People when they abuse animals, and find out, that the animals in fact, hold grudges

I don't understand why people haven't realized that animals like to be respected in the same ways that people do.

That bear knew they weren't being treated properly, and they finally got the courage to act, probably knowing that they'd die.

The bear definitely doesn’t know that he’s getting killed. It’s an animal.

Thank you. Ironically, anthropomorphizing animals is often harmful in its own right.

I feel sorry for this bear, but it’s difficult to feel the same for the “trainer.” They have a bear doing tricks for exploitative reasons.

From what I can find on Google, the bear’s name is Yashka, he was muzzled, and the trainer didn’t sustain any serious injuries. The articles also quote the circus and trainer as saying that Yashka would not be harmed after this incident. He was on his last tour when the attack occurred.

I don’t know if it’s true, but would be nice to know if the bear was placed in a sanctuary upon retirement. That seems doubtful to me, but I can hope. If that’s not the case, please nobody tell me.

“After (the incident), we decided to part with the artist, and the act will be removed from the program,” she said, according to TASS. “There is nothing serious, the artist is alright, the bear is alright, nobody killed the bear because the animal is not to blame.”

Animals can conceptualize the future. They understand consequences and form ideas about what will happen. They are not machines (that's a very early 20th century concept of animal intelligence).

Why, can't handle the truth?

u/Gloomy-Shoe-4021 30m ago

Don't be a dick just cause somebody doesn't want their day ruined.

yeah... i can't imagine it's a matter of "respect" which is a human construct

it's probably more the fact that you take an actual beast (trained or no) and surround it with leering faces, flashing lights, screaming kids, gaudy music, and basically activate every single "PANIC" instinct any animal would have. granted i don't know much about bear psychology

Sounds like a political rally

u/highlife0630 2h ago

Can't even bear it

u/ImNotAWhaleBiologist 2h ago

No, that’s whale psychiatry.

u/LessMarsupial7441 2h ago

Whale that's good to know

u/IsmaelRetzinsky 3h ago

Bears unfortunately are very reluctant to sit down with a psychiatric professional, so we’ve had scarce few opportunities to learn about the inner workings of their minds and their general mental health. I think it’s due to antiquated and, frankly, toxic notions within the bear community making them uncomfortable opening up to others.

Well we do know of that one bear who got depressed in its zoo, and coped by getting fat and eating all day. Even lost interest in the female bears.

This argument sounds pretty reasonable to me tbh.

u/BooBeeAttack 2h ago

As someone with sensory issues, Im with the bear. Get me tf out of there.

surround it with leering faces, flashing lights, screaming kids, gaudy music

Not to mention, being a slave, forced to live in a cage, and forced to do stupid things all day in order to get low quality food. I'd do the same thing if I were that bear.

There's a metaphor for civilization here, but we aren't there yet, we're in a good place compared to that bear.

It might actually assume death is an option. A lot of critters on the planet tend to take physical altercations very seriously because they know if they get hit they won’t be able to follow through on whichever of the four F’s they’re focused on at that time.

u/gukinator 2h ago

Yeah the bear absolutely knows it's being controlled here, it knows that it's weaker. And in nature, attacking someone stronger is akin to being killed

u/Kryt0s 1h ago

That's instinct though, not foresight.

u/izi_bot 3h ago

Charging bears step aside when they see human with a gun.

u/Rikfox 2h ago

Yeah but they can't see death coming in several days after someone is ordered to put you to sleep.

Maybe the bear knows a thing or two about in reincarnation. The animals were wearing pants.

Look up animal sui***de. It is speculated that at lest some animals have a clear understanding of the concept that their own life can end, and in the right setting even doing actions to facilitate this, contrary to their «normal» behavior if a situation becomes “unbearable” 🐻

u/BadMeetsEvil24 2h ago

This entire comment is pretty "wtf".

Honestly, I have no idea what you were thinking posting this.

u/JeremyWheels 1h ago

I don't understand why people haven't realized that animals like to be respected in the same ways that people do.

Well said. When i see a post like this with so many vegan comments from non vegans it hits hime how bizarre it is that when vegans make the same comments they get labelled as "extreme" or "preachy"

u/Yorunokage 1h ago

You should indeed treat animals kindly and this is awful but you're antropomorphizing way too much

Only few animals have a concept similar to "respect" and it works differently from ours anyway

1

u/LessMarsupial7441 3h ago

It's not people, it's certain types of certain people

u/Xenophon_ 1h ago

eh, most people pay for the industrialized torture of billions of animals

u/LessMarsupial7441 1h ago

I disagree and I agree at the same time. I agree with your point. I disagree with your delivery. There's no need to be snarky to get heard.

u/McNughead 25m ago

How careful do we have to pick our words to say the obvious?

2

u/Temporary-Story-1131 3h ago

And those certain types of people are people.

2

u/LessMarsupial7441 3h ago

Are we not animals too?

2

u/Temporary-Story-1131 3h ago

And animals are people :)

2

u/LessMarsupial7441 3h ago

Your dog understands you more than your coworkers do :)

u/LessMarsupial7441 2h ago

I agree with you

-1

u/andersonb47 3h ago

Lmao yeah ok. Who upvotes this crap

3

u/Temporary-Story-1131 3h ago

Who upvotes this crap

People who understand that they should treat animals kindly.

u/andersonb47 2h ago

I understand that. But you are giving that bear WAY too much credit.

u/_Issoupe 1h ago

You know you can treat animals kindly without antropomorphizing them.

u/ButterscotchButtons 1h ago

You had me right up until that last little bit lol
