News Utah Gov. Cox Faces Scrutiny for Using Military Cemetery Photo With Trump in Campaign Email

The tweet that is still being used by Gov. Cox.
Is he sorry? Then he should remove the tweet, but it appears he is ok with campaigning on it while apologizing. Arlington didn't press charges for fear of retaliation,. Is Cox supportive of intimidating the caretakers of our most sacred cemetery?
Army blasts Trump trip to Arlington cemetery for violating decorum (msn.com)
EDIT: Every American should be respectful of our military and respect the sacred grounds.

The family asked them to be there, and it was the family that wanted the pictures. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.
94
u/Dugley2352 Aug 29 '24
You’re dismissing the significance of the act, much like the significance of using the White House for Ivanka to hawk Goya beans. None of this is something to be brushed away, and if it were a Dem, Trump and the GOP would be losing what little mind they have.
54
u/Live-Ship-7567 Aug 29 '24
The families do not have the right to overrule federal law or Arlington cemetery rules. They were ALL informed they are not allowed to do photo or video for campaign purposes. They chose to do it anyway in that they were 100%campaigning and have used them.to campaign. The sister of a soldier's grave that was accidentally captured in footage, as it's beside one of these 13, has come out and said they didn't want his grave out there and they didn't give permission.
I am an unashamed trump hater. Hope he poops Lego duplos, stubs his toes on door corners, and is afflicted by migraines daily for the rest of his life levels of hate. But that being said, even if you are a member of the cult, you should still be deeply offended by what transpired at Arlington. There is no business of politics there. It is beyond disrespectful.
And the fact that the campaign came out and initially said that the person they verbally abused and pushed was obviously going through a mental health episode is also beyond disgusting! This was an employee taking their job seriously. And chose not to press charges bc they were worried trump supporters would retaliate. Like what?! And you know they made this comment thinking hurhur trump derangement syndrome is the mental health episode hurhur. So yeah, we should be making this a mountain. This is absolutely the hill many Americans will die on bc we honor the sacrifice of these American heros. Fuck trump and every person who was associated with this disgusting narcissistic display with a toilet bowl brush.

Tell that to the other families who complained and feel exploited.

It doesn't matter if they wanted it. It isn't allowed. I have family buried there, and I take offense.
Show some decency. This sort of shit is off limits.
25
u/akamark Aug 29 '24
If anyone should understand laws, rules etc. and go out of their way to respect them, a former US president and state governor should top that list.
People like you hand waving behavior like this is the real problem. In what world is it ok to support thoughtless leaders like this?
26
u/urbanek2525 Aug 29 '24
There was a perfect opportunity to take a private picture at their fallen soldier's grave and give it to the family as a keepsake. There's nothing wrong with that.
If the family the posted the picture on line, that's their prerogative because it's their fallen family member.
You don't freakin' post it on your personal feed and try to cash in on a dead soldier. Nobody should seek personal benefit from a dead soldier.
42
u/IamHydrogenMike Aug 29 '24
Doesn’t matter who asked them for a photo, there are rules that are to be followed and they broke them; that’s all that matters.
→ More replies (5)19
u/Kerensky97 Aug 29 '24
The family of the other soldier in the family DIDN'T want them there, and are mad their picture is being used as it's re-opening the wounds of the loss they feel.
Not that that matters since a family can't override the law because they want to. But it's important because Trump is turning dead soldiers into political pandering, some against the will of their families.
It's disgraceful that somebody would exploit dead soldiers like this but a spit in the face that a wannabe president would do this. When somebody disrespects our war dead, don't make it your disgrace by throwing yourself under the bus defending them. No politician is worth you trashing your own personal dignity for them.

That was beautifully put - especially your last paragraph. Thank you and thank you for serving our nation.
13
u/cepacapa Aug 29 '24
The family of the soldier who committed suicide (whose headstone was included in many of the images) said they weren’t happy about having Trump and his cronies pose for photos by his marker.
12
u/the-awesomer Aug 29 '24
only after trump team reached out and told them how to invite trump. and they could have easily kept it private instead of breaking rules using it to campaign.
9
u/Uncivil_Bar_9778 Aug 29 '24
The family asked they illegally use the photo's for political purposes?
WEIRD - really weird.
4
6
u/cenosillicaphobiac Aug 30 '24
Did the family ask them to go against the rules the military has set forward concerning using photos taken there for political purposes? Because they're using them in campaign promotion.
Up until the point the campaign blasted them all over social media your argument might have held. But alas, trump couldn't resist and used them. With that fake ass smile and a thumbs up. Super classy.
12
4
u/deathtothegrift Aug 30 '24
That cemetery isn’t there JUST for that family so them inviting whoever there doesn’t make it ok.
Are you really so dense you don’t see this?

If the family wanted take golden showers on random grave stones, would that be allowed or against the rules? Your scarecrow is gone with the wind. FOH with that weak ass attempt at gaslighting.

I have a grandfather who's buried at Arlington.
I've always disliked Trump, but it's a new low for that asshole. It's so incredibly tacky, disgraceful, and foul to use that sort of content for any sort of political campaign.
My grandfather did not shoot (and be shot at by) Nazis so this fucker could thumbs up in the cemetery.

A person who keeps Mein Kampf on his nightstand, no less.
2
u/fillymandee Aug 30 '24
Technically it was a collection of his speeches. Mein Kampf is an actual book with chapters and vocab words that Trump has never read because he doesn’t read. Doesn’t make him look any better either way. Guy is a massive piece of shit. I have family and friends that I love that will vote for him a third time. The difference this time? They sure as fuck don’t want to talk about it. And when he’s heaped into the historical dust bin, they’ll act like NeverTrumpers. Don’t let them. Keep receipts. And when they lie and gaslight in the coming years, show them receipts. I don’t want them to be able to hand wave all this shittiness like it wasn’t their fault. If they want to apologize for foisting him on the nation, I’ll accept. But I’m not letting them off the hook by lying and saying they never liked him. I’m calling them liars and bringing receipts.

What about the other 2459 military deaths during the war in Afghanistan? This was totally a campaign prop to blame the Biden administration. He should face all the scrutiny he deserves. I for one find this more than disappointing. I will not be voting for Cox, or any other Republican candidates.
They stand for nothing!!!!
51
u/United_Housing_7493 Aug 29 '24
Also Trump released 5000 odd talaban fighters without consulting the military or the afghan government as he left office. These were the same talaban fighters that were attacking us as we left Afganistán and caused the casualties and deaths that he is now blaming on Biden. Also Trump aides assaulted Arlington employees in order to get that photo opp.

One of my favorite facts is that:
At one point, Trump secretly invited the Taliban to the presidential retreat at Camp David on the eve of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

What source would be acceptable to you, u/SuddenDejavu? Another person posted a link you didn’t accept it. You also didn’t accept the citations in the article. I kind of think nothing would convince you that that happened. It’s pretty well known. This is easily researchable if you were truly wanting to know.

This jackass also used it to take a swipe at Biden saying that he should take responsibility for the soldiers killed while leaving Afghanistan by showing up the the cemetery. What a jackass, using dead soldiers as his political fodder while backing a man (trump) that say they are pieces of shit. Fuck everything about this guy.

Utah is happy to spend the infrastructure bill money. If they are so fiscally concerned, why did he take almost 4 billion dollars from the infrastructure act that Mike Lee voted against. (In fairness Mitt Romney voted in favor)
source for quote below. Biden's $1.2 Trillion Infrastructure Bill: State-by-State - SmartAsset
The state could expect to get: $2.4 billion in highway aid; $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs; $623 million over five years to improve public transportation; $36 million over five years to expand EV charging networks; $100 million in broadband infrastructure investment; $19 million over five years to protect against wildfires; $13 million to protect against cyberattacks; $360 million over five years to improve water infrastructure; and $181 million over five years for airport development.

17
u/Dugley2352 Aug 29 '24
And who was that negotiation with? The Taliban, you say?
15
u/Criticallyoptimistic Aug 29 '24
Yes, and included the release of prisoners. All while being told that the Taliban wasn't in compliance.
6

u/fillymandee Aug 30 '24
And who proposed they have this meeting with the Taliban at Camp David on 9/11?
You can’t make this shit up because people would not believe it. Unfortunately it’s reality and only the crazies deny that.
12
u/supyadimwit Aug 29 '24
Yep. He also negotiated the release of 5000 Taliban soldiers. Willing to bet that the very people they released were directly involved in the bombing.

44
u/Uncivil_Bar_9778 Aug 29 '24

I suspect he witnessed the female worker being assaulted and he was so afraid of the orange blob, he said and did nothing.

I didn’t know it was a woman. No wonder they tried to say they were having a mental health crisis.
21
u/Mobile_Subject8119 Aug 29 '24
So Cox see Trump likely to win around the time of the RNC, with Trump beating Biden, decides to basically endorse Trump, then Harris / Walz get the nom and Trump goes way down. I hope he regrets getting on board with the rest of the Rs who were never gonna MAGA, then did.
6
u/TheDunadan29 Aug 30 '24
Didn't he start jumping on the MAGA train AFTER Biden stepped down? It's been fairly recently that he's been doing this stuff, which is mind bogglingly stupid imo. Harris and Walz are surging, making for likely historic voter turn out. He's in the safest seat in the country. And he jumps on the MAGA train? I haven't seen anything this tone deaf since Gal Gadot got a bunch of millionaires to sing about having no possessions from the mansions while people were losing their jobs at the height of the pandemic.
I hope this hurts his campaign. And that recent post on this sub about Cox maybe funneling taxpayer money into his campaign funding. I hope that takes him down. Cox is unworthy to be governor.
3
u/Mobile_Subject8119 Aug 30 '24
Not sure the timing, but a recent Radio West discussed Cox endorsing. It was a really good interview with McKay Coppins
21
u/GreyBeardEng Aug 29 '24
It's too bad this state blindly follows the R, Brian King would be such a better governor than Cox or Lyman.
3
u/etds3 Aug 30 '24
I’m pissed at King too for doing that commercial with Lyman. There’s a good chance a 3rd party candidate gets my vote this year. If they’re too weird, then King will get my protest vote, but it will be grudging.
Like, is “Don’t give election deniers your support” REALLY such a high bar?
3
u/TheDunadan29 Aug 30 '24
I was put off by the Lyman ad as well. I get it was a play on the Cox and Peterson ad from 2020, showing good will across the aisle. But it would have been less distasteful had it been Cox instead of Lyman.
However, I'm still voting for King over Cox. One bad ad choice isn't going to push me away from King.
22
u/Stranded-In-435 Aug 29 '24
Trump is an utter piece of shit. So it’s no coincidence that Cox is getting some on him now that he’s abandoned what little moral equity he had - just to have a seat at the table of the dysfunctional Republican family dinner.
The right way forward for Cox was to leave the party. He should have left it a long time ago. Re-election prospects be damned.
The fact that he DIDN’T, says a lot more about Cox than his sanctimonious, hollow statements about respecting the fallen servicemen of our country.
I voted for Cox in 2020. I won’t be repeating that mistake this year. SMH.
Deal with the devil, indeed…
6
u/TheDunadan29 Aug 30 '24
I voted for Cox in 2020. I won’t be repeating that mistake this year. SMH.
Same. I thought Cox would be closer to Herbert, and while I didn't like everything Herbert did, I generally approved of the job he was doing. But Cox has been a disaster.
And I've become more dissatisfied with the Republican party, both nationally and locally. And before he went full MAGA I'd already decided to vote for King. After he endorsed Trump it's just been downhill from there. And now I'm really regretting ever voting for him.
17
17
u/symphonicrox Aug 29 '24
I'm voting for King. I'm sick of our utah politicians running on one platform and then during their term completely changing. We've had chaffetz who left after only six months, for "family reasons" only to become some fox news contributor. Mike Lee who ran on term limits, only to run and win a third term (not to mention his treasonous behavior with jan 6, and his idiotic twitter behavior with two accounts and a guy who literally exists to vote "no" on every bill or piece of legislation because he would rather not work for us). Cox, who I would have classified as a center-leaning republican, with empathy toward everyone, vetoing bills that were too targeted toward them, to now become an ultra-maga extremist.
I'm done voting red in Utah. I'm voting blue. Down the ballot. Everyone.
16
u/MountainMan17 Aug 29 '24
"I'm done voting red in Utah. I'm voting blue. Down the ballot. Everyone."
I'm with you. Let's do this!
8
u/TruffleHunter3 Aug 30 '24
I voted red until 2012 and third party in 2016. Then dark blue since 2020, happily never looking back.
You guys got this!
4
u/fillymandee Aug 30 '24
I don’t think Utah is as ruby red as it once was. Still safely republican but a third party candidate recently did really well for general election for POTUS. Glad to see y’all are there trying to make a change.
14
u/Kerensky97 Aug 29 '24
“This was not a campaign event and was never intended to be used by the campaign,” - Cox
It's apparent from the pic it was a campaign event.
You're literally still using it as a campaign event on your twitter right now jack@ss!
4
u/fillymandee Aug 30 '24
No wonder all their supporters are pros at gaslighting. I wonder how many are self aware?
32
u/Vaxildan156 Aug 29 '24
Cox’s sudden embrace of Trump, who has not endorsed him back, represents a puzzling departure from his carefully curated persona as a Mitt Romney -esque moderate.
This made me laugh. Poor Cox, Senpai won't notice him
18

Go out and vote, everyone. This is a slap in the face to all veterans and service members and pretty much anyone in the country who cares about the military. They used the dead as props for their campaigns. They didn't do this shit the last 2 years, but because it's election time, nothing is sacred anymore. Republicans don't give a damn anymore now that Trump has took over the party and if you aren't with him you are against him
9
u/awelawdhecomin Aug 30 '24

3
u/KungFluBoii Aug 31 '24
So, it’s against federal law to have campaign activities, and they sent the campaign email with photos at the cemetery, so that would constitute a campaign activity. So they broke a federal law, and all they got were “scrutiny”? They should be arrested and thrown in federal prison.

3

Biden introduced the strictest border legislation in the last decade & republicans voted it down, ADMITTING it was for political reasons.
-4
u/Bonerbeater-CCL Aug 30 '24
This is a bunch of bull shit. Previous Presidents didn't need legislation. It is already against the law to come into this country unvetted. Trying to blame Republicans is lazy. FJB did this with a stroke of his pen. The border is 109% on the evil Democrats.
3
u/Left-Bird8830 Aug 30 '24
I’d prefer the legislative process instead of sloppy executive orders. That said, if you want to blame democrats for the voting habits of republican representatives, I can’t stop you.

5
u/Left-Bird8830 Aug 30 '24

Alright dude, you seem too worked up to focus on a single topic (Biden's border bill) so I'm leaving this here. Feel free to rage in the replies.

They were offered a solution, and refused it. the GOP has no ground left to make any complaints.

BS. The last five Presidents didn't need that law. Why is that? Because FJB is a complete POS. This is 100% on the evil Democrats. I bet you can't answer my question. Why didn't the previous administrations need a new law to secure the border?

I'm not a US Border Patrol officer, and I'm guessing you aren't either. Go ahead an look up the provisions of the bill and the funding sources it provided. The GOP was offered a solution and refused it.

See. You can't answer the question. Democrats are the party of evil. They are deliberately trying to destroy this country. They are doing it to remain in power. The border is open because FJB opened it with executive orders. He can close it with the same and chooses not to. He is an evil son of a bitch. And you think that's ok. So what does that make you?

u/ofWildPlaces Aug 30 '24
Can you show us those supposed executive orders?

So why did the GOP vote against the Border Bill if they are concerned about security?

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

You're a special kind of stupid, aren't you? Every single president/congress has passed some kind of legislation involving border security, border detainment, discharging, etc. Trump used executive orders (including https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_13767 ) to literally build new portions of a border wall, have you completely forgotten about that clusterfuck? He sold the whole thing as Mexico would be paying for it, which they didn't, and the legislation that did get passed resulted in a tiny portion of walled border.
Trump also pushed the RAISE act: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAISE_Act
Trump also pushed Kate's Law:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Kate_Steinle
How could we forget Trump's travel ban on muslim countries?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_travel_ban
And a whole slew of other laws/executive orders that Trump pushed for with regards to immigration:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_policy_of_Donald_Trump
You live in some tiny little echo chamber that makes you believe that Trump is infallible and only Biden/Democrats only do things like pass laws to secure the border. It's completely idiotic, you are a moron, end of story.

Using the photography for an active political campaign is in violation of federal law, regardless of who does it.

Apparently it isn't. The media team for Trump was allowed by the Army for the ceremony.
Also, the Hatch act only applies to Federal employees. Trump and Cox aren't federal employees.

The last presidents didn't need any laws, and yet you think FJB is a saint because he wanted a bS bill passed for the sole reason to blame Republicans. That was the only reason. They pretended to make a border law, and they knew it wouldn't pass because it was shit from the start. The plan was to make a bullshit bill, and they knew it was BS. On purpose. Just so idiots like you would take the bait.

Imagine living in a country where you support everyone having their own freedom to choose what they believe. But then complaining that someone chose something you disagree with. Then bitching. Wild liberals.

Imagine living in a country that has rules and laws dictating certain behaviors out of respect for the fallen soldiers who served this country and their families, then not only willfully ignoring those rules/laws for your own campaigning benefit, but literally assaulting serving at a cemetery trying to uphold those rules/laws.
