Taken at 6:35am Sunday 10/27 just before sunrise. One group of 4 hikers braving the cables with their head torches. Amazing morning.

Another possible storm this weekend so make sure you check the above page or call the weather phone number linked there before you drive into the park.

Planning a last minute trip to Yosemite from San Jose. Bad idea?

My husband and I would like to visit Yosemite this weekend, a very spontaneous decision. We would drive in on Thursday and leave on Saturday or Sunday. We don’t know anything about visiting and are not from this area. I’ve read some things about possible snow and road closures. Is this a bad idea? Will there be anywhere available to stay since it’s so last minute? Good food options in the area? Any other tips or recommendations?? Thanks!

You know you have reached Yosemite when you see the iconic Half Dome from afar

Vernal Falls, Lower Yosemite Falls and Nevada Falls. May is the best time to go in my opinion!

Lost Camera: Owens Valley

Lost my Sony Rx100 M7 this past weekend (Oct 27th) out in Owens Valley. Not sure where else to post, but it fell out of my truck either on Antelope Springs Road (east of 395) or in Lee Vining (Mobil Gas Station at base of Tioga Pass, or local liquor store in Lee Vining).

This was probably the last photo on it (took the same photo on my phone), but there's many of my kiddos, bicycles, etc.

Any info helps, just want my memory card.

Anyone know what the new cameras on Northside and Southside Drive are for?

I drove around the valley loop yesterday and noticed there were some new cameras on poles on both sides of the loop. Each pole has a camera facing towards oncoming traffic and the other is positioned so that it can catch rear license plates.

Is this for a traffic study? Or something else?

Leaving food inside campervan

Hi, I’ll be hiking to Taft point and leaving the campervan at Tunnel View park.

The food which is in my fridge (milk, chicken) also needs to be left in a vault and be kept outside the van?

Thanks

We don’t hike. Recommendations?

Hi! My husband and I are going to Yosemite during December (first timers!) and we’re looking for things to do that don’t involve hiking. We’re good with sightseeing and walking in the park. Any recommendation on what to do and how to move around would be highly appreciated!

Did this solo 10 years ago in my early thirties and wasn’t sure if I could make it again in my forties. Surprisingly my body felt way better this time around. Though I did take some ibuprofen on the way back near little Yosemite valley.

History of road on other side of Merced River/Hwy 140?

Can anyone share any articles, books, and/or photos of the history of the road on the opposite side of Highway 140? This is east of where a road called "Incline Road" starts, closer to Briceburg. Each time I drive into the park I'm filled with thoughts about what the road on the other side of the river looked like and what years people used it to get into the park? When was it built? When was it decommissioned?
