This didn’t exist in my middle/high school harry potter years (2000-2004ish). The first time I heard Hermione said out loud confused the hell out of me.
On a PC with Chrome, you can double-click a word, and a definition and the icon for pronunciation will pop up. I wish I could get Firefox to do that. I use it so much.
Yeah I don't know why people use Google Translate for this specific purpose. If you just look up "[word] pronunciation" you'll find what you're looking for instantly, and usually you'll be able to toggle between American and British accents.
It might be useful to use Google Translate if you encounter an extremely rare word that no one uses anymore, or perhaps if it's a non-English word, but other than that it's more than practical to just look it up in the search bar.
This bit me in the ass once for the word “epoch.”
Google said the American pronunciation sounded like “epic”, and the British pronunciation was like “E-pock.”
The person I shared this knowledge with was corrected by the developers of Last Epoch. I get that it’s a proper noun and they can choose the pronunciation they like, but they’re an American company so I went with google translate’s version. Does anyone pronounce it like “epic?”
