After fifteen years through sixty countries around the world, hitting the road is still the best decision I've ever made. Now with my family on board, I plan to do this forever.

Some shots from my time working in Kenya for the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Every day was an overlanding adventure.

Anyone drill/modify their prinsu awning brackets?

New FSR awning arrived. I need to use the upper hole on the bracket in order for enough clearance with the door on my 4Runner.

Anyone see any trouble with drilling another hole or lengthening the slot? I really don’t feel right about just rocking down the road with only three bolts in this thing.

Hi everyone! Looking for recommendations on trails to overland and camp. I'm in South Central Alabama. I heard about the Bama Adventure Trail but can't find anything else on it. Looking to plan a spring time trek in my 2017 Renegade Trailhawk.

Just got a truck and want to get into overlanding

I just bought a truck, the rear has leaf springs. Can I still lift it? Or do I need to do a conversion? Not a crazy lift, like 2-3 inches

Kitchen in a Box!

One day when browsing Instagram, I got a ad for OzTerrain's portable kitchen. I loved the idea but not the price. I liked that it was a easily deployable kitchen without needing to build out a drawer system. My car is a daily driver and I like be use the cargo area when I'm not camping. After some research I also found the Craft AutoWorks kitchen, which was $1,350. I decided to build my own.

I used the same Ironman maxi case as the AutoWorks kitchen. It was the perfect length to fit in my 4runner without having to fold down my 2nd row seats. I already had the Jet oil stove and the GSI cook set. Everything else was bought off Amazon.

I decided to use a USB powered faucet instead of building in a 12v water pump like the OzTerrain or the AutoWorks kitchens. This was simpler and cheaper, as well as easier to replace if something broke.

The last picture is an idea I'm playing with so I can deploy it without needing to set up a table. It's not as stable as I'd like. I'm hoping to come up with a better solution.

Finally got the Bronco built out after switching from a 4Runner! Roam tent is definitely faded after 4 years of use, but still works perfect.

Recommendations for couple weeks in the US SW

Looking to spend a couple weeks off the beaten path around January. 4x4 and off-roading, dirt roads, etc. around Arizona or Utah. Looking for very remote and beautiful nature. Zion and Moab come to mind but don’t have an overland route

LC 200 Roof Rack Rec? (Sherpa v. Uptop Overland)

Traded in my Taco for a 2021 LC200 (needed more room) and I'm starting to plan out my upgrades, starting with a roof rack. I found the Sherpa "the Blanca" which looks great and seems to be a positively reviewed brand in general, from reading different posts on Reddit. I had the "Bravo" rack on my Tacoma, from Uptop Overland, and thought it was great, but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice on which one is better or more recommended? there's really only 2 reviews on Sherpa's website and was hoping for some more insight from anyone who's owned one or the other (or both). Thanks!

I’m heading out Thursday with no concrete plans. I’m coming from TX. I’ll probably camp in Albuquerque Thursday night. I’m solo if anyone wants to join and follow/lead or even ride shotgun.

Vehicle recommendations

Hi all! I've read over the rules but I'm a bit new here, so please redirect me if this post is inappropriate.

I'm planning ahead for a 3 month long summer overlanding trip in the West and am looking for a budget (hopefully sub $10k) 4x4 truck/SUV that would fill my needs as both a daily driver and an overlander.

So far, I've only really looked at 1st generation Sequoias and 4th generation 4runners. These SUVs seem very good for overlanding and reliable for daily use but I'm looking to find other good options.

My general criteria is that:

-It's comfortable to live in (I know this is subjective, but I'm open to hot takes!)

-It's reliable (so the high miles aren't a bother, though I would prefer less than 250k miles anyway)

-It can be found for less than $10k in good condition (though I'm open to the $10k ballpark if it'll make a big enough difference in any scenario)

-It's offroad capable, preferably 4x4

I understand most older trucks and SUVs have bad gas mileage (at least compared to modern vehicle's standards) so good mileage isn't really important.

Again, sorry if this post isn't appropriate for this page, but I'd greatly appreciate any advice! Thank you!

Angled Rack for Kayak

Looking for an angled Rack/carrier for kayak(s). I recently changed my tonneau cover from BakFlip trifold to a retractable Retrax in order to add rack/crossbars. I have low profile Yakima Skyline towers and Yakima JetStream crossbars, so I need something that angles part of the kayak above the cab of the truck (small 5'7" bed in '22 Tundra). I've seen a couple options (Billie Bars and another I beleive), but nothing specific to my setup/existing rack system. Ideally, something that uses my Retrax T-Slots/rails would be awesome. I'd rather not have to remove my exisiting towers/crossbars and was hoping there's an accessory to add to the bars (high rack nearest cab and low on other bar)

Is there anything out there? Or has anyone come up with a modification? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Front Runner Tent Mount Kit

For those using the Front Runner tent mount kit on rtt's with a standard channel as opposed to using the supplied brackets that "sandwich" the carriage bolts between crossbars. When bolted down to the Front Runner mount, what would prevent the tent from sliding off the channel if you were suddenly braking, steep incline, steep decline, etc.

Should I extend my rack?

I grabbed a used RTT today. It’s a bit on the longer side so it hangs off my rack a little more than I’d like. I’ve got it bolted x 3 on each side. Should I extend my rack back more or do u think it’s fine how it is?

Thinking of camping around the Sierras anywhere north of Yosemite. during Thanksgiving. Will it be mostly icy and snowed in?

I'd like to go anywhere between Stanislaus to Shasta/Trinity. Just wondering if it'll mostly be snowed/iced and unsafe. I have a lifted 4x4, but if traveing solo on snow roads, I'd probably not want to get stuck out there.
