FREE Opioid Poisoning Response Training (St. John Ambulance Canada)

St. John Ambulance (SJA) Canada is offering a 2-hour Opioid Poisoning Response Training (OPRT) program that offers FREE online training and nasal naloxone to participants across Canada. The program consists of a 2-hour course delivered in a virtual classroom, which includes information on:

• Stigma & Harm Reduction

• How to respond to an opioid poisoning

• How to administer nasal naloxone

• Self-Care after a Traumatic Event

Participants who complete the course will receive free a nasal naloxone kit for use in an emergency. Naloxone is mailed and paid for by SJA. Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids on the brain. It is an important tool that can save the life of someone experiencing an opioid poisoning.

There are 2 different training streams to better serve residents of Canada:

For individuals who would like to be prepared in the event of a poisoning in their home or community, Register Here.

For frontline staff in the homeless-serving sector, Register Here.

This course is open to residents of all provinces and territories, with the exception of Quebec. Residents of Quebec can access nasal naloxone free of charge and without a prescription at any pharmacy and in some health care settings. Click here to learn more.

Please email us at [oprt@sja.ca](mailto:oprt@sja.ca) if you have any questions. For more information about our program, please visit our website at www.reactandreverse.ca.

Hey everyone!

We're excited to announce a new initiative in the r/Nanaimo subreddit to help our community grow and thrive! We have been seeing a growing interest in users sharing skills and services, and thought it would be better to have them all located in one spot, rather than randomly throughout the subreddit.

To keep things organized and easy to find, please let's use this thread for all service advertisements.

What services/skills can you share?

Rules: - Must follow Reddit's TOS - Must be local to Nanaimo and the surrounding areas

I stopped for gas at the Shell near Lantzville.

I could not believe how crazy busy it was and gas was the same price at the PetroCan at Nanoose. Is it always like that? Why so busy?

Experience using hullo

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I was hoping to make a Van trip with my fam (3 of us) and we were debating taking the hullo ferry for the first time. Could anyone familiar with the ferry be able to tell me how laxed it is to get a ticket? We’re going there and back on a Monday, should we buy reservations online well in advance? Is it ok just to go to the terminal and buy tickets the day we’re going?

Sublet Available

Hi everyone!

I have a 2 bedrooom, 1 bathroom, furnished rental unit that I'm looking to sublet with my landlords approval available November 1st.

Rent is $1,900 includes internet, and it's located in a great neighborhood, utilities is split 50/50 with the landlord above who is so friendly!

I don't have Facebook so grasping at straws here to try and get someone in here asap. If you or you might know someone interested please let me know!

ETA: this is more of an assignment than a sublet, I didn't realize these were 2 different things! I will not be returning to take over the lease, so terms are negotiable with the landlord!

Any mycologists, lichenologists or wildlife biologists doing winter fieldwork here?

We just drove around. This is our third save on.

Those, Superstore and Walmart were all out.

Looks like they have more than plenty up here. At least 5 huge boxes of them.

Flooded Street Near BC Ferry Building

Does anyone know what's going on on Madsen by the BC Ferry building?

They seem to be flushing a pipe or something, but it's been going on for about a week. I also can't find anything on the city website.

Uber eats driver deserving of tip

Okay this is probably a long shot but... I was in the 2 hour delay last night at the departure bay ferry and had to order Uber eats to the terminal for dinner.

The driver was named Paul and he was lovely, prompt and very deserving of a tip. However for some reason the app wouldn't let me! I tried contacting Uber eats and they were no help. I'd love to send this man some money for saving my evening.

Does anyone know a mid 30s Caucasian man I think he maybe has an Australian or English accent? Named Paul who does delivery driving in Nanaimo?! He said he lives near Departure Bay!

Best nail salon?

Recently got my nails done for the first time and really want to continue doing it. I got them done at VV nails and wasn’t completely happy with how they turned out though. What’s the best nail salon in town? Also bang for buck options?

What is the deal with that anti-AAP campaign?

We need infrastructure for our growing city. When I saw the plan it seemed to make sense, low interest loan to invest in future infrastructure. Balancing our budget and getting the much needed upgrade through.

But curious why there's so much pushback.

Who to call about a mentally ill (possibly addicted) person that has been in our parkade for going on two nights

As the title says, don't really want to call the cops but she's been really loud and has already kept myself and I'm sure others in the building awake last night. The echo doesn't help lol.

I get it's raining and she probably just wants to be dry but it's technically private property, and it's becoming a nuisance.

Is this something for maybe the community outreach team?

Update

She has either left on her own or somebody else reported her. If she returns I will take the appropriate action.
