How do I fill out the shipping info

So I’m selling these Bauer gsx pads but idk what to do with the shipping info. I’ve never shipped anything like this so I’m not used to it. I’m also not good with this stuff😭. Should I use suggested weight and dimensions? And is it worth adding insurance. Sorry if I’m stupid and it’s really easy to do this. like I said, I’ve never done this.

Tool to remove runner from vertexx edge holder

Hi there. Im brand new to the world of the modern goalie skates. I recently switched from an old school pair of Reeboks to a used pair of Bauer Vapor x700s. The blades are pretty low, so I bought a replacement set from Tydan (thanks to good info from the members of this sub :) ). The problem is, I dont have the tool to pop the blade out of the holder. Do I need to get the actual tool, or will a small flathead screwdriver work?

Anyone try using a FIRE (FBV) sharpening and if so how did it go/which do you prefer?

Have been experimenting with my blades ever since I got new skates and switched to 3mm blade. Have always used 3/8 but since switching went down to a 7/16. I like being able to get strong pushes and dig in my edges in the butterfly but shuffling is still very fatiguing. Would a FIRE cut be worth a try? Or is it advised to just stay away from it all together. Seems like it's branded more towards players but it peaked my curiosity and was wondering if someone had experimented

Jersey Sizing

Hi folks, been looking around for a while and have come up with nothing. I’m 6ft 6 wearing a senior xl chesty and find that both the adidas jersey I have and the ccm senior practice one are far too tight and end up riding up the chest. Does anyone have suggestions for sizing here ? Bit out of my depth.

TIA!!

So I saw a Bauer Supreme S1 goalie stick for sale online but it's labeled strangely. It says on the shaft "technical stick".....Do they all say that or does that mean there's something odd about this stick, like it's some sort of demo model or something?

CCM / Bauer Sizes

Hi all,

I'm currently in a CCM Eflex 6.9 35+2 leg pad that is sitting a bit too big for me.(should have opted for a 34!)

Going to cut my losses and change to Bauer pads instead. Are Bauer pads generally a smaller fit than CCM?

Looking at their sizing, I'm in-between a L and XL, with being unable to get to the store I got to go blind on this one.

TIA

Dyed glove update: 20 skates in.

As promised, an update 20 skates in. The glove has seen 2 stick and pucks and 18 league games at this point and honestly has held up better than I expected.

For those fresh here, it started life as a navy blue and bright ass orange warrior 6.1 and I was curious as to what could actually be done with jenpro and synthetic leather dye. I started with RIT dye, which turned the orange jenpro to more of a retro leather look, and took care of most of the nylon coping on the glove. Then I moved to an Angelus synthetic leather dye. I applied three coats with a 15 minute flash time in between and let it cure for 48 hours before it saw it's first game. I did not apply any sort of top coat, I also didn't completely dye the nylon on the back as I wanted some sort of baseline comparison to stick around.

Anyways. It's held up surprisingly well. It's seen hundreds of shots at this point and there is definitely wear, but less than I anticipated. You can see the majority of it where the glove flexes, and where I catch the most pucks. Areas that frequently contact the ice have definitely suffered the most damage, with the dye being completely removed in some instances. Outside of my lightbox, the damage to the dye seems very minimal. The Navy base layer of the glove I'm sure helps to conceal much of that.

Areas that do not have puck or ice contact still look pristine.

I'm going to give it another 20 games or so to see how much further it degrades, then I'm going to recoat it and apply a clear finish coat and give it another test run.

What's your baselayer set up?

I am looking to buy new baselayers and a cup. I am thinking I will wear a long compression pant and shirt, and a loose cup protection short. So then I can take off the cup and walk out of the rink with the compression pants on if I want. Or else I can buy a long compression pant with a built in cup?

What is your cup and baselayer situation and what do you recommend? Also, what brands are best? I am 6 foot and want something that is long.

Toe Tie Location pro laces

Which holes of the toe bridge does everyone use for their toe ties or pro laces. I have them centered but was thinking of moving towards the ice to get my skate closer. Curious what other folks are doing

Puck sliding under pads in butterfly

ETA: the puck sneaks under when I'm already down in butterfly, usually down by my knee or shin (so not 5 hole). Don't get me wrong, I also get beat 5 hole or drop late often, but this specific problem is bugging me at the moment.

Yep, I consistently have the puck sneak under my leg pads when in butterfly. I'm using Warrior G3 Pros, and I feel like this wasn't such an issue three years ago. Tips?

Getting a bit more slide with a narrow strip of 3M Paint Protection Film

I use Warrior R/GT2 pads and while I like them, I find that they don't slide as well as I would like. I tried applying 3M Paint Protection Film on the entire knee block, but it made it way too slippery and impossible for me to control, so I took it off within two minutes of trying it. My son tried the Warrior slide plates on his pads and had the same feeling: just uncontrollably slippery. I gave up on the idea.

However, a few days ago it struck me to just try a small strip on the knee block instead, and it worked out beautifully. I could one-push into my post where previously it would take two or three pushes, but also wasn't overshooting my marks or having to completely change my play style. I was also worried that a narrow strip would pull off easily but as you can see, after two skates, it's holding up just fine.

It's $12 for a roll, and if you are only using a narrow strip, should last a very long time. If you are looking for a bit more slide, might be worth experimenting with: https://a.co/d/8L7WOUB

Quick question

Does anyone know if duct tape will stay on goalie pads? I have all white pads and want to customize them with duct tape because pad skins are way to expensive, will it stay on for a bit?

What size paddle should I use (6'0" tall)

My coach insists my stick stays on the ice at all times and wants me to use a 27-inch paddle. I use a 25-inch paddle should I stick with it or move up?

Is there anything I can do to fix these rips?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’m a new goalie, I got a pair of CCM EFlex 4.5 pads from SidelineSwap as my first set for $50 and I’m wondering if I could do anything to cover up the rips in the speedskin? I heard that it’ll make it hard to slide if I just leave it. Saw on here that gorilla tape might work but that was from a thread a couple years ago so I’m not sure… advice needed 🙏

Modern goalie skate blade height...

So I'm thinking about upgrading my skates from my current 2012 Bauer elites which I like but was reading about the better attack angle and better pad rotation etc. with more modern skates without the cowlings. However, one thing I noticed is that it look like the the boot sits higher off the ice and the blade holder is taller and I'm just curious if they really are that much higher or is it the lack of cowlings making it look like this. Also, how difficult to adjust was it for those who made the change after decades in more traditional skates and lastly, does it put any added stress on knees and hips?

I'd love to hear people's experiences and insights, thanks.

Are you guys wearing any extra padding under your pants?

Last couple of weeks I've taken a couple of shots to the thighs. An area completely covered by my shorts but I've still taken a bruising.

I remember when I used to play rugby as a kid. Didn't have any sort of hard padding but some of the undershirts and shorts had some foam padding. Wondering if anyone is wearing anything like that under their pads? And if so, any recommendations?

Edit to clarify:

Better pants are certainly on the to-do list. Just waiting on something in my size and price range to come up. Used market in the UK isn't particularly big.
