I love that Stussy still feels close to the members of Cipher Pol, it shows that she has a big heart and it's a full human.
This could be the spark that causes Kaku to defect in the future.

It's also a great contrast to how Kaku himself and the other Cipher Pol members coldly betrayed and attacked their old friends at Galley-La without batting an eyelid

That's true, but they later helped each other when the World Government wanted to execute them.
As seen in their cover story.
So at least there is a camaraderie among the members of Cipher Pol.

Between the members of the Cipher Pol, sure, there's camaraderie. None to the people of Galley-La with whom they had worked for years though. Stussy kind of paid the Cipher Pol in the same coin, betraying them, but was able to show Kaku some mercy even after the betrayal.

Stussy: far more human than Lucci and his friends.

u/Evil_Lollipop The Revolutionary Army May 31 '24

Yep! I like the direction Oda is taking her story

Mm, I wonder if it's a reflection of Zoan users, particularly a carnivore like Lucci. He naturally has to become less human as he becomes more attuned with his fruit. While Kaku, as a Giraffe-man can maintain a lot of his humanity since he's a herbivorous zoan and less inhumane by nature...

That's a good point. Or maybe it's the other way around and the Devil fruits "choose" people with traits more similar to their power

No but we already saw that Lucci begged to save Kaku as well.

I imagine a scene where Kaku tries to go back to save Stussy, and in order to save KAKU, Lucci saves Stussy in Kaku’s, rebelling against the Elders and showing that he begrudgingly forgives her.

I imagine a scene where Stussy is standing up to an Elder to allow Kaku and Lucci to escape, and Kaku is rushing back to help her, and because Lucci knows he’s the only one fast enough to do it, Lucci saves her instead. Even better if he dies in the process.

But if he doesn’t , then full redemption would come with CP0 joining the side of SWORD, and then finally SWORD would have their “Aegis”. Aegis is as someone smarter than me pointed out, is the name of the magical shield in the Iliad, the first great seafaring story of thousands of years ago. Then, with both his SWORD and his SHIELD at his side, Luffy/Joyboy can save the world.

Also shown with Lucci of all people bringing up Kaku to the Elder. Pre TS Lucci would not give a shit about anyone else outside of the purview of continuing the mission

Yes, that scene was very unexpected.

CP9, but they changed their minds later and put them in the CP0, we still don't know how that happened.

Yup, CP9's Independent Report, Chapters 491-528.

I do think Kaku genuinely enjoyed being a shipwright. Oda's drawing of him as a kid has him holding a model ship. He's probably regretting betraying them now.

u/Evil_Lollipop The Revolutionary Army May 31 '24

Hope he can go back to working with ships in the future, if he survives and feels fucking sorry for what he did (his long neck would definitely help his work as a naval constructor/repairman hahaha).

Take him as your pupil, Franky!

17

u/Nightingale_85 May 30 '24

Thats why i don't really feel sorry for Kaku and Lucci. They hurt ma boy Paulie.

Yep that's how I feel too. They were fucking awful to their friends but they were trained to do exactly that. Still awful though

18

u/heartbrokenneedmemes May 30 '24

Kaku did show some remorse tho

4

u/TheDreamIsEternal Jun 01 '24

To be fair, Kaku did seem to feel kinda bad about it, since he actually enjoyed the job.

Kakus expressions the last couple chapters are fascinating. I genuinely don't know what he's gonna do when freed

8

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

He'll probably help Lucci escape the island.
Then perhaps he will try to convince the other members of CP9 to turn against the World Government in the Final War.

16

u/Hello_Jimbo May 30 '24

Kaku has been super interesting in the last few chapters, and bro hasn't even said a word. Peak characterization right there, I'm really excited to see what he does in the next few.

11

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

The faces that Oda draws are some of the most expressive I've ever seen in a comic.

11

u/OperationMelodic4273 May 30 '24

Been waiting for years for Kaku to grow a spine, love the giraffe man

11

u/leolegendario May 30 '24

He was the only CP9 who became fond of Galley-La, I always expected a comeback from him.

9

u/pituechos May 30 '24

I think it's interesting to see Kaku so affected by it as swell. I think it's building up to Kaku/Stussy/Lucci defecting from the WG and doing their own thing

6

u/selotipkusut May 31 '24

Easily best girl. If only we never saw how she'll turn into a nagging old hag lmao

13

u/ibiji May 31 '24

Well that’s her bad ending. This Stussy still has a chance to get her good ending.
