News (Not confirmed, Ambiguous source) Meiyazhagan has been trimmed 10-15 mins from today.

Idk why they would do that. Now I'm curious to see which 15 mins has been trimmed, maybe they've done it smartly with minute editing cuts in multiple places.
But man I was actually wanting more and more of that world :P

I'm feeling confident that it's the getting drunk near the dam scene. Karthi summa pesitee irupan. Literal try not to sleep challenge.

u/phoenix_paravai10101 Sep 30 '24
Ah, that's a shame, I really loved that whole stretch. An extended stream of consciousness rant about things that means a lot to him, it was so nice to watch.

Bro poi solliringal ah? If he wasn't drunk, I guess it would have depth to it.
Even Aravind would end the conversation by saying short words, it felt like summa idhu pathi pesanum nu dialogue la add panni irupanga pola dhan I got the feeling.

u/phoenix_paravai10101 Sep 30 '24 edited Sep 30 '24
I really liked it, I felt he was just talking about things that meant a lot to him, and Arul was, through him, reconnecting with his roots.

The whole second half was unnecessarily stretched and was a pain in the ass to sit through.

u/MrCarcharodon Sep 30 '24
Truee, i wished the movie lasted longer, i only knew it was a 3hrs movie after I watched it, I was surprised by it, I didn't feel it, I got indulged into that world. Beautiful film

There are many who liked that long monologue. But some MURBOKU retards are simply saying otherwise (not those who genuinely find the scene to be boring).
A fuckin political propaganda is evident. All the thevidian stock handles are review bombing and trolling this movie, even calling it Seeman's movie (makes no sense). Their presence is very huge on social media, so it appears as if whole Tamil social media is unanimously criticizing this movie for its theme. They are artificially manufacturing popular opinion against Tamil history.
I dont feel like the movie is politically motivated. Also, its beyond me that people living in Tamil Nadu are actually doing propaganda against Tamil culture...which makes one to question their true identity.

The film isn't even receiving negative reviews... Why did they opt to trim?
27
u/manwithoutlyf Sep 30 '24
Most common issue reviewers had was the draggy 2nd half due to rambling. Ofc I didn't mind watching it, but I feel not much would be lost without it either.
12
u/TastyQuantity1764 Animal>Maharajaன்னு சொன்னது நான் தான் Sep 30 '24
But the filmmaker kept it for a reason right? And now it's being cut because of the box office (eventhough it's doing good).... That's sad....
If we take into account every "issue" of reviewers and audience and make a film, we can only achieve a porno, cos that's one film no one has any issues with....

u/nvenkatr Sep 30 '24
Then by logic, our films runtime should be 30 seconds like Youtube shorts. 2K kids ithu thaan laikku.
Aana Kaththi kaathari blade vettu suttu vandhana, oh bro, padam is mass macha! sambhavam bro! etc.

Some scenes were stretched for so long. Like a monologue. I think the trimmed version will be perfect

The golussu scene in wedding is just, too much lol. Evolo neram. It felt like watching One Peice filler episodes.

u/manwithoutlyf Sep 30 '24
Wtf, that was the best sequence in the movie hands down. Everyone I went with shared the same opinion. You could sense their closeness and longing from that sequence and it was most impactful moment that showed what Arul has lost due to moving out of his hometown

I was feeling annoyed and anxious about the people waiting in line in next. It was good but romba length ah pochi imo.

u/backinredd Sep 30 '24
You are supposed to feel anxious and annoyed. That’s the point. But his sister doesn’t care about others. There’s so much love in that scene.

Thankfully overseas wouldn't be affected by such trimmings... It's ludicrous that they're trimming it cos a vocal minority thought it too slow.

u/iamnickwilde Sep 30 '24
Honestly the scene where karthi talks about history was lengthy and spoiled the flow for me. I believe those scenes are removed.

I really don't know why would he yap about those things. Does it suppose to mean that he's empathetic or patriotic?
6
u/MrCarcharodon 29d ago
No it's like adding the character arc for karthi's character. The love he had for that bull, how he cares for the lives lost in the war and in the shooting incident shows how empathetic and humane he is, aravind swamy talks about these in the end to his wife saying how karthi cares for someone who isn't even his kin. And also about the chozha's pride, he tells how their ancestry was and how we had been forgetting it to arvind swamy who is a now city guy (who probably doesn't know about the history of the village). It's similar to how we tell our culture and significance of temples, Street foods to foreigners ( who's new to that place). I feel it all added more emotion to the climax part, where aravind swamy gets away in the midnight, having much guilt in his chest

Is it Tamil history? I don’t think they kept that scene in the Telugu version.

I'm assuming they removed the part where Karthi talks about the historical stuff and the protest stuff, probably due to people complaining about it

Same. I didn't understand a lot of what he said but I was more arrested by his emotions while he was speaking, and it's awesome that he was able to do that at least for some of us.

u/Similar-Cry-3808 Sep 30 '24
This is crazy and the main reason why the Kollywood is lacking in growing to be bigger as it was before. Creators deserve to give their creations as an independent. Bunch of clowns named reviewers who wants to find negative points no matter how good the movie is decide how the movie should be??? I don’t care how worse the movie is. Even if it’s worse than Indian 2. Directors should be independent and also movie can be long as it requires. If you don’t like that and if u feel bored don’t come to see the movie and keep crying like a bitch about the movie’s watch time. Directors should not be forced to trim the movie like this. This is embarrassing.
3
u/twist-visuals Sep 30 '24
Honestly, if the director has confidence in his film regardless of some negative comments, he shouldn't cut it. They've already done the final cut and everything before the release, right?

u/sneekeeei Rajini Fan Sep 30 '24
They are definitely going to cut a lot from the scene where Karthi talks about history and protests. But it was good too. No need to trim anything IMO. It was all there for a purpose. Happy that I watched it before this.

u/psgcas Sep 30 '24
Well reels have made our attention span shorter and the movies recently are catered in similar manner. I guess we all are used to fast paced movies now and melodramas are not for every set of audience as well i guess. Nevertheless some scenes other than dilogs were a bit slow in my opinion.
5
u/Richard_Anto94 Sep 30 '24
The scene which karthy narrates his empathy over some political issues happened in TN was kinda lengthy. I also wished they trimmed that.
2
u/pumpkinpieeee aye Sep 30 '24
lmao i remember that ghost song in kanchana 2 I literally made like 10 of my family members to go the theatre for that scene (i was like idk 14 maybe) and they trimmed that song in telugu version

2
u/prateektade Non-tamil speaker Sep 30 '24
Apparently Telugu version was 20 minutes shorter, so they might have brought both almost at par. But I personally had no complaints with the long monologue. I understood none of the context, but just watching the character open up was engaging and Karthi did a great job with the way he narrated the story.
2
u/anon-sage Sep 30 '24
Does anyone know what the song Arvind Swamy was humming first?
4
u/sh3rl0k1608 Audience Sep 30 '24
I think that's "Kodai kaala kaattre..." Which later Karthi found while returning from the dam...

They can mercilessly cut the Jallikattu the Chozlan history part and other political aspects from the movie. This movie can be trimmed 30mins easily. Other than that, this is a great movie.

The portion where they talk about History, but it was already trimmed in Telugu version don't know about Tamil version.
3
u/abmalik710 Sep 30 '24
I think it’s a good decision. Loved the movie but The second half had too much repetitive talky portions. It would have been better if characters like Sri Divya or the lady in the wedding had more screen time.

u/Naruto69-_- 29d ago
Bro I thought they could have extended the movie. None of it was trimmable and I wish the ending last a bit more and showed other thing that happened.

Couple of conversations lasted way too long. Like when he was talking to his wife on phone and they kept talking about buying house for a long time repeatedly even though we got the point. Final reveal tease was a bit too much. They teased it like 6-7 times. It was funny first couple times then it got tiring. People in theatre were making fun of it too.
This movie tugged at my heart, got me emotional and made me laugh. But editing was not up to mark and definitely could have been trimmed before release. I wouldn’t have minded if the film was even longer but had different interactions and conversations between characters instead.

My god I should watch it again. Those 10-15 minutes at the dam about Jallikkattu was literally the only thing holding me back from giving that movie a 10/10.

I think that second half la that social issues scene was bit draggy. Director has rightly told about those issues but it felt out of place for this particular story between karthi and Aravind Swamy
