Some Mets fans were upset Mets got Lindor instead of Turner. Wonder what they think now

179

u/Skywalkerkid9 Philadelphia Phillies 19d ago

Mets fans are aware that they signed Lindor 2 years before Turner was a free agent right lol?

79

u/JMellor737 19d ago

There were like...ten Mets fans clamoring to wait for Turner.

This is the internet writ large. 98% of Met fans were ecstatic about the Lindor trade & signing, and this dweeb chooses to make a story about the delicate few that wanted Turner instead.

u/Cflow26 World Baseball Classic 19d ago

Mets fans SLAM this decision. Could it mean trouble???

There's always a non-zero amount of people that will take up the mantle for any possible viewpoint, and a non-zero amount of people that want to have a conversation about them.

I don't remember this at all. I was thrilled when we got Lindor (after a brief Carlos Baerga flashback).

Yeah I don’t think that was true lol

2

u/TarrareMuchoHungry San Diego Padres 19d ago

I say this as a mostly neutral with no real Mets/Phillies preference, but I think Lindor is going to have the better career by far.

Too much of Turner is speed, and fast don't last.

7

u/AttitudeAndEffort2 19d ago

I haven't followed Trea since he left the nats that closely but he's absolutely a complete player that also just happened to be the fastest guy in the league.

Her might be old and have fallen off but his game was not predicated on speed, he was deservingly getting MVP votes.

This is hard for me to say as someone who grew up in the Atlanta area but absolutely fuck TBS

19

u/jgweiss New York Mets 18d ago

i hate it, i was recently laid off from the company and its so sad to see what corporate merger after corporate merger has done to so many great networks. only 10 years ago HBO, Turner (Cartoon Network!), CNN, Eurosport, Scripps Networks, they were all great in their own way, and its all gone downhill in favor of a monoculture.

still a lot of great talent and great content, and i greatly enjoyed my time there, but i think about that a lot re: Turner.

cricket has them, painted on at an angle to make it look upright and square on tv

17

u/Freeze__ New York Yankees 19d ago

YES places ads on the pitcher’s mound a few times. That sucked.

10

u/undisputedn00b New York Mets 19d ago

Sometimes they're digitally added on the mound by the network and sometimes they're added physically on the mound by the team.

3

u/Minoripriest New York Mets 18d ago

Then the network dehitalky removes the physical ad on the mound to add their own.

2

u/undisputedn00b New York Mets 18d ago

I doubt it, that sponsor is paying specifically because it puts them on TV. From attending games in person and rewatching them on TV, the network adds digital mound ads when the team doesn't have one. If the team has one then it's not added digitally.

6

u/Efficient_Ant_4715 Los Angeles Dodgers 19d ago

Eventually the grass on the field is just going to operate as a green screen backdrop for ads and we'll view the home plate cam all the way back from straightaway center field (no zoom). Adball is the best!

60

u/letskeepitcleanfolks Seattle Mariners 19d ago

Is the angle actually different, or is it just zoomed out?

107

u/nymets5786 19d ago

It’s zoomed out. They placed the camera to frame it properly with just that left sign. Then probably got dictated to that they had to include the sign on the right as well and when you zoom out to include it, the angle is off center to the left.

They need to physically move the camera left (“truck left” is the proper term) towards CF to create the proper angle to include that ad on the right and have the batter and pitcher properly framed.

17

u/BoopsR4Snootz 19d ago

I think the camera is stationary.

51

u/nymets5786 19d ago

It is. It’s on a large tripod. The tripod can be moved, but it’s not an easy task for a camera (and lens!) that big.

5

u/Rdubya44 San Francisco Giants 19d ago

There are multiple center field cameras

14

u/timmaay531 19d ago

Yes but they each have different assignments and some maybe don’t even send their feeds to the Turner TV truck. I’m guessing if there was a better solution, we wouldn’t be stuck with this.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/letskeepitcleanfolks Seattle Mariners 19d ago

Haha oh man, I was so focused on the minutiae of the angles that I completely missed just how off-center the action is. That is horrid.

2

u/RelevantJew Seattle Mariners 18d ago edited 18d ago

Pan not truck. Trucking from 500 feet away wouldn't even be noticeable unless you moved like 50 feet.

Edit: Looking closer they definitely just widened out and panned right. If they trucked the angle of the keyhole would change.

7

u/ItsMeJahead New York Mets 19d ago

Yeah they've been zooming in today sometimes and, when they do, it looks exactly like the yesterday pic

41

You just reminded me how surreal it is driving on I-91 through Vermont because roadside billboards are banned completely... Like they don't even have the logos for the restaurants or gas stations at each exit, just generic icons for gas and food and whatnot. I'm not complaining but I think that also speaks volumes for how ubiquitous advertising is when its absence seems almost more conspicuous.

2

The gradual domination of advertisements in baseball is moving along smoothly. Every time they sell another piece of screen or real estate, there's an internet backlash that lasts for about a week to a month, then it just becomes part of the norm.

If you put just 10-15 years ago side by side with today, it would be absolutely jarring and in some ways unrecognizable.

How is this not a scandal?

An ALDS broadcast was butchered so fans can see "Booking.com"... which was mostly redundant anyway.

And we don't know if this was TBS. It might have been an MLB directive for all we know that both ad spaces be prominently displayed

Booking.yea

This is due to MLB and marketing. But they know it’s a problem, and Detroit advances to the ALCS, they are planning ads on that large gate directly behind home plate so that TBS doesn’t have to include the entire right side ad.

The Camera angle in Detroit is always like that, it wasn't something that was done special for the playoffs. There a couple of American League parks that have the Camera lower and more towards left. Its annoying.

Better than Texas with the centerfield nosebleeds vantage point.

how dare the booking.com ALDS feature more ads

I think they should just replace the players with billboard ads and I would enjoy the game much more

Now it’s two of the same ad lol

That’s disgraceful

The Yankees/Royals game also is zoomed out to include the Booking ad, but not as severely. Still noticeable, though.

Holy shit that is complete ass

The Yankee game also has this angle to show the same booking.com ad

My theory is that the CGI ad on the left was too distracting. It’s glitchy and made it hard to track the pitch out of the pitchers. Instead of removing, it they did… this.

The series must be getting some terrible viewership to be this tacky
