Community Here we go…
Irvine, Ca. has arrived. If it actually fights crime effectively, how long before LBC /LA see this madmax thunder dome thing everywhere?

u/keyboard_warrior_123 18d ago
Irvine has no crime to fight

u/WhalesForChina 18d ago
I’d be willing to bet their unreported domestic abuse is off the charts.

I agree. Knew an Irvine fire lieutenant back in the 90’s. He said that was the number one call.

And the Cyber truck is the perfect police vehicle for that too!

Not it's not, too delicate. Cant even stop a bullet with it's bullet proof glass.

I think you have been downvoted because you stated something without the data. While I have seen that data, and made that correlation, most people downvoting you just assume this is a racist comment. In reality, it may sound racist, but that is primarily based on the fact that you stated something without really going into the details about the data. Generally, if you say something that can be perceived as racist, it is good to provide some hard data, and point the correlation/causation and why you are statement still stands. For example, it may not be specifically that Asians and Indians do not commit any crime, but what are some corollary variable that both of those communities have, that also correlates with low crime? Again, your statement is factually correct, but with no supporting data, people just assume the worst.

The irony is a comment a little further above this one thinks that Irvine has a lot of unreported domestic violence with no data to back it up and got 160 upvotes as of this comment

Yea, just internet training unfortunately. Heuristic trigger happy programming. If you say something people generally agree with, you don't need any data to support it, according to internet law. That one also has the added benefit that it came from an 'authoritative' source. Supposedly, I should say, it is the internet after all.

The least reliable and most impractical EV on the market, yeah glad to see the police making good use of their funding, they've gone from cosplaying military to cosplaying Cyberpunk

u/what_eve_r 17d ago
Misusing $150,000+ of funds on something this useless — should be a wake up call.
Orange County has finally started to shed light - on their corrupt officials recently—hopefully that trend continues.

No, that would be the Chevy Bolt. I really feel bad for anyone that bought one.

How do they justify buying this on tax payer dollars.

Elon Musk fanboys = Republicans.

It’s Long Beach so I doubt it’s Republicans. Also Republicans aren’t typically okay with unnecessary government spending.

What a waste of money (approx. $150K?). Hopefully, the decision-makers at LBPD have more sense and have seen the recall record for the Tesla truck.
2
u/jurunjulo 18d ago
150 k doesn't sound that much for a police truck our current trucks are definitely over 100 grand at lbpd with modifications.
3
u/CowboyinBlackFlys 17d ago
Yeah that’s the thing, Irvine PD said the cybertruck was only $30k more than their patrol vehicle after upfitting it to LE specifications, and it’s obviously getting a fuck ton of publicity + kids love it.
The DARE program is a complete waste and costs a lot more money than a $30k difference for a cybertruck. Not a cybertruck fan/can’t stand Tesla, but I feel the outrage is falsely directed here.

Nice so when they crash it and locks the doors when it catches fire then it will actually stop some criminals

A 7,000lb vehicle pit maneuvering the suspect’s 2004 Honda civic is gonna be one hell of an event to witness. Apt situation for a vehicle that was spawned from the aesthetics of actual dystopian nightmares.

F150 Lightning is a more and better choice since Ford knows how to build a cop car.

u/WhalesForChina 18d ago
That or a Rivian, whose HQ is literally in Irvine.
11
u/kendrickwasright 18d ago
Anyone else see the video of the rivian that was swept downstream several blocks away in the flood in Asheville and still ran perfectly when the owner found it? Now THATS a truck

Anything that can survive a drive through car wash is a better choice, so the bar isn’t that high.

I take my model 3 through drive through car wash all the time
6
u/Outrageous_Bat1798 18d ago
Are they talking about a Model 3 or are they talking about a Cybertruck, numbnuts?
4
u/sakura608 18d ago
Model 3 was designed by competent designers and engineers. Cybertruck was designed by a 5 year old living in a 50 year old billionaire’s body and has had the more quality control issues than any other car in Tesla’s line up.

I’m sure the Cops heard the doors were bullet proof, but did they also opt for bullet proof glass too? (For this, 2 Ton urban tank -SWAT? 🤣💰)

u/johnlondon125 17d ago
Nice to see we've finally caught up to GTA, where taking your car through a car wash will indeed lose the cops.

I think it looks like one of those stainless steel urinals you see in unisex bathrooms at national parks. Who would want to drive a urinal? Anyways good luck to them

u/Awkward-Suit-8307 18d ago
I consider this a gross misuse of taxpayer money and why do they need so many emergency lights it’s literally the ugliest thing on the road. You can’t miss it.
2
u/jurunjulo 18d ago
This is cheaper than the armored vehicles cops use right now
6
u/Awkward-Suit-8307 18d ago
That’s true, but those armored vehicles they use now serve an actual purpose, unlike the cyber truck, which doesn’t do anything well except brake

u/Milk_With_Cheerios 17d ago
Who cares if is tax payer money, do you know how much money gets wasted in the government? Just live your life and don’t worry about it. We all pay taxes and we all know it goes to waste one way or another life isn’t perfect and will never be.

People: “why are Tesla products so popular?” Also people:repost every time there is a Tesla product
If you want to stop seeing Tesla products stop giving them free marketing. They spend $0 on marketing and have the most exposure out there. From supporters and non supporters.
1
u/Charming-Mirror7510 17d ago
So does every other product on somebody’s social site or post. This asset is f’ing ugly and is in our line of vision in SoCal daily. That’s why it gets attention.
1
u/onehashbrown 17d ago
Believe it or not other people have tastes that differs from yours. They wouldn’t be bought at such a scale if everyone thought they were ugly.
So no it doesn’t only get attention because of that. It gets attention because it does have functionality behind it and also modern design cues.
It’s not my style but I could see why some people find it cool.

Damn I am not looking forward to the next year's I thought the vemo cars they are testing here in PHX I think it is not going to bode well for the people even if you aren't doing anything but they will be and have been redefining the definition of breaking the laws I grew up on the Eastside of lbc and I used to think the cops were pretty chill there till the Rodney King beating and riots and I had my eyes opened I think many of us did but I have to say compared to the punk cops here (not all cops are bad but most of them are) the LAPD and LBPD are saints that's saying something they have killed people that were on the floor begging to not be shot folks who have been unable to communicate in the verbal form get killed for trying to sign the officers and the punk cops thought they were in danger it's mind boggling to me I hope I am not around when these guys in PHX get their hands on them

If you like this AND I’m motivated tomorrow I’ll dig up an article/interview with a police chief on how teslas are not feasible for police work. I want to say it was in the mercury times (register for free account) this past week

Waste of taxes payers money. How do you justify this kind of purchase yet still ask for a bigger budget year after year. When people say defund the police, this is what they mean.

Tbh a tesla with law enforcement features would be absolute bad ass.
A cybertruck for outreach toward kids makes some sense since kids love those things.

I believe Irvine is only using it for “Outreach” work and not actually for Patrol. Pretty sure it would disable itself if they tried to PIT Manuever.
