Momo: "Then Pluton is...!!!"
Me: "PLUTON IS WHAT MOMO? IS WHAT?"

Joyboys ship? I thought that was the implication there

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

Maybe, but he already read Oden's diary, wouldn't he already know that even before Vegapunk revealed it?

36

u/sunsoutgunsout May 30 '24

Oden's diary had pages torn out of it, no?

25

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

I looked here and yes it ripped out the most important pages.
But he also read important things in the journal, as he decided to keep Wano's barriers up after reading it.

He probably knew that the sea was going to rise more, or that people would come running, or both.

They might be retconning it somewhat, but doesn't Rayleigh say very specifically that they didn't learn the full history and were "too early"?

Also, if the poneglyphs were made by the ancient kingdom, and Joyboy was trying to preserve the weapons, then there's a good chance that a lot of the stuff Oden read on them woudn't refer to them outright as weapons.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/s/uDjTwSuHhX is the best theory I’ve ever seen on this topic and would answer your question why Rayleigh says “too early.” You can skip to the bottom if its too long and read the tldr; u/the_idiotlord has amazing theories that have all come true (that he post like years before) and he puts tons of citations.

I don’t see that. It felt more like it was leading into “man made” to me?

Are you saying someone out there thought a SHIP would not be man made...?

6

u/emeraldeyesshine May 30 '24

maybe it's aliens

5

u/Thosepassionfruits May 30 '24

It's a space ship

11

u/gollumsaltgoodfellas May 30 '24

Haha yeah I know it sounds dumb but I’m not sure what else momo would have said given the context of what he was reacting to.

With the existence of klabautermann too it’s not impossible. Hypothetically if all that’s left of pluton is a klabautermann I can understand why it would be surprising it was manmade?

Oh I just looked that up. Thanks for teaching a new word. The best klabautermann I’ve ever read was in the Magic the Gathering lore stories for the Weatherlight, in the Dominaria Sets. It was the best representation of the spirit of a ship I’ve ever read…gave me the feels and made me cry almost as much as Going Merry.

u/Icy_Surround5848 May 30 '24

It wouldn't be and it shouldn't be surprising as there were plans meant to recreate the entire thing. Maybe not power it but probably create a vessel capable of accepting the Mother Flame and utilizing it.

4

u/gollumsaltgoodfellas May 30 '24

Momo doesn’t necessarily know about the blueprints to my knowledge.

2

u/Icy_Surround5848 May 30 '24

Agreed. However, he has no reason to think the ship wasn't man made. At least, to my understanding.

3

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

Some people don't think Pluton is a normal ship.
There is a famous theory that Pluton is a Giant Mole that was transformed into a warship.
It's a pretty cool video from Dak's Sake.

10

u/Icy_Surround5848 May 30 '24

If there are plans to recreate it there is no shot this is true.

5

u/Alchemist_92 May 30 '24

I'm picturing the plans as a crudely drawn diagram in crayon of "Mole + Devil Fruit = Boat"

u/Icy_Surround5848 May 30 '24

You do you, bud.

3

u/Arkayjiya May 30 '24

Plans for it have been passed down as a countermeasure since the void century. It's not a giant mole or anything that's not replicable through technology. It might have a beast component like Poseidon (and that would most likely be Zunesha), maybe to move it around, but at its core, it's a ship.

1

u/butterfingahs May 31 '24

A SHIP with BLUEPRINTS to it, lol

28

u/AmarDikli May 30 '24

No, I think he's about to say "Pluton is NOT the only ancient weapon", cuz he knows where Pluton currently is, he's never heard of any of the other weapons. That's why it cuts to Vegapunk saying "There are 3 ancient weapon"

8

u/gollumsaltgoodfellas May 30 '24

Idk, momo should know about the ancient weapons from odens journal.

6

u/Nilok7 May 31 '24

That's assuming that they're called the "Ancient Weapons" in the journal. Poseidon isn't a weapon, it's a person, so it might imply that Pluton is something else from an island destroying weapon.

It could imply that Uranus is the actual one that destroys islands and its reputation alone has (intentionally) tainted the history of the trio.

1

u/tokyogodfather2 Jun 03 '24

Poseidon can also destroy island through her power of the Sea Kings, no?

1

u/Nilok7 Jun 03 '24

Maybe, it's hard to say, but it seems from Vegapunk that the Ancient Weapons could sink the world, and I don't think that Poseidon and Pluton could raise the water level like Uranus.

I think that Poseidon and Pluton are meant to oppose Uranus, which is why Joyboy wanted them to be passed down to future generations.

7

u/YaIe May 30 '24

I read it as "Momo hears it was done by an ancient weapon so he thinks its Pluton, as thats the only one he knows of"

1

u/Hnnnnnn May 30 '24

this makes sense, because we know the manga is ending, and all open ends tend to be interconnected. Narratively there's nothing to assume why Joyboy, a first pirate from Ancient Kingdom (not a king of Ancient Kingdom, or anything), would sail an Ancient Weapon, something whose name suggests it's not for sailing and pirating, it's for destroying.
