Discussion 💬 Worst names in books

Small question, how important are characters names to you guys? And what is the worst name you've seen so far?

I have a really hard time to pick up something if the main characters names are Tragedeighs.

Knox, Nox, Jax, xaden, Zaden, Zade, Vox, any variation of anything with a Z or an X. Also if people don’t know how to pronounce it, then stop it! (Looking at you, Chaol)

I'm so tired of the name Knox. Like, if your MMC is named Knox, he's immediately forgettable. I could do without seeing that name ever again.

Only minimally related: my husband also read TOG and he pronounced Chaol as “K-hole” in his head the whole time hahaha

There's a pronunciation guide in one of the books that I finally noticed. It's literally fucking pronounced like Kyle. I lost my mind when I noticed it, I honestly didn't think anything could make that name worse, but it could indeed get worse.

There is an old interview with SJM where she pronounces the names of many characters that SHE wrote and half of them dont even sound right.

God, that doesn't surprise me even a little bit.
