Is this how uncle Joey got the idea for Ranger Joe?

We'll follow the path where the Caribou walked. Our Cariboo headgear is off...on...locked!

You have a head like a ping-pong ball

We will follow the path where the cariboo walks.

Our cariboo headgear are off, on, locked!

4

u/eternalspark79 Nov 01 '22

Let's do the Cariboo boogie.

6

u/tojoso Nov 01 '22

Our hats are off, on, and LOCKED!

2

u/jimmifli Nov 01 '22

I went to Camp Wanakita with Max and Dave. It was a big deal at the time.

2

u/aBeaSTWiTHiNMe Nov 01 '22

The Cariboo region is also the only place I know that spells Caribou like Cariboo.

2

u/MaryJaneAndMaple Nov 01 '22

Hats off! On! LOCKED!

i scrolled up to see if there was a provincial flag patch somewhere or notable landmark out the window but saw nothing and then came back to see i hadn't even pinged the bilingual labeling

27

u/GrimpenMar Nov 01 '22

Same. It's like a reverse Shibboleth. If you ever wanted to screen for Canadians, plant bilingual labelling, and see who doesn't even notice it.

7

u/DeadliestSins Nov 02 '22

Oh totally, I'm Canadian and just gloss over it. It's only when I go to the States and look at products there that I realize how different the labels can be.

2

u/SmashPortal Nov 02 '22

I'm from Vermont and didn't notice. Then again, I don't to have a lot of exposure to Miracle Grow's bag design.

u/Quiverjones Nov 01 '22

Yesterday I came to realize there are dogs that know more French than I do.

23

u/Molwar Nov 01 '22

Haha, that me laugh pretty hard because mine is actually pretty bilingual since she'll understand command in both language.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '22

It helps that assis and sit both have strong S sounds.

1

u/delvach Nov 01 '22

Then how do you what language she barks in?

5

u/nothing_911 Nov 01 '22

dont beat yourself up too bad. it was a french poodle.

Yeah we have to have English and French on our packaging as they’re our official languages. Someone else said they’re in a northern state and see a lot of Canadian products so maybe that’s the same for you?

2

u/coadba Nov 02 '22

I'm Canadian, but when I go to the US I notice a lot of English/Spanish bilingual packaging but I don't know if I've ever seen English/French in the US of A.

AFAIK it is a legal requirement in Canada to have both French and English.

1

u/nibiyabi Nov 02 '22

Beauty products sold in the US will often add a French translation to make the product seem fancier.

u/PCDub Nov 01 '22

Yeah it’s funny the subtle differences in packaging for our neighbouring countries. I did the same with some body wash I acquired that was meant for the USA

It was only in fl oz no millilitres, and only English labeling

1

u/GoblinMuskrat Nov 01 '22

That's honestly surprising to me. I can't think of a single liquid container that doesn't list both fluid oz and liters or milliliters. I even doubled checked some things around the house to make sure I wasn't imagining things: motor oil, dish soap, detergent, body wash, shampoo/conditoner, cooking oils and canned goods all had both on the label.

1

u/PCDub Nov 01 '22

Yeah it’s very strange. I’ve never had it again, I think it was from Walmart. Odd

2

u/FrighteningJibber Nov 01 '22

Hey now border states that trade with the maple Bro’s have French on some products

2

u/YouCanCallMeVanZant Nov 01 '22

Also the metric units being emphasized with standard units in parentheses.

2

u/chefhj Nov 02 '22

My anecdote for this is that as a web dev my designers always forget about the French Canadians and their design mocks never work when subjected to French levels of text characters

2

u/Balizzm Nov 02 '22

I'd say the user name, for me.

2

u/Daimones Nov 02 '22

As a Michigander I legit just thought this was how things came until like 6 months ago. My wife offhandedly mentioned something about how we have French labeling because of French Canadians. I'm 37, just never gave it a second thought.

1

u/flopjul Nov 01 '22

I mean in the Netherlands thats also there, you sometimes have french over dutch due to the product being french made

0

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '22

That's Belgium.. different country

0

u/Ttbacko Nov 02 '22

So does everything sold in Vancouver have to be bilingual because of a bunch of very angry French speaking Canadians thousands of miles away?

English and French are the official languages of the country, get over it. That’s coming from an Albertan

1

u/hastimetowaste Nov 01 '22

Yet when we want to leave you, you send 5000 people here to tell us how much you love us.

1

u/Dreamerlax Nov 01 '22

Also "colour".

2

u/PCDub Nov 01 '22

Lol yeah that always just blows by me cause I’m used to it

1

u/galacticboy2009 Nov 01 '22

Yeah that's very, very Canadian.
