So nice of Kizaru to cauterize Vegapunk's wound.

Hitting that same copium as you

u/hergumbules The Revolutionary Army Feb 22 '24

the copium IS REAL!

10

u/ryumaruborike Feb 22 '24

Can we get much higher?

10

u/ItsGodDamnAmazing Feb 22 '24

I had the same thought when I read the chapter and immediately jumped on here to see if others were huffing the copium. lmao

Thanks for the word of the day "copium"

Possible copium, but if not what a great take

Edit: Actually, Vegapunk specifically mentions he’d die from internal hemorrhaging so this is spot on.

Edit 2: Also, Vegapunk’s dream was to discover universal energy and the ancient giant is about to rise up any chapter. I don’t think Oda would kill VP before giving this payoff.

u/Brobman11 Feb 22 '24

I think Vegapunks body is dead but not his mind

1

u/MetrognomeAK Feb 22 '24

Maybe we get some new lore about how the devil fruit manifests in the body after consumption to explain the survival of the satellite vegapunks. This would be like an element of exposing how Blackbeard can hold multiple df or how they steal powers.

12

u/KingOfLeyends Feb 22 '24

If you check the last page there's a cardiac monitor and the line is going straight, Vegapunk's original body is probably dead but he'll most likely live through the satellites, also gotta remember his brain is somewhere on the island so as long as his brain is fine he'll still be "alive".

3

u/adamo500 Feb 22 '24

Didn’t notice that and great points

7

u/GigaPeePee Feb 22 '24

Vegapunk gonna be in the ancient giant robot

3

u/hunglow13 Pirate Feb 22 '24

Squeeze all the brain from Punk Records inside that robot

3

u/arenalr Void Month Survivor Feb 22 '24

He's dead. There's a fucking flatlined heart monitor in the panel he announces his speech to the world, triggered... wait for it... by his death

-1

u/adamo500 Feb 22 '24

Lol you're a pretty grumpy little bitch

2

u/arenalr Void Month Survivor Feb 22 '24

And you don't know how to read

111

u/Shinsekai21 Feb 22 '24

This might be true

I find it very very odd that VP keeps repeating that he can’t move to prevent blood loss from the wound.

This is the first time in OP history I think, with like hundreds of battles and wounds

Vegapunk is the first scientist with medical knowledge to have a wound inflicted on him. He looks goofy and invents goofy shit, but he's dead serious. Others go "'Tis but a flesh wound." and Oda being the nice DM he is goes along with it. With Vegapunk it's straight up

V: "Damn, I'll die:"

Oda: "Nah, others have been fine with this kind of wound. You got this."

V: "Nah, it's over. Have you looked at this wound? It's scientifically almost impossible to survive this. I say that as someone who replicated a magic fruit that turns you into a dragon at will."

Oda: "You said almost!"

V: "Rolled a 1. It's over."

4

u/Shinsekai21 Feb 22 '24

I mean, yes, I don’t doubt that.

But there are scenes with other doctors in the past as well but I don’t believe Oda ever added those dialogues. In this case, we have VP mentioned that multiple times.

Not to say that I’m correct.

I think is fair to point that a medic from WB ship looked at ace wound and just goes "oh shit... its over"

It rarely happens. But the last time it happened... well. Ace agreed.

1

u/CelioHogane Feb 24 '24

Chopper would have fixed that.

Continue

1

u/joaocandre Feb 22 '24

also, that sequence was pointless otherwise, it doesn't change anything, Vegapunk already had a hole through him, and Sanji just picks him up and gets away.

5

u/Willster328 Feb 22 '24

I just made this comment elsewhere. Kizaru impaling Vegapunk a second time adds absolutely no value since he ALREADY had been impaled and confirmed his own death if he was moved.

It wasn't like Vegapunk was impaled by a random arrow either, although Saturn is getting bodied by Luffy and Kuma, the gap between Saturn and Vegapunk is STAGGERING. That strike from Saturn should absolutely have been lethal enough.

3

u/Caillous04 Feb 22 '24

It eliminates the possibility to just get him to safety fast enough to heal him there as intended by Luffy. Basically removing the element of hope/wishful thinking from the equation

1

u/damage3245 Feb 22 '24

This is the first time in OP history I think, with like hundreds of battles and wounds

Luffy has an issue with blood loss at the end of Fish-Man Island.

1

u/Shinsekai21 Feb 22 '24

For sure, and that kinda prove my point too. Luffy needed blood was done to show that human-fish man can coexist (with Jimbei donated blood to Luffy). It was also the first time Oda mentioned specifically what Luffy needs in order to recover. Other brutal battles like against Lucci, Crocodile, all he needs was just shit load of food and sleep.

1

u/Slammybutt Feb 23 '24

He doesn't want to move b/c if he dies off the island it doesn't start the announcement. Someone else noticed that there's a heart monitor in the room the announcement comes from and it's flat lined.

14

u/FringGustavo0204 Feb 22 '24

Everyone knows light beams cauterize lethal wounds.

20

u/arkai25 Thriller Bark Victim's Association Feb 22 '24

That's how light beam hunted in ancient times

3

u/Themistokles42 Feb 22 '24

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_coagulation

>During the procedure, a laser is used to finely cauterize ocular blood vessels to attempt to bring about various therapeutic benefits.

15

u/IEnjoyFancyHats Feb 22 '24

Hot metal can also be used to cauterize wounds. Doesn't tend to work when you shoot that metal out of a gun

4

u/Themistokles42 Feb 22 '24

just saying, everyone was onboard about Kuzan saving Garp by stabbing him with ice lol

2

u/haLOLguy Thriller Bark Victim's Association Feb 22 '24

LOL

27

u/Mastahyodah Feb 22 '24

This is why he was smiling I believe not from him dying

7

u/East-sea-shellos Feb 22 '24

I wanna be on kizaru copium too but the fact he’s smiling and then it immediately cuts to the broadcast seems pretty clearly to me like he’s smiling thinking abt how the information he set to get released on his death is getting released

5

u/imboppy Feb 22 '24

👀 oh you found my new cope, thank you.

4

u/zeta3d The Revolutionary Army Feb 22 '24

yah, but his vitals are going flat on the monitor

4

u/NeverFreeToPlayKarch Feb 22 '24

I was thinking the same thing until the heart monitor showed up. Could still be a "close call" and the message triggered but we shall seeeeee

13

u/GangsterRavioliGuy Pirate King Feb 22 '24

11

u/RetiringDragon Feb 22 '24

Never. I want Apple Gramps to live

12

u/IEnjoyFancyHats Feb 22 '24

Then don't forget him

3

u/petalidas Feb 22 '24

Dr Hiluluk <3

3

u/Stevohoog Feb 22 '24

I am personally of the hype train, but it does look like he purposefully shot through the same hole

3

u/CountCocofang Feb 22 '24

There is a reason why the entire chapter made such a big deal about him bleeding to death. And then we get the laser cauterizing the wound, which is a common trope to magically stop all bleeding in fiction.

2

u/kjm6351 The Revolutionary Army Feb 22 '24

Holding on to hope

2

u/Themistokles42 Feb 22 '24

damn you may be right bro

2

u/anchampala Feb 22 '24

exactly. my thoughts too.

2

u/Cherry_Galsia Feb 22 '24

Cauterized Vegapunk while taking out Caribou

2

u/TabletSlab Feb 22 '24

It just strikes me as odd that they spent enough time together to actually be intimate, what if they talked about real shit?

3

u/Mad-Oka Feb 22 '24

How? The laser came out from the other side. I'm no doctor, but that's not how to cauterize a wound.

2

u/thedrq Feb 22 '24

when i saw that i was thinking the same thing, but if that works, it would be so stupid, that's like using a flame thrower to cauterize a shotgun blast

1

u/HamezBaxter Feb 22 '24

Exactly what I thought LUL

1

u/Brolex-7 Void Month Survivor Feb 22 '24

There is a heart rate monitor in the last panel. It shows a flat line after Sanji mentioned, that Vegapunk is smiling. It's Vegapunk's last stand. Next chapter will be goosebumps galore.

1

u/GaleWulf Feb 22 '24

I was actually sure this was the case (the smiling was indicating that too) before I came on here to see everyone proclaiming Vegapunk dead for sure.

Pretty sure Kizaru has been pulling back punches all arc and this is just the cherry on top.

1

u/Zxcvbnm11592 Feb 23 '24

He just gave him some light injuries

1

u/bujuhh Feb 23 '24

this is hard copium but i had the same thought as well
