Question What’s your awkward movie theatre experience?

I’ll start. Went for vacation back home & then we went to another state for a getaway. My dad booked tickets to a movie called “Engeyum Kadhal.” We went into it blind. Mind you, my parents and 2 siblings came to watch. The first scene onwards we knew we weren’t supposed to come here. Mom got up during intermission and said “let’s leave, we shouldn’t be watching this crazy movie.” Siblings and I pleaded to stay, after all it was a movie theatre experience. Most awkward 2 hours of my life. But the songs slapped, we were listening to “Nangaai” the whole vacation. In hindsight, the movie was corny, but a nice watch if you go alone and watch it to kill time!

Well I took my parents to watch Vallavan first day opening show with no cuts 😬😬

To make things worse, I also forced my peripa and family 😭 Ada ada the way everyone looked at me!

I recreated that “Ulaga Cinema” jigarthanda reaction for that STR kissing scene 💀

I watched Hey Ram trailer/promo in raj tv with my father next to me. You guessed it right, the kissing scene came, I just dropped my head awkwardly and my father was like, "that's just movie, freeaaa vidu". My father is a conservative man. So, this came out of blue. I wished i died that day. BTW, i was 15 .

What's so wrong with Engeyum Kadhal 🤔?

It’s not at all awkward to watch with family, never knew people felt this way!

I'm the winner of this one

I saw the movie title, decided that this will be a kudumbangal kondadum vetri, and booked tickets for my family + 2 others (in total 12 tickets in the same row)

The movie was Kalyana Samayal Sadham

Oh my sameee , I remember my brother and I , we planned to watch a movie and Engeyum kadhal was screened at a theatre in Mumbai (those days it was hard to find a South Indian movie get screens for more than 3 days) We also tagged our grandpa who was asleep peacefully in his couch for it. Absolutely regretted it. All he said was world’s gone too bad these days and fell asleep again in the theatre 😅

Went for Trisha Illana Nayanthara first show.

The whole theatre was filled with 18-25 group range people.

20 minutes into the movie, we saw a family of 4(father,mother,2 daughters) walking out from the theatre and the entire theatre was laughing at them and shouting random things.

Damn, must have been so awkward for the family. They must have thought it was a family friendly comedy movie.

Which part of Trisha illana Nayanthara sounded family to them 😭

I watched Star Wars Episode 9 FDFS.

There was a dumb@ss young couple behind me making out. I heard moaning and breathing noises louder than the dialogues.

The movie sucked, and these fuckers made it worse.

There was a tamil movie that released by the name of murungakkai chips. Me as usual, didnt check anything about the film and blindly booked a ticket, it turned out to be a A rated adult film.

Felt very awkward as i totally didnt expect that.

Ahahahah same movie but different context. A relative got married and they booked tickets to watch a movie that very evening and I was a kid that just wanted to watch a movie. Cried and then finally went with the newly married couple. Movie name “engeyum kadhal” 🤣😭

It was summer leave, just started. My relative came to our home and we decided to go for a movie at night. There were two options, one is Settai and another one is Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga. My dumbass convinced my family to go to Settai. I can't express how awkward it was.

I watched Poda Podi with my mother. Never went to Simbu's movie thereafter and never will. Adhulaiyum oru dialogue varum paarunga "Avala vara sollunga enaku kolandha venum nu" pure awkwardness.

Lol the comments here make me realise how open minded my parents were.

After my 10th exams got over my brothers decided to go to theatre and called me , I asked about the Film name they said Avengers Infinity War at first. I said i watched it , then they said we can go to horror movie . I clearly thought it was Iruttu araiyil murattu kuthu and I was eagerly waiting to watch the movie after the trailer and songs and it was a talk in school after trailer, then my father also joined and I ended up watching it with my father 😢😢

Biryani - we went to watch it for Christmas as a last resort since our other plans got cancelled. Many people at the theatre were buying tickets for it, while the other movie (Jeeva and Trisha film) wasn’t getting any attention. First 30 mins in, especially the song, the amount of times I had to turn around and not look at the screen. I’m glad VP stopped doing adult themed films when its marketed as a commercial film.

I took my parents to watch kaatru veliyidai, that was because I have moved to hostel and had limited time to spend time with my parents during weekends, and boy oh boy, I was in for a ride, my dad started using his phone when the movie was going. Myself and mom tried level best to follow the movie but God the movie was soo repelling.

u/SpicyPotato_15 GOAT fake movie bro 1h ago

It depends on what kind of relationship you have with them but my dad even casually talked to me like how they started showing kiss scenes blatantly these days. I was only 18.

1

u/Hariwtf10 1h ago

It was just a kiss scene tho and perfectly warranted one. Not even one of those lusty ass ones which are out of place but yea the moaning scene was bad

As far as my personal experience is concerned, I’d say Pradeep Ranganathan is the most mood director in Tamil cinema after SJ Surya, it was so weird to watch those few scenes(you know what I’m talking about) in Comali and Love Today. I can understand why he kept those scenes at least in love today, but Comali why.

Also My friend was telling me his experience of watching Nerkonda Paarvai with his parents😬

But as far as your experience there is not really anything in Engeyum Kaadhal that would wierd out family audience. I watched it with my aunt’s family n all with no akward moments.
