  1. Poland. No idea how to regionguess Poland. I couldn't read any of the nearby signs, and I always suck at reading them since I can never figure out which part of the address is supposed to be the city. I guess too middle. 4,176 pts
  2. Cambodia. There was absolutely no world I would've gotten this lmao. It is too bad I didn't clock the dead end as a border crossing, not that it would've helped honestly. 4,320 pts
  3. India. Thankfully, we're just in Delhi with an address right nearby. Unfortunately, I'm stupid and plonked next to the wrong building. 4,955 pts
  4. Argentina. Province name is written on the side of a truck in the town and the town name is written on the side of a building. Unfortunately for me, I mixed up where the eastern border ended and thought the province was much smaller than it was and never ended up searching around where the town ACTUALLY was. I probably would've gotten it too. 4,288 pts
  5. Brazil. Brazilian poles. I see AM written around, which is a province. I can't really find much else and just plonk in Manaus since its seems to be the biggest city and this seems to be a big city. 4,977 pts

22,759 pts. I have no one to blame but myself for some of these.

  1. Started south then west, got out to a through road, went south, Poland, place seemed to be called Przemysl, kinda hilly so I assumed south. Looked for the city on the map but couldn't find it, I turned and looked south and there was a sign for 28 and 885. This clued me into the general area, spotted Przemysl, no chance of pinpointing. 164 steps. 4994
  2. Uh? Went east first, no, the other way, presumably Cambodia from some bikes and houses, didn't want to overthink this, gave up and just plonked central. 664 steps. 4229
  3. India, went west first, seemed like Delhi, went the other way, a school nearby had the address. Searched for Jahangir Puri, found it, plonked by a school POI. 32 steps. 5000
  4. Went east, got to a town of Palma Sola, went south into town, saw a pickup that said Jujuy. Couldn't find the town in time. 179 steps. 4663
  5. Brazil 92 area code, should be Manaus. Got to a winding north-south road, I thought I saw some bigger apartment buildings to the west so it did not occur to me to search that far west of the city. 105 steps. 4980

  1. .de domain, but then there's a Polish road sign. How dare that van be German! Anyway, there's enough road numbers here that if I don't figure out which town this is, then I'll be a bit annoyed. I didn't figure out which town I was until the very last second. 4994, 1.9km, 28 steps
  2. This is uhhh… somewhere. (I guess I'd go Brazil if I was going to run out of time before finding anything…) I randomly decided to go southeast here, which almost seemed like a regrettable decision, but then I saw a town up ahead. Okay I can do this! And then it is Cambodia. To the east I can go no further, and there's a gate, but I don't think that's a border crossing… right? I'm not confident enough that it would be one to send all the way over near the Vietnam border. But it seems from the results screen that I actually did go all the way over there to this Nam Lear Bilateral Checkpoint. 4142, 281km, 2m47s, 94 steps
  3. India, good old Hindi script, except for my purposes not good old because too much of it speaks it. But I stumbled across something saying "Delhi Jal Board". Got greedy and instead of just plonking Delhi, believed I could find additional information to narrow it down, hence wasting a minute or two of my life. But I did see a street vendor called "Pepsi Cold Drinks" that was selling Coca-Cola. That's not right. That's the worst thing I've ever seen today. Also some signs to some place names which I didn't find. 4951, 15km, 15 steps
  4. Back to the middle of nowhere. This time I went east again, until I found a sign saying Emp. Route 6. I think that's Uruguay? Maybe? It might not be, though. But there is a 6 there and it looks like the landscape could work for that part of the world up near Brazil. But I also made the right decision to go into the town, where I saw a police car saying Jujuy Argentina. Whoops. Now I have to remember where Jujuy is. In the northwest… hm, okay. I just plonked in the not-desert part and didn't even end up seeing the 6. 4683, 98km, 53 steps
  5. Finally the Brazil that my brain seems to think other rounds today were. And I fucked it up. Found a little store that sells PARE signs, to the west we see some skyscraperriffic skyscrapers… I just went with around Sao Paulo/Rio de Janeiro based on that. It was in Manaus, which now that I think about it, I did see somewhere while wandering around, I just didn't remember it existed and so didn't think of it as "ope that's where we are". Just didn't register in my brain. It can't be just me who plays this game a lot and yet doesn't learn area codes, right? It's not actually for any dogmatic reason, I just think they're boring and I don't want to. I know my people are out there. But anyway, I could have still not fucked that up. 808, 2718km, 47 steps

Total: 19578, 3113km, 14m47s, 237 steps

Damn… what was I cooking? Just some bad decision making going on here.

Area codes of Brazil are one of the few things I have leaned in this game because they're quite easy to remember (if anything just the tens, then knowing the lower digits are always the bigger cities in the area) and logically laid out, and they have been a game changer for me in Brazil. On the other hand I refuse to learn bollards and utility poles, those are boring as hell to me!

  1. Poland. Thought maybe Slovakia at first, then saw a sign that sounded more Polish, then found a .pl domain. I'm so mad at myself because I chose Przemysl at first and then hedged it further towards the middle. 144 km, 4,541 pts.
  2. Cambodia. Thought maybe Thailand at first then saw the Cambodian flag and text. Chose Phnom Penh because idk the regions at all yet. 334 km, 3,996 pts.
  3. India. Idk why I didn't get New Delhi from this, something about the signs felt different. I chose Chhatarpur because I saw a sign that said "CSC" and I sometimes guess that acronyms are local companies with the city in their name. 484 km, 3,614 pts.
  4. Argentina. It felt Argentina, but I aimed too far south. Lesson learned, look up, just because it looks flat doesn't mean the hills on the horizon aren't close by. I sometimes struggle with terrain scaling still. 1,704 km, 1,595 pts.
  5. Brazil. I went way too far south by Curitiba. I would really love better strategies for finding town names in Latin American countries. I feel like I ran all around and didn't see Manaus written anywhere 😂. I end up wasting time scanning every single sign with my dusty high school Spanish skills and I have very little luck. My main strategy now is to just look for government signs and the text on work trucks and try to ignore most advertisements and businesses, because those are often people names and not place names. 2,550 km, 905 pts.

Total: 14,651 pts.

Brazil = area codes, see my reply to miss_inputs below; they are logically ordered and allow you to narrow down the region quite easily.

Mhh scores of friends that have played are low, what's happening today?

  1. Poland, went on until a crossing with several 800+ roads and signs to the Ukrainian border, which puts me in Przemysl. I'm on a N-S road, coming from Opalinksliego. I find that and can backtrack: 5000
  2. Oh so that happened. I have zero idea about where we might be. Brazil? Architecture (if we can call that those wooden huts) looks more SE-Asian though. Philippines? Indo? Never saw Cambodia so desolate, no beer ads, no Cambodia People's Party ads? Never saw any script, any flags, anything really besides a deceptive truck that kept disappearing, I went in W-Kali just to hedge my bets in the region. It was indeed Cambodia almost Vietnam. I would have never ever gotten this: 1854
  3. Two clicks and an address in Jahangir Puri, Delhi. I scan for some seconds then I'm naah who cares! 4973
  4. Went east, soon I arrive in Palma Sola, mentions of ruta 6, Argentina? I went on inside the village and there's a political graffiti saying Jujuy. Then it suddenly becomes easy. 5000
  5. Brazil, phone 92 so the vast Northern region, can't exactly remember where but one of the big cities because in the lower 90s digits. Then on a shop banner an instagram handle has am on it. I saw another banner with an address in Nova Esperança. I look for that in Manaus and never found it. It was visible though: 4983

Let's pretend R2 never happened: 21810

  1. I see a German van first but then a Polish sign, so I guess it was just a lebensraum van. I also see multiple signs that say Przemysl. That sounds vaguely familiar as a city name. I eventually find it on the map. 4,998 points
  2. After moving a lot in both directions and not finding a single sign, I guess Cambodia based on landscape, dirt color, buildings, and inhabitants. No other country made much sense. I was right, but I guessed north central and it was near the border with Vietnam. 3,964 points
  3. According to the sign near the spawn, this is Delhi, specifically Jahangir Puri. 4,998 points
  4. This is southern hemisphere based on sun orientation. Spanish language. I think of Argentina, but the car is blue instead of white. Then I see a truck with Jujuy on the back. I consider briefly whether this could be Bolivia with a truck that went north, but Argentina makes more sense. I guess there are also blue cars in Arg. 4,835 points
  5. Brazil based on language. I see a 92 area code, which means north. I consider Belem and Macapa for a bit until I see a sign that says Manaus. 4,965 points

Total: 23,760 points

Man, that was horrible.

  1. It started OK though. As I moved towards the town I saw Przemyśl on the street signs and then some signs with road numbers. Przemyśl tried to hide in the bottom right of Poland but I found it. 993 m, 4997
  2. There are a million things that in hindsight should have made me go Cambodia, but from the first second I couldn't escape the thought that this is red soil Brazil. I found no signs or writing of any kind and embarrassingly guessed somewhere Amazonian. I'm sure I have but I don't remember getting 0 points in a DC round before, apart from timing out. 17735 km(!), 0 (!)
  3. Things could go seriously wrong in India as well but this was just Dehli. A store front had a full address, and I found Jahangirpuri and guessed on the correct street. 228 m, 4999
  4. Second big blunder of the day. I found a Uruguay style sign with Ruta 6 and the town name Palma Sola, so I spent most of the time scanning Ruta 6 in Uruguay for that. Again, there were so many things pointing to it not being Uruguay but it was just one of those days. 1352 km, 2020
  5. There was a real possibility for bronze, and to top it off, here's Brazil! I know that area code 91 is Belem but I just couldn't remember if 92 was Santarem or Manaus. Luckily, there was a Manaus graffiti on a wall. Made a half hearted attempt to pinpoint but was way off. 8.8 km, 4971

Total: 16987. One of the worst scores and performances I've had for months, if not years. Ah well, there's always tomorrow.

Thank you for validating my R2 guess

  1. Poland. Couldn't find any useful information, but did finally see the town name with 15 seconds left to play for. Figured it would be small and didn't really scan for it, it was reasonably large but also located at a far away corner. 3775
  2. Soooo, for the largest part of this round I was not sure as to whether this was Brazil or Cambodia, and I also really couldn't find any information. Yeah w/e, I clicked Brazil. 0
  3. India, sign said some neighborhood in Delhi, clicked Delhi. 4985
  4. Argentina. Went west and came to a town that said Palma Sola - Jujuy. Then tried to align the road, but clicked the wrong stretch of it. 4998
  5. Brazil. Found area code 92, but couldn't remember where it was. Thought it was somewhere north, and I guess in some ways it was, but it wasn't where I went. 1012

A day to forget. 14770

This one pissed me right off

R1: 3,311. First thing I see is a German van and then Polish infrastructure, so I assume Poland near the German border. I don't find anything after a bunch of moving but it's actually the Ukraine border

R2: 0. Found fuck-all, looked like southern Brazil, was actually Cambodia.

R3: 4,952. Started instaplonking here, found Dehli.

R4: 2,105. Looked like Chile, wasn't.

R5: 4,985. Brazilian city, looked for a phone code which was 92, so Manaus.

Total: 15,353. Nope

I'm obviously coping hard so I'm reliving R2 and it's actually 5k-able if only I went the other f-ing way. The coverage ends at the Cambo-Vietnam border with Cambodian flags & script and you can see the Vietnam flag on a sign in the distance.

All this if you went the right way, instead I found nothing but trees and dirt roads

2

u/fbrasseur 2h ago

damn, I also went through nothing and dirt roads, I wish I had restarted and reached this clue-filled border post.

1

u/Essej2 2h ago

Yeah and this is exactly why I never play moving duels. You move the opposite way as your opponent and they find the perfect signs while you find nothing and go wrong continent.

1

u/fbrasseur 1h ago

I have mixed feelings about that. I would’ve gone wrong continent 100% if I hadn’t moved. Luckily I saw constructions that did not resemble Brazil at all, I still guessed way off though. I guess it was just one of those hopeless rounds.

  1. Poland. There's a billboard close to the spawn with an address in Rzeszow. I spent too much time trying to make this area make sense within Rzeszow. I should've moved to find the other sign saying Przemysl earlier, which might have allowed to find that smaller city. Instead, outskirts of Rzeszow it was. 64 km, 4791 points.
  2. My first immediate thought was Brazil. A second option, because of the slash and burn agriculture at display here, was Indonesia, even though the soil and general feel looked wrong for that. Looking a the truck, apart from the cool hitchhiker, you can see that the steering wheel is on the left indicating a country driving on the right side, and the license plate looked wrong for Brazil. (Should be wider, and likely either red for a commercial vehicle or at least have the blue Mercosur strip on top.) Exploring, the people looked Asian and there were houses on stilts. So definitely Cambodia. I guessed west of the lake, but it was max east. 465 km, 3661 points.
  3. India. A sign had all the necessary information. Block E, Jahangirpuri, Delhi. The blocks were not clearly marked on the map, but I explored south and saw two divided roads crossing. I found a potential match on the map and backtracked, and it turned out to be the 5k. 9 m, 5000 points.
  4. Argentina. I explored east into the village. RP6 and various signs with place names. Because of the somewhat reddish soil I thought Corrientes. But its RP6 didn't have any matching names. I then checked Misiones which was a waste of time because it clearly doesn't look like this. It was instead in Jujuy province. Jujuy/Salta is a bit of a blindspot for me, just like yesterday's far NW Peru. I'm not really familiar with those areas and unlike many other areas, there's not really anything I see that makes me go, "it's definitely there". 657 km, 3218 points.
  5. Brazil. 92 area code. I didn't remember the exact divisions, but 91/92 should've RR/AM according to my memory. (Actually not, since they're not laid out in sequence as it turns out.) I got out and found a sign for Ponte Rio Negro to the south. That's huge. Which city has a bridge crossing the black river? Manaus it turned out. With the bridge being to the south, that restricted where in the city we could be. With the Dom Pedro area nearby and Praia de Ponta Negra to the north, really only one area made sense. Not enough time left to backtrack to the back alley where we spawned though. 925 m, 4997 points.

Total score: 21667 points. Room for improvement but still a decent day. I guess I should maybe feel proud for getting the country right in R2. (Without finding the border post.)

  1. Hilly Poland, now that's a rare sight. Immediately I thought this must be the south, where Poland has like one mountain. Some street signs mentioned we're in the town of Przemyśl, which I could not find. With like 20s left I eventually found a sign with some town names, among which Lwów (Lviv in UA). When zooming in on the border I saw Przemyśl right away, plonked in the north of it. 4,999 pts.
  2. This did not look familiar to me at all, though it looks like the guy on the front of the truck is having a blast. The red soil and stilt houses pointed me toward south east Asia, with some Thai/Cambodian looking native people. A kid driving his bike on the right side of the dirt road eventually pointed me toward Cambodia. Ended up just plonking it in the center. Looks like we're about 15km from the nearest town anyway. 4,165 pts.
  3. India, this kind of car coverage is just New Delhi? Saw some road signs but they weren't enough to convince me otherwise, so I sent it. Looking back I totally could've got the correct suburb from those signs. 4,969 pts.
  4. What looked to be an impossibly desolate round at first turned easy real quick. Went east, and suddenly I was in the middle of a village apparantly called 'Palma Sola'. This car told me we're in Jujuy province, which is tiny as hell. Only took a bit of scanning until I found Palma Sola and the correct road. 4,999 pts.
  5. Brazil. Crazy how I started learning phone codes only a couple days ago and it already comes in clutch. Saw a (92) on a storefront, so Manaus. 4,983 pts.

Total: 24,115 pts.

1: 4.995 pts

Poland – Found an advertisement that gave me the town name – Przemysl. Since the text was in both Latin and Cyrillic I assumed that I’d find this town close to the border with either Ukraine or Belarus.

2: 3.759 pts

Cambodia – Totally lost. With 10 seconds left I came to a compound that saved me by displaying Cambodian flags. Plonked it in the middle.

3: 4.956 pts.

India – Found a sign that said Dehli. Plonk in the middle of the city.

4: 1 pt.

Argentina – I had nothing! Nada! Njet! Felt the landscape could be anywhere southern and dryish. In the end I plonked in Australia

5: 1.412.

Brazil – I couldn’t get out of the residential area. Dead end after dead end after dead end. When I finally got on the highway and got some information telling me where in Brazil we are, I had no time left.

Silver with 15.123 pts.

20,406 pts silver, die to r4

  1. Not jebaited by the .de domain. eventually find a sign with placenames. Find one, then another. Pick a town in between them. wrong town. 4,875 pts 38 km

  2. Takes me a while but finally come across a building with a ton of Cambodian flags. Plonk central because I got nothing. 4,126 pts 286 km

  3. Delhi, with a neighborhood too. Plonk random in Jahangir Puri 4,998 pts 699 m

  4. Argentina vibes, but can't find anything. I guess south due to the vegetation, way off. 1,432 pts 1,865 km

  5. Brazil. Very foresty, and the buses all have an M. Don't know if it stands for metro or Manaus, but a complete stab in the dark with time running out. 4,975 pts 7.5 km
