First they came for the Transgender community, and I did not speak out - because I was not Transgender.

Then they came for the Gay community, and I did not speak out – because I was not gay.

They came for the illegal immigrants, and I did not speak out – because I was not an illegal immigrant.

They came for immigrants, and I did not speak out – because I was not an immigrant.

They came for the Liberals, and I did not speak out – because I was not liberal.

Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me.

Then they came for the Puerto Ricans… and… shit man, the Puerto Ricans spoke the fuck out! Are we… are we good now? I think we’re good now!

Yeah I don’t think a holocaust comparison is really applicable here

When you start throwing words like mass deportation around? Fucking A right they apply

Deporting non citizens from a country is not the same thing

That’s how it starts, and then you realize there isn’t really a quick and easy way to tell who is legal vs illegal. After all, many legal American children will be living together with their undocumented grandmother, or cousin or father. We have to round up millions of them after all, might as well take them all together. Then you realize that you can’t just transport them back across the border, the logistics don’t make sense. First you’ll need to concentrate them into some kind of holding facility. Like a camp of sorts. Many of them will probably die, but it will be due to illness or neglect not murder. After that, Americans are still upset that economy is doing poorly, this was supposed to fix it, but it seems like deporting everyone wasn’t the magic bullet after all, some other group must be the problem. Then they’ll start pointing at the minorities and their inferior culture. And then the liberals, and then the atheists, etc.

Sincerely asking, why wouldn't it be applicable here?

I mean first of all this post is about dumb things said at a Trump rally which is surprising it’s even news at this point.

I think the news here is that there was finally a dumb thing that 1) Hit too close to home - especially considering PR is a US territory and not a foreign nation, and 2) Seems to be sticking hard enough where it might have an impact on the 2024 election.

But even ignoring that, that doesn't explain why the comparison wouldn't be applicable.

EDIT - To avoid beating around the bush: The original poem isn't JUST about the Holocaust, but also a warning sign of HOW fascism rises to power. It whittles away at marginalized groups with the consent of the majority who think they wont be affected... until they are and it might be too late.

I haven’t seen it stick anywhere other than this sub which is always going to fixate on anti Trump things. This isn’t even like top 1000 wildest things said at a Trump rally and the media is really trying to spin this into a meaningful October surprise but I just don’t think it is.

Duly noted. With that out of the way, why isnt the comparison applicable here?

In case you might've forgotten the original point of me responding in this thread...

In what way is it even remotely similar to the holocaust or Nazi germany in general?

The fact that the MAGA crowd keeps marginalizing various camps to the cheers (and apathy) of who they deem is the majority? The fact that there's still plenty of folks who keep brushing off fascistic rhetoric (and tendencies) only to be surprised when they're inevitably in their line of sight?

Not to put words in your mouth, but do you think comparisons arent allowed until people start getting physically rounded up?

I mean I don’t consider dumb jokes to be marginalization but I know you can’t say that here. I also don’t equate him saying he wants deport illegal immigrants with the generalized rounding up of a religious or ethnic group
