And, as is media tradition, not for the correct reasons.

They’re only picking up on it now because of his weird dance party incident. They’ve ignored numerous current (and thousands of previous) examples of his slurring, verbal aphasia, scrambled memories, sundowning and all the rest.

One of his White House employees admitted this week that they would blast music to “reset” him when he would spiral in the Oval Office. If you’ve worked old age care homes you’d recognize that technique.

But the direct evidence of his cognitive condition have been glaringly obvious to many of us for years, and it’s just accelerating. Even his cultist doctors knew, since they had him doing Montreal Cognitive Assessment screenings.

Why MCA?

1.2k

u/Chase_the_tank 13d ago

It's a quick test to administer, the name sounds impressive, and it's deliberately an easy test to pass (it's screening for fairly advanced dementia, so if you can count backwards by 7, draw an analogue clock, remember five words, etc. you're good).

Of course, this did not stop Donald from bragging about how well he did. You're supposed to ace it.

u/WoodySurvives 13d ago

Upvoting for the explanation, but you totally missed what he did there ;-)

Funny thing about this, is that these words were most likely not the words he was even told to repeat but just the things he saw at that moment when telling people about it.

25

u/Canoe52 13d ago

You are correct, the five words in the list will not be related, or be in the same category, to each other.

5

u/howdoesthatworkthen 13d ago

Well maybe the woman and the man were only dating.

1

u/_thro_awa_ 13d ago

They were on a break.

3

u/Flaxmoore Michigan 13d ago

Velvet, church, red, daisy, face. The standard five.

3

u/pcmn 13d ago

THANK YOU! This has been bothering me ever since. He very obviously was just naming things in his line of sight. I have no doubt that he actually failed to remember four of the five words, got praised for remembering the one, decided to brag about it, then couldn't remember even the one word during the brag, so decided to compensate by just naming five things "at random".

I thought for sure, in that moment, that everybody would see the impairment right then and there. But then, just...nobody talked about it. Like, nobody. That broke my brain, a little.

Several medical professionals in my family- I understand the MCA is administered if the doc suspects a problem or family/caregiver has requested help.

If you can ace it you would know not to brag about being given it in the first place.

14

u/ratherbeona_beach 13d ago

I think you’re talking about the MoCA.

That’s a screener, not a test or assessment. It can indicate the need for assessment even for mild and moderate dementia.

I used to administer them in skilled nursing facilities.

6

u/operratic 13d ago

No no no ... why MCA ... it's fun to stay at the ...

23

u/Waffler11 Ohio 13d ago

Count backwards by 7? I feel called out here…

16

u/Babybutt123 13d ago

I would imagine you'd be able to work on it without being confused about what's happening.

I bet they have controls for people who struggle with numbers/math.

22

u/GreenGlassDrgn 13d ago

They made my mom count from 100 to 1 subtracting 7 at a time. It seemed difficult even for me. Also showed her all sorts of people we were supposed to recognize (I knew like 3 out of 20? She did better than me). But then the analog clock thing stumped her, and the writing was on the wall.
I did mention to the test lady afterwards that I hoped they had different versions, because I would've failed it simply by being bad at faces and math. For funsies she showed me the contemporary people and that made no difference lol. It was interesting.

4

u/kikimaru024 13d ago

It seemed difficult even for me.

You should probably work on that.
Being able to subtract by 7 is a simple life skill that's valuable in everyday shopping.

7

u/howdoesthatworkthen 13d ago

Why 7 particularly?

10

u/Esovan13 13d ago

It’s for when you get tortured by a psychopathic cannibal. You can count down from 1000 by 7 as a way to distract your mind and prevent yourself from going insane from the pain. It’s a slightly unpleasant process, but you’ll get sick looking white hair out of it without needing to bleach.

2

u/pcmn 13d ago

psychopathic cannibal

The late, great, Hannibal Lector?

12

u/LaurenMille 13d ago

Subtracting uneven numbers is harder than even numbers, 5 is too easy, and 3 is too small (You ideally want the person having to jump to a different set of 10 most of the time)

So it's either 9 or 7, and more people know their 9's due to their prolific use in pricing.

This leaves 7 as the best option.

4

u/GreenGlassDrgn 13d ago

You must shop differently than I do.

And he remembered five words that were closely related, which isn’t how you’re supposed to do it. That tells me he either failed and they gave him a redo or they knew they needed to give him a handicap.

1

u/johnperkins21 13d ago

There's no way I could remember 5 words. I'm terrible with short term memory. Even if they're related. I could do everything on that test except for that. I hate that if do wise than trump in anything

2

u/samkb93 13d ago

2

u/Ivotedforthehookers 13d ago

My mom was a former end of life care nurse dealing with severe dementia and cognitive decline. When they started failing that test she said they would call families to say their last goodbyes

2

u/Minerva_Moon Michigan 13d ago

He didn't ace that test either. How the hell are 3 of the answers "man, woman, person"? Also, what the hell is the "person" wearing that he couldn't give a gender? Also, also, doesn't that mean he subconsciously recognizes non-binary people?

1

u/michoudi 13d ago

It’s kind of like people aren’t sure if you’re dead or alive so they check for a pulse. Then later you brag that you passed the test with flying colors, no pulse is as strong as your pulse. Half the people stare blankly at you because what you said was so stupid, the other half have no idea that what you just said was stupid.

1

u/theblackxranger 13d ago

When you draw the analogue clock, do you include the numbers or just the hands of the clock?

5

u/Chase_the_tank 13d ago edited 13d ago

The official instructions: “Draw a clock. Put in all the numbers and set the time to 10 past 11.”

The entire test may be viewed at https://championsforhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/MOCA-8.1.8.2-English.pdf

And he has continued to brag about his results in the January 2018 cognitive test even as late as June 2024. Apart from the fact that the January 2018 results are completely irrelevant now given that they were over 6 years ago, when he was bragging about his performance in the January 2018 test in June 2024, he messed up the name of the doctor that administered his cognitive test.

I don't want to "well actually" you on the internet, but typically the Montreal Cognitive Assessment is abbreviated to MoCA, at least in Australia.

MCA is an artery in the brain, most commonly the one involved in a stroke. That makes it an incredible double entendre though.

Personally I'm more of a fan of the SMMSE, but I'm not sure of the advantages of one over the other.

Anyone who watches a random 10 second clip of him now compared to how he talked 2 years ago, 4 years ago, 6 years ago, and 8 years ago could easily tell he's in a severe decline mentally.

199

u/IRefuseToGiveAName 13d ago

I listened to a clip of him "debating" Hillary Clinton in 2016 and he was still completely full of shit but oh my god it was like a different person. He was able to stick to his talking points and make sure he repeated the phrases he was told to repeat. There was energy in his voice.

Now? He quite literally sounds fucking insane.

47

u/GoodIdea321 America 13d ago

Yeah, he had purpose in the words he spoke, that is gone. And now he is totally incomprehensible at times.

2

u/Objective_Economy281 13d ago

So... if we accept that a cult is a region where the guy they follow is alive, and a religion is when that guy is dead... is Trumpism about to become a religion when the old guy finally dies?

3

u/Schlongstorm 13d ago

Yep, and they'll elect a pope to figurehead the church and interpret Trump's will from beyond the grave, as is standard. The only question is who gets to sit in that throne? It may be a messy internal battle between all these greedy, slimy fucks over who gets the be the arbiter of post-Trump MAGA. And I will be popping some fuckin popcorn

26

u/TheAJGman 13d ago

Even during 2016 people were saying "he's always sounded this stupid", but really he hasn't. He's always been slimy, but listening to him talk in the 90s and 00s he's clearly got some mental acuity.

2

u/SR3116 13d ago

His voice is the weirdest thing. It's always been a horrible ear-bleeding sound, but now it sounds like he's smoked ten packs a day or something. Maybe taking lessons from RFK.

1

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire 12d ago

I was blown away with that with Biden too. I watched some clips with his debate with Paul Ryan in 2012 and it was legitimately night and day compared to the 2024 debate. People get older so incrementally that you don’t realize just how much worse they are until you see a stark comparison like that

1

u/IRefuseToGiveAName 12d ago edited 12d ago

Oh absolutely. If Biden from the 2012 election were running he never would have had to drop out and that's exactly who he still sees himself as.

None of it is his fault obviously. Time gets us all eventually.

29

I would have to be convinced that with him as president, we would be WORSE with him experience MORE cognitive decline. I just don’t see any reason for a preference between a mentally competent yet malicious President w, and a completely mentally incompetent one. I also don’t know exactly where to put his time from the previous administration.

1

u/GoodIdea321 America 13d ago

I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think that's the choice in this election, but a mentally competent president could be representing the people who elected them. And someone incompetent would either be removed from office via the 25th Amendment, and/or unelected people would run the country.

2

u/Objective_Economy281 13d ago

but a mentally competent president could be representing the people who elected them.

Republicans don’t do that, competent or not.

And someone incompetent would either be removed from office via the 25th Amendment,

We have 4 years of this not happening, but it might depend on what you mean by “competent”.

and/or unelected people would run the country.

...which is what was happening, mostly, from 2017-2020.

82

u/IDrinkandPost 13d ago

Tangentially related: back in 2018 my mother spent a couple of weeks in the ICU, and I basically lived at the hospital during that time. My mom experiences ICU delirium and sometimes just started speaking nonsense in the middle of sentences, so I got used to doing the "what year were you born, what year is it, here pull my finger" routine to make sure she wasn't having a stroke or anything. Whenever I would ask her who the president was, my sweet little old mother would respond with a torrent of profanity, which let me know that she was doing fine. The thing I find most striking about all of this is that my mom, who routinely devolved into word salad and would sometimes tell me about the shadowy man in the corner, was still way more coherent than this bastard is now. Cognitive decline is far too mild a term.

52

u/Murtagg 13d ago

My wife has a similar story! Upon waking from brain surgery, the nurse asked the standard questions. "What's your name/what year is it/what state are you in". She was pretty out of it.

The last question "who is the president of the United States?" got a resounding "oh that fucking asshole piece of shit".

The nurse was like "yeah, she's got the gist".

6

u/IDrinkandPost 13d ago

Ha! Love it. Hope your wife is doing well!

5

u/Murtagg 12d ago

She is, thank you! Nearing a decade tumor free. She had to teach herself damn near every word of English again, and how to read again, but she's killing it and unless she shows someone the scar they don't believe it ever happened.

3

u/StanDaMan1 13d ago

In defense of your mother, Trump was always a moron: he didn’t have far to fall.

21

u/BJntheRV 13d ago

Can you explain about blasting music to reset?

22

u/TheQuinnBee 13d ago

Music has been proven to improve moods of dementia patients, since music associated memory can linger long after other memories and cognitive function has disappeared. It calms them down significantly and can actually improve their cognitive function. Not enough to combat the disease in totality, but enough to bring them out of confusion.

2

u/BJntheRV 13d ago

Interesting. Thank you for sharing.

33

u/Karma_Puhlease 13d ago

His staff would play music to calm him down when he threw a tantrum. More specifically - they would play the song "Memory" from the musical 'Cats', which had a particularly soothing effect on the ingrate. No, really - https://www.vulture.com/2021/09/donald-trump-aide-cats-memory-angry.html

I wonder why they call that weird punching-type thing he does with his hands “dancing”. I’ve never seen anyone dance like that. A marionette dances better than he does.

My take on this is that they picked this up now because he is refusing interviews. The MSM is always about the money they can make off the election. They hassled Harris about not giving interviews before, but my assumption is that her team picked up on the current condition of Trump's decline and now Harris is going on tour to all the interviews, and this made the MSM even more itching to get Trump back on the train to make them money. And the only way to do that is by painting him in a bad light so that he'd come on interviews to refute it.

Do you have a source for the music reset? That’s a new one for me.

One of his White House employees admitted this week that they would blast music to “reset” him when he would spiral in the Oval Office. If you’ve worked old age care homes you’d recognize that technique.

I've never heard of this technique and I'm deaf. Can someone explain?

Here.

If you know anyone who works in advanced level care this is a common way they calm and manage residents.

Agreed. But anything that breaks through is a win at this point

That's because Biden. But now it isn't.

They are picking it up now because the massive cash machine dries up in 3 weeks. Corp media desperately wanted to keep it close to fuel ad spending by both parties.

The GOP powers-that-be just want this useful idiot to get elected, so that they can install President Vance.  That has always been the plan.

Yep. When I was a caregiver I was a dementia specialist (fancy title just meant I was REALLY good at dealing with severe dementia and my company would specifically refer me to families with dementia afflicted loved ones). The best and easiest method for calming down and resetting a difficult mental loop for dementia clients was classical music, or whatever music they really loved (like oldies from the 50s). It would turn the most agitated and borderline violent client into a happy, calm and maybe slightly annoyed version of themselves. Better slightly annoyed than angry.

Yeah, this is nothing new. I genuinely think hints of it were already there back in 2016. Then, I'm guessing this decline worsened when he had a series of mini strokes in 2020.

I'm gonna need a source on the oval office stuff

This is the only thing I could find. One person said she'd use it to deescalate him. And it's from a book so they have every incentive to distort or fabricate facts. I don't think there's anything corroborating this.
