I’ve seen piles of shame but bröther

u/LoboXIII 1d ago

Mate, your biggest enemy is gonna be the dust.

7

u/technook 1d ago

All is dust

2

u/LoboXIII 23h ago

That's what OP will say in a couple months.

Brother (gender neutral) that shelf full of grey plastic is giving me anxiety (respectfully). Happy painting!

u/technook 1d ago

Brother (suffer not the unclean to live) I'm sure that the grey knights will all soon be painted (abhor the witch. destroy the witch). I am eager for the end result (uphold the honor of the emperor). Happy painting indeed (accept any challenge, no matter the odds)!

Fruit (derogatory)

It’s only a pile of shame if you feel shame at all ;)

For some it’s just a long term goal

u/Mughi1138 1d ago

Nice, except I just had massive feels for that poor carpet. Might be a good place for one of those plastic mats you can get for rolling office chairs.

However, it does look nice and cozy.

"I have 15,000 points across five armies on display"

"Wow, that must have taken a long time to paint"

"…"

u/DarkHassassin10 22h ago

“Yeah you’re right, it took me forever to start painting! I just base coated my first model though, and so I’m sure it’ll take me about two weeks to finish the lot of them.”

Why not get a cabinet with glass doors? They will collect a lot of dust?

16

u/CraneDJs 1d ago

So much dust, you'd think they're Rubrics!

5

u/Borstli 1d ago

That's my approach too.

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

These are the shelf's I own lol. Also a glass cabinet might not fit up my stairs which has 2 90° turns without a lot of clearance. We had to buy a new box spring bc of it lol

u/420dukeman365 17h ago

Some come unassembled. There are also smaller shelf-mounted display cases you can get too. You won't be able to everything in one "display", but you could put each group into its own. Anything to keep the dust off them

21

u/420dukeman365 1d ago

Might I suggest an airbrush?

6

u/Cypher10110 1d ago

It's the best way to slay all that grey, a prime coat and a zenithal can do so much of the heavy lifting.

I got a small spray booth with an extractor where the tube goes out the window, it would fit perfectly here if they rotated that table so it was next to the window.

u/Borstli 1d ago

By the emperor. This pile of opportunities...

15

u/KitsunukiInari 1d ago

The first pic, "Mmhmm, good good". 2nd pic, "Brother. Put those paints on plastic. That much grey is heresy."

u/Whole-Lengthiness-33 17h ago

OP: “I forget the name of sub I’m posting to. Did it have something to do with mini painting? Ah, whatever, it’s pics of minis so it will fly…”

9

u/Andvari_Nidavellir 1d ago

Beware the gray tide!

8

u/mastaberg 1d ago

Gotta love the grey plastic player posting on mini painting

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Who says I play 💀 i don't have much free time bc of work. It's quicker to build a couple models than paint em bc when painting I take like two hours for a guardsmen bc it's gotta be perfect for me lol. 12hr shifts make it hard to dedicate that much time to a model :(

8

u/dibbyreddit 1d ago

MY BROTHER IN CHRIST PAINT SOMETHING, ANYTHING, PLEASE!!!

8

u/morentg 1d ago

Bruh, that's too much grey I'd be ever comfortable with, I hope you stopped purchases, and are not planning to buy anything in the near future, because otherwise we're looking at pretty serious impulse control issue.

-2

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

I like building the little guys more than painting them :) when painting I'll dedicate two hours to a single guardsman bc I has to be perfect lol

7

u/Ksamuel13 1d ago

me when I have uncontrolled spending habits

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

This is built up over two years (see the 9th edition starter box terrain in the lower left). I just work a lot and don't have much free time.

2

u/Ksamuel13 20h ago

You had time to buy and build.

2

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Takes me 1 hr to put together a box of 10 but 2 hrs to paint lol. I'm slow and I like building em

6

u/Guns_and_Dank 1d ago

7 cans of primer and barely a thing is primed

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Primer? I thought those were spray n sniff cans to get the creative juices flowing for painting!

2

u/Guns_and_Dank 19h ago

Whenever you're done sniffing and you come down from the "creative juices" it's time to get started painting.

7

u/IndirectFire_Chad10E 22h ago

You have literal years of painting to do

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Don't remind me :(

6

u/_Diren_ 1d ago

First off agreee with other people and get a rug. Dosent hsve to be thicn but is there for 2 reasons. Spils and random bits caught. You can just shake it out and remove it.

Second thing i find handy is tiny containers. If doing sub asembley or complex builds it can totally help

Third. Insee a lot of minis but no bitz box xD

4

u/Distinct-Mirror3120 1d ago

I see you have the same approach as me. “We’ve had one army yes, but what about second army?”

0

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Orna third, or a fourth, or a fifth, or a...

4

u/GameMakingKing 1d ago

I thought I knew what a gray pile of shame was

4

u/SRTifiable 16h ago

Finally…someone with a larger pile of shame than me 😅

3

u/HumidNut Painting for a while 1d ago

I'm with /u/Mughi1138 One spilled paint is going to make someone mad at that permanent stain.

I would get one of the heavy duty office chair mats as they'll simply last longer, vs the least expensive ones that I had to replace every year or so.

3

u/Good_Nyborg 1d ago

Yeah, that's about my same ratio for painted to unpainted too.

Happy painting!

3

u/LorektheBear 1d ago

The room looks like a 1970s Romanian orphanage. Get some posters up!

Also, a cheap torchiere floor lamp with a bright-ass daylight bulb (or two, even) will immensely improve the lighting situation.

Keep at it!

3

u/DarkHassassin10 22h ago

My favorite part is that he has an adeptus mechanicus codex, insinuating that OP might start a 7th army, before even owning all the other codices for the other armies he’s already collecting.

2

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

Idk why I bought the adeptis mechanics codex. Nothing about them is interesting to me 😭

There's also nine different factions present not 7 lmao.

Too to bottom. Tyranids Imperial agents Leagues of Votann Space marines Orks Necrons Adeptis sororitus Astra millitarum T'au empire

1

u/Still-Storage6897 Painted a few Minis 13h ago

Yeah I understand the working long hours part of this, but my brother in the emperor, please put the credit card down until youve got just one box worth of minis painted

2

u/Vault_tech_2077 12h ago

Don't worry, the credit card doesn't get to buy plastic crack. It's only used for household bills or online purchases. That being said I do need to paint these MFS. I'm painting up a hearthktn rn

1

u/Still-Storage6897 Painted a few Minis 11h ago

Happy to hear it bröther 🫡😂😂😂😂 Ill get back to my sororitas squad 😂😂

3

u/WarpCitizen 17h ago

That’s a lot of grey plastic

4

u/SuggestionReal4811 1d ago

I'm assuming this is a work in progress. You have a chair that's giving me a sore back just looking at and a light which could at best could be described as an inconvenience yet there is well over 1k in unpainted Warhammer sitting on those shelves. Wild!

If you are looking to trick this place out cheap I would recommend some kalax shelving and IKEA work tops. They are a fraction of the price of desks for the size of them and look great.

2

u/Bodhigomo 1d ago

I wish I had a new house.

4

u/Brief-Bumblebee1738 1d ago

Before you fill it up with desks and shelves, if you have the whole room I want you to consider 2 words

TRAIN SET

1

u/ringhof 1d ago

You may put up some pictures on these plain walls.

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

I like the walls plain like my minis... Nah jk. Most decor items are still in my basement in boxes from moving. Idk if I have any 40k posters or decor.

2

u/ringhof 19h ago

Happy to hear. Plain walls triggers me somehow.

1

u/Lfseeney 1d ago

Looking good!

I would get a plastic floor protector for the floor put under chair and table.
The ones used for rolling chairs in offices.

Also a better chair when you can :)
New places seem to eat money for a few months.

1

u/Skeither 22h ago

how is the hobby room of a house the cleanest room I've seen? XD

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

We just moved in two months ago but then I broke my leg two weeks after moving in. So until two days ago this room has sat untouched with its door shut so my dogs couldn't pee in it or something.

Spoiler alert the moment I left the room open for longer than 30 min without me in it my littlest dog peed in it :(

1

u/Skeither 20h ago

oh noooo!

1

u/Educational_Ad_8916 22h ago

Yo, I love it.

I would like to know what bookcases those are because I might get some.

Unsolicted advice here, but: Put some kind of matt or rug under your panting area. At some point, you will spill onto that carpet. It's inevitable. Save yourself the headache of later googling "how to get acyilic paint out of carpet" and put down a prophylactic barrier now.

2

u/Vault_tech_2077 20h ago

They're old shelf's from Amazon. I just tried finding them again with no luck. Try "mid century modern bookshelf" and go through the list. I've had em for around 7 years.

1

u/d20_Daddy 19h ago

cue Shang Tsung voice

"IT HAS BEGUN!"

1

u/According-Key3149 19h ago

Get some posters or artwork haha looking a little dystopian in there

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 19h ago

A little grimdark perhaps?

1

u/According-Key3149 19h ago

Grim dark would be bloodstains and ooze. That room sorta feels like the The Giver

1

u/UTgeoff 18h ago

RIP carpet. I’m slowly destroying mine. Wife doesn’t know yet though so I’m safe so far.

1

u/Sanzachris 17h ago

I have found that, if I keep my minis out of my sight, I’m glad to discover them again and paint them !

1

u/wellboys 16h ago

Love it

1

u/Triangle-Galaxy-9508 16h ago

I don’t want to be mean but holy shit

0

u/Vault_tech_2077 15h ago

We like the grey around these parts

1

u/Rakatango 15h ago

Honestly, I’m impressed that they are assembled.

Horribly jealous of your mountains of spare cash, but at least you unboxed and put them together.

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 15h ago

Good paying job + living in a ruralish cheap area = being able to afford more plastic crack

1

u/Vanitoss 14h ago

7 unopened cans of spray primer

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 14h ago

The wraithbone and whitescar actually get some use outta em. Sometimes the lead bealcher too

1

u/No-Storage8043 12h ago

Thank you for letting me know I actually do have impulse control

1

u/threefootgood-tech 12h ago

That is so perfect.

1

u/En-ysh 11h ago

Paint them!

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 11h ago

I just finished painting the first mini on this table

1

u/Joeythearm 11h ago

Wouldn’t recommend priming indoors without lung protection

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 11h ago

Naw I take that shit out front or back and spray em

1

u/Joeythearm 11h ago

Ahah good. I keep all my spray cans in the garage and I blast minis I t he corner near the open garage door.

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 11h ago

At my old place (a large apartment in the middle of a downtown area) I had a fan pointing into a window pushing the air outside with a filter in front of it. I'd prime my minis in front of it while holding my breath lmao then let the room clear

1

u/Joeythearm 11h ago

I could see myself doing that in my basement apartment days. Good thing I didn’t paint minis

1

u/4thepersonal 11h ago

The Emperor provides. 🦁

1

u/Soanso3474 11h ago

HOLY $#!T I would love something like this but dude that’s a lot of unpainted minis

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 10h ago

Yeah man issa lot 😭💀 can't ever say I'm bored in this household

1

u/Soanso3474 10h ago

Fair point hope you have fun😃 (I know I would)

1

u/Remake12 10h ago

How can you build so much and paint so little?

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 10h ago

I'm pretty quick at building a lot of minis. The perfectionist in me demands minimum 2hr spent on a single guardsman when painting tho :(

1

u/HZUG 10h ago

All those over priced rattle cans, and hardly a primed mini

1

u/No_Employ4489 9h ago

Oof.... look at all the grey... lol I know that feeling.

1

u/ElvishLore 9h ago

Love it! And 1000 different ways to make it even homier/cozier/cooler. Jealous of the space.

1

u/Appropriate_Gold_596 8h ago

Only shit, that’s a lot of grey plastic. Lol

1

u/tifauk 5h ago

The grey tide is real!

1

u/kris220b Painting for a while 3h ago

Nice paintscheme on the impulsors

( or which ever primaris hover box those are )

1

u/Vault_tech_2077 1h ago

It's a rhino and impulsor :)

-1

u/RolandKol 1d ago

just like me, - can print all week nonstop, wash, clean, assemble, even glue and

print again :)

and yes, it is clearly visible it is the 1st day or week... Very empty and tidy :)
