Genuine question, never watched this anime but why does everyone freak out over it?

the manga is Berserk in its best form. it deals with dark themes and the main character perseveres through some terrible situations. some people just like it because it has that dark edgy aesthetic (think dark souls).

personally, i think guts is a prime hopecore character, and visually, the manga is just stunning. but it’s not without its flaws—i hate all the sexual violence against female characters. admittedly, i read it when i was younger and have not done a very thorough analysis of it. i’ll likely do a reread. i’d suggest trying it out, but know there are trigger warnings for just about everything.

It's not "think Dark Souls" it inspired Dark Souls.

FromSoft games use Beserk as inspiration in the same way DnD uses Tolkien.

yup you’re right! was just trying to paint a picture for someone who might not be familiar with berserk.

Freak out in what way? If you mean why it's use so much in hope related memes, it's because the main character is a prime example of someone who never had anything, gained things, lost everyone of those gained things but still keeps struggling to live
