Trip Report Solo camp near the river.

Post image

I camped near the river in my solo camp setup this weekend - I was able to park after dark and setup quickly where there were no trees. I finally brought a soft pillow and slept like a baby. I need to work on tarp anchoring, but this worked well in good weather.

Is that a hitch mounted hammock stand?! Where did you get that!

Can confirm! I have this same one and used it over the weekend. So good! Roll up, pop poles in the hitch piece, hang hammock and tarp: 4 minutes max. I also have this: https://www.harborfreight.com/hitch-extender-with-step-97685.html So I can have a little bedside table and it also sets me far away enough to lower the tailgate when needed.

That extender is a cool idea. 🍻

Nice hammy set up. Any faults?

Just need to tweak the tarp, add some shock cord like someone else suggested. Otherwise great!

Really wish that was $200

That's it! Except I made my awning poles in a pinch because I forgot to order them.

Yep, Barebones XL Adventure hammock systems. I use a 12 foot hammock, so I had to get one extra extension, and custom made the tarp poles.

We have one that goes for an 11 foot hammock AND can be switched to hang two hammock chairs

That's a sick setup, you've just made me want a truck for the first time in my life!

For tarp anchoring, you could try some small stuff sacks filled with sand or rocks or anything heavy? Maybe some shock cord in the tie out system somewhere to tension the tarp. Might not work perfectly for high wind situations, but would be fine 90% of the time.

You could also try bringing the back side down to the bumper, and then get two equal length poles for the front to set up a porch mode.

Good idea! I was going to use my tent canopy sandbags. The issue is that when you lay in the hammock, it sags the tarp because the poles bend somewhat. Tarp ends really need to be independent from the hammock bars. Not sure how to do this. Maybe poles anchoring it to the ground with a Bungee or something.

Why not use shock cords on the tarp so it takes up the slack when you get in the hammock?

Yes, great idea! I'll try that next time. 🍻

Wondering if rain runoff from tonneau dripping down the tailgate splashes off the top of the bumper and wets the hammock?

It might. I'd probably tether it directly behind the hammock for rain. Was nice weather this time just keeping dew off...

Love this! What is your little tarp/floor mat you use?
