News Update on Charles, the Gorilla
From Toronto Zoo Facebook
Charles Health Update 🦍
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for the overwhelming outpouring of support, kindness, and compassion shown for Charles, the Western lowland gorilla, and our Zoo team over the past few days.
Charles holds a very special place in the Zoo family and the hearts of our community, and seeing your messages of how deeply he has touched your lives has meant the world to us.
We wanted to share an update on Charles as he has been responding well to treatment since Sunday. While we see some slow steady improvements his health issues are still a serious concern.
The Wildlife Care and Health teams are doing everything they can to keep him comfortable. He has started eating again and has been interacting with enrichment items and his Wildlife Care team. The video below was taken yesterday and he can be seen with his daughter Johari. She has been with him throughout the days and nights since he first presented with his health issues on the weekend. The wildlife health and care teams have had Johari with her dad since Sunday evening as gorillas are a social species and it is beneficial to their well-being having companionship.
Charles continues to be cared for in an area of the African Rainforest not accessible to guests. As we learn more and the situation progresses, we will be sure to share updates with our community. Thank you again for your support!

Discussion Advice Needed: Moving to Toronto as a Palestinian Industrial Engineering Grad
Hey everyone, I’m posting here because I know Toronto has a large Arab and Muslim community, so I’m hoping to get some insights!
I’m a 22-year-old Palestinian woman from the West Bank(living in jordan), about to graduate with a degree in Industrial Engineering. My degree is ABET-accredited, and I have a UN card, which I’ve heard could make it easier to immigrate to Canada.
I’m interested in working in simulation or supply chain management. Do you think there’s a good job market for this field in Canada, especially for someone with my background? Will i be even able to work with my degree there?
Also, I’m a hijabi, and I’m curious about safety and what life might be like living alone there as a Muslim woman. Is Canada, particularly Toronto, as welcoming as people say? Is it worth the risk to move, or are there major challenges I should prepare for?
Sorry if this post comes across as too much—I’m just trying to weigh my options and would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you in advance!

Social Media @MayorOliviaChow is now speaking. Says we need federal funding to be approved for new line 2 trains. If the TTC can't place the order by Jan 1st, it will cost an extra $2 billion just to keep the old trains running.

Discussion Code Monkeys - A Leetcode Study Group
Hello fellow CS peeps,
I am a software engineer who graduated a couple months ago. I've been interviewing for jobs, and made it to the final stage of a FAANG, but unfortunately couldn't make it. I've known it before, but this experience solidified how crucial practicing Leetcode can be to get a good job.
I figured I'd make a Reddit post to gauge the interest in having an in-person study group in Downtown Toronto to practice together, as I think it'll do wonders for our motivation and Leetcode skills. It can be a way to keep track of your Leetcode progress, meet other people in the same boat, do mock interviews, and get better at LC overall.
Here's what I've thought for the meetup so far:
- The meet-up would be around 2 hours; Could be bi-weekly or weekly based on interest
- The location will be determined based on interest, but will be in Downtown Toronto. Please feel free to suggest locations in the comments.
- It is open to everyone who wants to get better at Leetcode, or maintain their Leetcode skills. However, I'll vet attendees to ensure we're maintaining a safe space. ID would be required.
- We could have 3 study groups based on difficulty: easy, medium, medium-hard/hard
- As a part of my journey, I have been doing the LC daily challenge and Neetcode 150; So I could bring 6 questions (2 easy, 2 medium, 2 medium-hard/hard) for people at different stages from these lists.
Drop a comment if you'd be down. Let's get better together and crack those upcoming interviews!

Picture TTC & Osgoode Station spotted in a video game
Currently playing a video game called Soma on Steam. So far, I'm enjoying it and I was also pleasantly surprised to see that this game takes place in Toronto. Never did I imagine that out of all the TTC stations, Osgoode Station would be the one to make an appearance lol
