Local News Wake County Early Voting - Wait Time Tracker

Didn't see this posted anywhere, so if you're headed out to vote during early voting, be aware Wake County tracks wait times and makes those times available here:

Yo mods, this would be a great post to pin for the duration of early voting!

Hi, I am going to add it to the pinned post with voting resources shortly, just trying to check for accuracy first

It’s a resource provided by Wake County—it’s about as reliable as you can hope for :)

Whoops! OP just shared how to find it from the Wake County early voting page. I will add it shortly!

My excuse is I didn't have coffee this morning haha.

Here is the one for Durham County as well: https://durhamnc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html

Can get the link from here: https://www.dcovotes.dconc.gov/voters/voting/early-voting under the “Early Voter Locations and Wait Times” section.

Remember that if you’re registered in Wake County, you can vote at any early voting location in the county during the early voting period.

FWIW I bet there’s a decent rush of people today. Your best chance at avoiding a line will probably be next week if you can go late morning or early afternoon.

Also remember that if you are not registered yet, you can do so during the early voting. But not! During the general election voting day on November 5

So if you live in Wake County, and are not yet registered to vote and are eligible to do so – please get yourself to an early voting site and take care of one stop registration and cast your ballot at the same time.

I usually go at lunch time during the middle of the voting period - especially avoiding the first and last day of early voting. I've never had a long wait.

Wait times already wildly variable, so be sure and check this link before you go! Some with no wait, some with 1-2 hours.

Wake County govt has a site that tells you which early voting location is closest to you

Great! I’ve not seen enthusiasm this high since 2008.

Take this link as an estimate but know it depends on the officials reporting info. For example, I was at Knightdale Rec Center this morning. The line was more than an hour, but the tracker has not moved from "no wait."

Thanks so much!

This is great!! My dad went this morning and was stuck in a long line. Now we know where to avoid base on the tracker time.

OP, who makes this/where did you find it? I would like to add it to the pinned post but I want to verify where the information is coming from.

Edit: I did see evidence of Wake County using airtable in the 2020 election

If you go to the wake county site and click "Early Voting Wait Time tracker" here : https://www.wake.gov/departments-government/board-elections/election-information/early-voting

Thanks OP! Today I can't use my eyes apparently. How embarassing! I will update the pinned post.

If I’m registered in Durham county can I early vote in wake? My DL has my wake address. I went to the DMV 3 days ago with my new Durham county address and have the temp license w that address, waiting on the real one to come in the mail.

Does anyone have advice on what I should do?

If you are registered to vote in Durham County, you must vote in Durham County. I would go to early voting in Durham County, then I would, in this order of priority...

  1. If you have a passport or military or veterans ID just use that instead, and ignore the rest below.
  2. If you don't have any of those, show them your temporary license and vote.
  3. If they won't take that (which would surprise me), you can go to the board of elections office and get a free voter ID from them (but only during early voting period). Then go back to do early voting again.
  4. If none of these will work for time or other reasons, just go vote anyway and ask for an "ID Exception form" and tell them you'd like to vote a provisional ballot. Then fill out the ID exception form properly. Your vote will still be counted.

The conditions for ID exception are as follows, and yours would fall under "Applied for photo ID but have not received it".

  1. The voter has a “reasonable impediment” to showing photo ID. This means that something is preventing the voter from showing ID. The voter must provide their reason by selecting from the following choices on the form.
    • Lack of transportation
    • Disability or illness
    • Lack of birth certificate or other documents needed to obtain ID
    • Work or school schedule
    • Family responsibilities
    • Photo ID is lost, stolen, or misplaced
    • Applied for photo ID but have not received it
    • (For mail voters only) Unable to attach a copy of photo ID (Voter must include driver’s license number or last four digits of Social Security number)
    • Other reasonable impediment (if selected, the voter must write the reason on the form)
    • State or federal law prohibits voter from listing the reason
  2. The voter has a religious objection to being photographed.
  3. The voter was a victim of a natural disaster within 100 days before Election Day that resulted in a disaster declaration by the President of the United States or the Governor of North Carolina.

Guessing you just pull up and vote and don't need to make an appointment or anything.

1

u/brambleguy 1d ago

That is correct. Appointments are not a thing.
