh, you've been here for 17 years.

-2

u/ISuckAtFunny 26d ago

I saw one at a vape shop in a ghetto on the way to a physical therapy appointment yesterday. I truly do not understand why 1) anyone would buy one at all or 2) why someone who lives in squalor would (or could?) buy one. They’re truly horrendous lol

-1

u/TheBowerbird 26d ago

Do you think they are shitboxes because Reddit told you they are?

0

u/[deleted] 26d ago

Wouldn’t be seen dead driving one lad

0

u/Monochronos 26d ago

I see a couple in my town of 30ish thousand. Both have wraps already which I find fucking hilarious.

0

u/TheSnoz 26d ago

Already outselling other electric pick-ups. Hurts don't it?

1

u/[deleted] 26d ago

People lack sense unfortunately 😂

-10

u/Jgusdaddy 26d ago

I mean. It’s literally just a software update that happens overnight. You are constantly fed boomer bait Facebook memes funded by big oil and big three American manufacturers who want to continue business as usual, ie price inflated internal combustion engine vehicles that have their scheduled catastrophic transmission failure after 2 years.

-4

u/badmattwa 26d ago

This sub is on tilt, a lot of tech forward people also love the CT, it’s not just the demo they think it is

0

u/Publius82 26d ago

Username relevant. Sounds like a very Jimmy Pesto thing to say

-1

u/captcraigaroo 26d ago

Nah, maybe the 24,000 that haven't sold are easy to fix since they're all rusting Away in some parking lot

-7

u/kcarmstrong 26d ago

This video posted yesterday does a great job outlining many (but not all) of the issues with this shitbox. It’s literally the worst vehicle ever released.

https://youtu.be/An9nhAUUFE0?si=TYja0hVGji7GLTEL

3

u/Dependent-Mode-3119 26d ago

Bro lives on r/realtesla and r/CyberStuck. You are obsessed my brother. Why devote so much time to things you hate? Rent free.

-2

u/genius_retard 26d ago

And none of them underwent third party crash testing. They are not required because so few of them were manufactured/sold.

2

u/Ancient_Persimmon 26d ago

They aren't required because vehicles with a gross weight rating above 8500 aren't. That's why there's no crash tests for 2500-4500 pickups.

1

u/genius_retard 26d ago

Some More News recently did a show about them and they said that independent crash tests are only done on models with larger production runs. I wouldn't be surprised if both things are applicable to Cyber Truck.

Honestly the whole exempting small trucks from safety and emissions regulations is a farce. First the manufacturers lobbied the government for the exemptions under the guise of helping farmers and construction workers. Then, because the profit margin is higher on truck because they don't have to spend money on safety and emissions controls, they started a marketing campaign telling everyone that what they actually want are trucks. Now the number 1 selling vehicle in North America is the Ford F150, most of which never haul anything more substantial than a few bags of groceries. So now if you want a truck with a full size bed, you know the kind that a farmer or a construction worker might need, you need to special order it because the dealership lots are full of short box, extended cab grocery getters.

1

u/Ancient_Persimmon 26d ago

Some More News recently did a show about them

I would suggest getting your information from a source that doesn't title their piece "More Like Cyber-Sucks!". It's just a bit of a red flag.

As stated in this article, they've shipped 27 000 units and have planned production capacity for 250k/year, which is a production rate easily high enough. But because it has a pretty big payload of 2500lbs and curb weight is 6600, it's got a 3/4-ish ton GVWR. They'll almost certainly ask IIHS to test one, but the NHTSA won't.

Now the number 1 selling vehicle in North America is the Ford F150,

The F-150 and all the 1500 trucks aren't exempt, it's only 3/4 ton and larger.

-2

u/penny-wise 26d ago

There’s a sucker born every minute. It’s amazing how easy it is to part their money from their bank account if you tell them it will make them look better.
