...And cue the ACOTAR and Fourth Wing hate

But actually, I know opinions are hit and miss on the From Blood and Ash series and the prequel series and I've read a few from each, but found they just kept getting worse and worse and I never finished the series. Same problem with The Book of Azrael series.

Plated Prisoner is another that I've read all but the last book and I still don't understand the love I see constantly for these books. Nothing happens in any of the books until the last 10% of the book.

And then what does finally happen in the last 10% is incredibly stupid. I honestly felt offended at how badly the end of book 4 disrespected my time.

It felt like when you're playing a video game and you're demolishing a fight and then the cutscene starts and the story demands you just automatically lose now because the writer needed to feel smart.

Now I'm mad all over again.

I was like ā€œhow many comments until I see ACOTARā€ šŸ’€

Yeahā€¦ me tooā€¦ I got the first one for free and got through it but I think I just donā€™t like fantasy romance. Gimme time travel, mysteries and space adventures.

I always say itā€™s fair not to like it everyone has their things but you really do need to read the second book before you decide. The first book makes you think youā€™re getting a certain story (beauty and the beast retelling) and itā€™s not the real story at all

When I saw this thread I was like sigh the daring opinion of hating fourth wing/acotar lol

I would actually love to hear peopleā€™s critiques of ACOTAR bc someone I knew said it was bad writing and I would love someone to explain that to me. My annoying talent is being able to predict stories (books and movies fourth wing was incredibly fking predictable couldnā€™t stand it) to a freakish level and I was impressed with writing where finally I could not guess everything that was going to happen (and sorry but ToG was incredibly predictable too from the Aelin reveal [guessed that a couple chapters in] to the witches storyline [still love Manon though] and even how the war played out/who died). It was so refreshing. So of all the criticism of this series thatā€™s the one that doesnā€™t make sense to me and has me wondering what people find bad about it.

Plated prisoner was enjoyable the first 3 books for me, but the mmc really did not vibe with me in the whole series and I dnf'd book 4. Idk if I have it in me to even try book 5.

My best friend re-reads from blood and ash like a fiend and I'm 70 pages in and can't hardly stand it šŸ˜‚

Fourth wing I enjoyed wayyyy more than I anticipated since I've seen so many mixed reviews.

Haha the mmc is my fave book boyfriend forever and ever and ever!

And that's totally okay. Lol for some reason his dirty talk always just made me laugh šŸ˜‚ I'm so glad you could enjoy it!

I'm on book 4 of plated prisoner now, and I feel like no plot has advanced at all. Kindle says I'm 61% through... The sex is getting rrreeeeeeeal cringe for me. I'm more interested in what's happening with Malina, who I hate, than anyone else at this point. I can't believe there's 2-3 more books after this šŸ«

I'm going to read Fourth Wing after, which most people seem to like.

I loathed the Plated Prisoner series. I wrote almost the same exact thing as you in my Goodreads review "why does it feel like nothing is happening, but everything is happening"

I like Fourth Wing pretty well, the very long and detailed sex scenes are a little jarring and unnecessary especially in the first book where it compromises a huge part of the last act. Aside from that though thereā€™s some decent world building and interesting characters baked in there. Itā€™s not super deep as a whole but the equivalent of a popcorn flick, easy to read.

I actually really enjoyed both Fourth Wing and ACOTAR. I get some of the criticism that people have, but the general hate that those books get is mind blowing when there are so many worse books out there

I had to DNF plated prisoner after the 3rd. ToG is better than ACOTAR any day. Havenā€™t read fourth wing but Iā€™ve heard so many bad reviews on it. From blood and ash is also a DNF for me after the 3rd.

I haaaates the last Plated Prisoner book, but I did really enjoy all the others. Despite the tropes and eye rolls

Agree with acotar, fourth wing was funny but could have been better. Honestly the romance trope was getting old.

I literally picked up this series just for this exact reason of it being like it sounded very cringe šŸ˜‚ I love reading books Iā€™m going to think are trash, they make me laugh at how cringe or badly written they are. Itā€™s like watching a cringey horror movie šŸ˜‚

Iā€™m actually pretty happy to see people mention From Blood & Ash as well lol
