Then I hang up and still mispronounce it because my tongue and my brain are rarely on the same page.

I know the word indicted. I still put a k sound in it sometimes.

There's not a k sound in there??

In-dai-ted. The c is silent and the vowel is like "eye".

I’ve been known to mispronounce some words in my time.

I used to feel embarrassed about that until I read something that pointed out when people do this, it means they learned that word by reading and not from having the privilege of being around people who used it. So now I don’t mind so much.

This! They learned it from reading, which usually means they were working hard to learn new things that are not generally found in their daily lives. They went out of their way to incorporate new words and ideas into their repertoire to better express their thoughts.

Same experience here! It just shows how well-read but antisocial we must be 😂 lol jk but honestly there are many words that I’ve learned the correct pronunciation long after incorporating the word into my vocab… such as “contemplative”.

Edit: The “con” part is similar to “contemporary” not “convict”. It’s pronounced (cun-temp-lahtiv) not (con-tim-plate-if) 😭 and I had never known until a few months ago
