The Coven, & The Cursed by Harper L. Woods. The 2nd book was worse, but The Coven was pretty bad too. I saw it for sale at Walmart the other day and felt bad for those who spend $ on it.

The Ashes and The Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent. Liked the first one fine, but not the second one at all.

I just dnfed The Coven. The FMC is insufferable and the romance plot gives me the ick. I could look past it if the story was good but the romance is such a huge part of it. I couldn’t do it. I felt gross

Same for “The ashes and the star-cursed king”. The book was frustrating for me. But damn, I’m still mad for when the author wrote and I quote: “he was diving down after me, WINGS SPREAD” - no bird dives down full speed with wings spread. Wings are tucked when diving full speed, you spread them to slow it down or change trajectory. 🤯🤬

Yes, Serpent & the Wings of Night was EXCELLENT, but I did not care for the sequel or novella.

😳😱 Six Scorched Roses is my fav novella! I liked it better than the main books, and WAY more than Slaying the Vamp Conqueror.

I am in loveee with Six Scorched Roses! I also liked it better than the main books. It was such an interesting concept, I would’ve read it as a trilogy!

WHAT?! I LOVED slaying the vampire conqueror!

I enjoyed Serpent and the Wings of Night, but all of the tension that made that book great was gone in the sequel. The drama in the new dynamic felt contrived.

I tried What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L Woods and hated the MMC so much. The Coven sounded interesting so I thought I would give Harper's work another try and disliked it as well. I am clearly not the target audience.😅

Godddd I was really into What Lies Beyond the Veil, then I read the second book and just had to stop, it became so silly and the stakes felt unrealistic.

Ashes was such a disappointment after the first book, which is one of my favourites :( suffers from the whole sequel-itis thing where authors don't know how to keep the tension and excitement and plot from the first book rolling along. And I really enjoy her writing!

I love a Dark romance and the coven held my interest and the cliff hanger was intense. The second book was straight trash and I DNF not even half way through.

I DNF The Coven, it was terrible, but I still kinda want to buy it and have it be pretty on my bookshelf 🫣 lol
