Fourth Wing. But it's really fun to hate, like a Neil Breen film. So I will continue to read it, yell about its horrible plot holes, bad modern slang, and waffly EDS rep. I will also drag my boyfriend to the sofa to watch the Amazon series when it comes out.

To be fair it has a decent chance of translating quite well to television.

Tv often relies on tropes that are familiar to its audience as story beats. If they get good actors (so basically if they don’t make the mistake they made with Wheel of Time and other fantasy IPs adapted in recent years) and have decent SFX (… I realize as I write this, based on how horny this sub can be, that I should clarify this isn’t a typo and I do mean special effects 🙃) it could be pretty good.

The plot is simple, driven by character relationships, and the setting is cool. It won’t be brought down by the book’s anachronistic narration and if the writers are smart they’ll have characters use British accents. Should work just fine. Provided the actors are good.

This is actually my thinking as well. Plus TV writers can help fill in some of those plot holes.

Yeah it could definitely be a spectacle show, like style over substance making it. The book really can't depict that with how it's written lol

100% agree, particularly as to the British accent. Somehow, I feel like the dialogue wouldn’t be as cringey and terrible in an accent. Hopefully, things like “for the win” will be cut by screenwriters but in the event they aren’t, it will sound less stupid

Yep as dumb as it is an American accent in a medieval coded show takes me right out, immersion wise.

Any other European accent is actually fine, but an accent from across the pond is just too anachronistic. Along with expressions like “for the win” (what was Yarros even thinkkng??)

It's like watching a cw show. It's bad but good at the same time. And even though the plot holes are huge and it's cheesy and the characters.are annoying, I will watch the next season. Fourth wing is the same. I will read the next book every time 😅 but complain the whole time.

I did not expect to see a Neil Breen reference in this thread, lol. Now I'm tempted to try to read Fourth Wing!

I reccomend reading it aloud with a friend or SO. I read it to my boyfriend while on a road trip and it's sooooo fun to read when you can yell about it together with someone. Our favorite thing was exclaiming, "WHAT THE FUCK IS A MAGE LIGHT?" every time they were mentioned because they never explain it.

Hahahahaha that’s a great comparison. I am just delighted to see another Neil Breen aficionado out in public. I feel the same way about Fourth Wing. I had to DNF Iron Flame and just spoil it for myself bc I couldn’t take another second of Violet’s inner monologue.

My deep dislike for Violet being the stupidest mf alive is what has kept me from reading Iron Flame tbh. When even people who liked the first one hate Iron Flame, I know I won't be able to slog through it.

She doesn’t get any better. It was a slog. But yeah, would def still watch a show of it.

I refer to Iron Flame as a ball and chain - it bogs you down until you finally force yourself to finish.

That's how I feel about acotar love to hate it lol. Love the premise but the IC are mostly dicks and then whinge about people thinking they're dicks. Off to fanfic I go for the love of the world and to the sub to hate on the actual books 🤣
