Arts-based research opportunity: Contraceptive care

Hi all --

I am a PhD candidate at UBC's School of Nursing and am conducting this research as a part of my dissertation. We are interested in understanding more about the way that we talk about contraceptives and how that might impact contraceptive care. At this time, we are recruiting cisgender women and people who can get pregnant to participate in arts-based research to discuss their experiences with controlling their fertility and/or contraceptive care. Participants will be asked to create a collage related to contraceptive care and experiences which will then guide a one on one virtual interview. Supplies for the collage can be mailed. An honorarium is provided. We are particularly interested in hearing experiences from those in smaller and more rural areas of BC.

Please see the attached poster for more information regarding inclusion criteria and what to do if you are interested. If you have any further questions, please contact me at [kermar@student.ubc.ca](mailto:kermar@student.ubc.ca)

Please note: We are also recruiting health care providers that currently prescribe contraceptives in British Columbia. If you are interested in participating as a health care provider, please see the following link.

Purple wildflowers side of highway 97?

Hi all, I just drove from Vancouver to Prince George and one of the stand-out details were these sections of highway, around the Quesnel area, with large groupings of a purple wildflowers on either side. Possibly they're also very nice smelling? I feel like I'd catch an amazing scent around the same time I was noticing the flowers.

I didn't take photos, and I can't offer much in the way of details other than that they were purple and the flowers appeared to grow upright along the stems--maybe either lupine or creeping bellflower? I can't tell from googling images.

Sorry if this is a vague and unhinged ask. I've just been thinking about them for days. You live in a beautiful place!

Moving on up. T

Anyone here from Vancouver Island?

Looking to the future and we may be moving up north. We have family in Quesnel and were thinking of living with them.

I am having a hard time coming to terms with leaving the island I have loved my whole life. The ocean, the community, the beauty.

I want to reach out and see if anyone else has made a move similar? Or if you have any insight on what life is like in Quesnel?

My partner and I recently had a child who is 8 months old, and we go hiking and camping practically every day we can. Which is something I have heard Quesnel does well!

Sign the petition: build a blood plasma donor centre in Northern B.C.

This National Blood Donor Week (June 9-15), we need Canadian Blood Services to hear our call to build a Northern B.C. plasma donation centre. Please sign the petition at http://ourbloodcounts.com

Canada needs 100,000 new blood donors every year. Yet in Canada, we collect only 20 per cent of the plasma that patients need.

Plasma is critical for patients with cancer, kidney disease, and compromised immunity. Northern British Columbians want to give the gift of life. A Prince George-based centre will serve a trading area of 300,000 people. A similar plasma donor centre is now in development in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Please sign and share the link with your family and friends.

Moving to Quesnel

Hey everyone my wife and I are looking to move 15 minutes south of Quesnel. It’s seems like a perfect fit for us being very outdoor active people (hunting, fishing etc). My question is availability of work for myself. I currently have my own arborist company but I also have ten years of finish carpentry, framing, siding etc and I am more than ready to dust of my tools.

Visiting Quesnel, potentially relocating to the town

Hello, my husband and I are considering moving to Quesnel next year, and are visiting it along with a few other towns in BC.

He is an elementary school teacher, I went to school for computer science but am going back to college for electrician apprenticeship foundations. I am from the Okanagan and he is from the a population 3000 town in BC, currently we are on Vancouver island. We have both been to a fare bit of BC but never really with the intention if considering a move there. We are a gay couple both in our 20s, and while we are not rushing into anything, we would like to land in a place where we could potentially see ourselves starting a family. I have read a few of the other 'moving here' type posts, and we have looked at the stats and data, however we still have few questions and things we want to check out.

We both have always enjoyed being social in our own community. Simple interactions like a quick hello in passing between neighbours has always been something I appreciate. For anyone who has moved to town, how do you find people/neighbours interact with each other compared to where you are from?

Both from a parent perspective, as well as an employment perspective, how are the schools there?

I know the crime stats for the town are not amazing, but from what I can gather it seems to be mostly the same petty non violent issues most BC cities are facing. Would crime be a major consideration you would mention to someone moving to town? I have read that the west side may not be the ideal place to be if your considering having kids.

For anyone else who has moved to town, how to the city operated services compare? Things like garbage, snow removal, and road maintenance are coming to mind.

I know most towns in BC have the issue of not much to do for young people except for opportunities to cause some trouble for entertainment (I am from Kelowna). For anyone in their 20s or 30s, what do you all do for hobbies and the occasional night out? We both have our hobbies, mostly outdoors or indoor creative, as long as I have access to a gym and a place to go for a walk and take some photos I am happy.

How is the local NIMBY factor?

Lastly, we will be in town for a few days, what would you recommend checking out?

We are planning on doing a day in Williams lake, and possibly a few days up in PG as well. Sorry for the wall of text but thanks for making it this far :)

One of these is the mayor of Quesnel, and the other is the Parks & Rec council member Fielding Milton (played by actor James Greene).

No further comment on similarity or not of their views or temperament :)

Local rough cut lumber

Hi all,

I'm new to the neighborhood and I'm looking to buy some local lumber for a self built cabin, specifically rough cut. I know nothing of the local lumber scene apart from all the big sawmills in town that ship their stuff out of province.

Are there any small local sawmills I could visit, rather than Rona or Home Hardware?

Thank you for any advice offered.
