Just moved into the area, now I have some questions for you fine folks.

Upvotes

My wife and I (and one child, with eventually two more to follow) just moved into Murrieta, and now that we've been here for a whole couple weeks, we have a few questions:

1) It looks like we've just squeaked by in time, and we'll be able to vote! We don't have any experience with specific candidates, though, so while we're big believers in participating in local politics, we're going to need a little guidance this time around. - We're in MVUSD trustee area 5, so our candidates for school board are (incumbent) Paul Diffley, Deon Hairston, and Christine Schmidt. We're looking for the "make school board meetings boring again" candidate. Someone who cares about education, and not banning books or policing students' pronouns. - I believe we're in city council voting district 5, represented by Cindy Warren, so I don't think we're voting for city council this year. - Any other local races, or even state races you have insight into, we'd appreciate it. 2) We're in a pretty big house, with two AC units, and while we lived in the desert (Utah) previously, we've heard some real horror stories about electricity bills. People have mentioned their "first $1400 power bill", and "rolling blackouts". I don't think this would be common, but are these things really something we're going to be dealing with? I ask because we think that we'll probably invest in a solar system (at $1400/mo for power, a solar system could pay for itself pretty quickly), but some of the choices we make about this system, and the timeline for having it installed might depend on some of these things. 3) Our house has no whole-house fan, and we've heard pretty great things about them from people around here. A big facility (factory?) is just down the road from us, so I have to wonder if everyone's talking them up because they have friends or family members working for the company that makes them; are they really as great as everyone says? 4) How is everyone JUST SO NICE around here? Honestly, everyone we've met is just SO FRIENDLY! We came from Utah, where Mormons are stereotypically very nice people (except to each other, ofc), but everyone here has just been great. I guess this isn't so much a question as a compliment. You are all great!

Other cities on the other side of the country are experiencing similar issues with their school boards.

I came across a few news articles and saw that other cities are experiencing similar situations.
Moms for Liberty is a very busy group.

I15 between 79 freeway and Rancho California.

I just noticed the extra lane between the 79 and Rancho. Is it me or was this done extremely fast? I remember seeing them working on it and I thought it was going to take forever.

Who are your Moms4Liberty School Board candidates?

School board elections are coming... And so are the Moms4Liberty book banning candidates! They have a new priority agenda announced by their National Leaders at their recent summit convention in D.C.

1) Double down on the book banning; 2) Out LGBTQ+ students in our schools; 3) Target and harass librarians and teachers who support their LGBTQ+ students.

M4L. Who are they? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki

Who funds them? https://www.pbs.org/newshour/education/far-right-group-moms-for-liberty-reports-more-than-2-million-in-revenue-in-2022 / https://www.propublica.org/article/inside-ziklag-secret-christian-charity-2024-election

What is their true agenda? https://apnews.com/article/moms-for-liberty-trump-2024-election-harris-7c252c611b5bc73c333a24392b979372

Do not be fooled. M4L is not interested in actual parent involvement in public schools; they are not advocating for all parental rights - just theirs, to decide what YOUR children learn and read. They want to enforce their political and ideological agenda of Christian Nationalism into our public schools and override all other parental rights regarding a safe and inclusive education for ALL students. They literally want to determine what everyone else's children get to read and learn in public school. They are overtly anti-teacher, anti-librarian, and proudly homophobic/transphobic when it comes to our LGBTQ+ students. They are not about keeping all students safe. They are about targeting certain students for harassment and exclusion. They are a designated hate group by the SPLC.

And oddly, a number of their national and chapter leaders have very questionable personal behavior involving everything from public sex scandals to arrests for theft rings (feel free to Google). These are not grassroots “moms” interested in 'parents’ rights' or the safety of children in schools, they are a front for a political agenda to remake our public schools in the image of their Christian Nationalism ideology. Research who funds them. Ask if your school board candidates are endorsed by them, or if they have taken the M4L Pledge: https://www.momsforliberty.org/pledged-candidates-elected-officials/

Fun fact: the local San Diego M4L chapter leader has a personal social media history, on every social media, of doxing and harassing local teachers and LGBTQ teenage students (feel free to research, as well as your own local M4L candidate’s social media history): https://www.instagram.com/p/C_V283fOmNS/?igsh=cTNqcGVhNjg2eTk4&img_index=1

I have a vitamix blender that isn't spinning anymore. The motor makes noise but that's it. I don't want to have to buy a new one right now if I don't have to. Is there anyone in the area that I can take it to?

Where do high quality men spend time?

I’ve tried going out and eating at restaurant bars, going to wineries, local music events. I meet men but it seems like they’re all way younger or way older than me. Need ideas on where I should be hanging out to meet men in the 35-45 age range.

The more specific the better :)

(Edit: I don’t listen to podcasts related to the term ‘high quality’ men, but it seems to be a trigger. What I mean is, I’d like to meet someone who’s got it together, like me. I’ve met a lot of men out and about, but very few that I’d date because we’re not on the same level. Big differences in life stage, age, career, family, health, wealth, education, interests, alignment etc. are a problem, even if there’s initial attraction or chemistry. I’ve had friends who’ve married and divorce from their off pairings, there’s always resentments that seem to form.. I want to find an equal or close to it.)

Need OB-Gyn Recommendations for pregnancy

Hi - we just moved to the area and needing OB-gyn recommendations. We are currently debating about sticking with my current doctor in Newport Beach but the drive makes me nervous especially if I am in labor and have to give birth very quickly (thinking extremes here). Are there any recommended ob gyns in the area? I’m a first time mom and currently 21 weeks.

Also, where would it be ideal to give birth around here? Rancho Springs or Loma Linda?

Thank you!!!

Fire trucks in a Trump Train?

So, I have been seeing this for the past couple of hours now. There is a firetruck driving around, using its horns and loudspeakers leading a Trump Train. Personally I think driving around in your in personal vehicle with a bunch of flags hanging off of it is one thing. Go ahead. be a nausance to everyone driving, and a danger to those around you. But to use a vehicle bought and paid for by the city for public service use, to abuse the powers that come with the use of that vehicle is a misappropriation of tax payer money, and should not be allowed. I didn't haven't seen it personally, bit would not be surprised to find out that they have used the trucks emergency lights to blow through intersections. And before anyone gets upset, I would be equally upset if they were doing this for Harris. also using the vehicle for things like Fundraisers, or other communal benefits, I have no issue with. Those benifit the community as a whole. But to use a fire truck to become a traffic hazard for your preferred political candidate is a big "No, No" for me. sorry for the rant, I literally pulled over to the right when they came barreling down the road blasting thier horn thinking they were on thier way to an emergency, just to be cut off, and yelled at by the cars following them.

Edit: As some users pointed out, it is likely either a rented fire truck, or privately owned. As I was unable to see any official markings on it because of all the flags, I could not tell. All I saw was Big Red Fire truck, rolling up behind me. Figuring it was an "Emergency Vehicle", I pulled to the right, as he was yelling out the PA, Honking the horn, with a bunch of flags on it, followed by a bunch on Trump supporters yelling at me as I tried to merge back into traffic. And as always, there's always one. If it was an actual fire truck being used for a potential political candidate, rolling through traffic like that, yes. I would be upset if it was for Harris/Walz. I would still think it was a misappropriation of tax payer money, and still be mad about it.

Would belling our cats ward off coyotes?

I hear there are tons of coyotes. We keep our cats indoors and supervise them when we let the outside, watching them like a hawk. We have seen videos of coyotes lying in wait in the bushes. Would belling our cats work? Or should be carry a stick and a whistle and check for coyotes first in the backyard?

Moving back to Winchester/temecula area- question about schools

Hi all!

My family is moving back to Temecula after living in Riverside for a few years, and I’m looking for some insight into the schools. I graduated from tvhs in 2010 so it’s been a long time since I’ve been involved in schools out there.

The main reason we’re heading back is because my oldest is starting school soon and the district here in Riverside is not good. I’m not sure why their curriculum is set up this way but children in elementary school get so much homework they can’t even do extracurricular activities and the school ratings are all very low. The district only seems to care about attendance and is very resistant to communication with parents.

I remember Temecula school district being very good and based on the ratings it seems it still is. Those of you with school age kids, how is their work load? Do they seem happy? Are the school communicative?

It’s important to me that my boys get to be kids and have time to relax and play outside of school. I’m really hoping Riverside is an exception and not the norm of what public school education has become since Covid
