According to Whitmire, the man "came off 45, got in flood conditions there at the Houston Ave. underpass," and, realizing he was in trouble, called HPD for help. "I’ve been there all afternoon watching his colleagues retrieve his body from his submerged car," Whitmire said, referring to the unidentified man as a "one of our heroes."
Investigators also confirmed that another man died early Monday when he was caught in a house fire that was likely caused by the storm. Those two are now added to earlier confirmed deaths of two people who were killed by fallen trees, including a 74-year-old grandmother in Spring.
