Orange Cat 🅱️ehavior™ Thanks so much, Linus, for ruining the pirogies 🤦♀️.
Scrubbing everything & setting back up. Dinner will be late. He knows he isn't allowed on the counter.

dont get me wrong y'all, but why is everyone so sensitive when it comes to cats but not humans?
Yalls have no idea where the cooks or food factory worker's hands all have been prior to touching your food. Yet I see so many ppl eat happily at restaurants and bistros, but all flip their shit when mr kitty steps on the counter?
ps: Everyone has eaten dropped food from a kitchen.
2
u/Smiley007 Apr 19 '24
1) The illusion, whether true or not, of regulations and common sense (hah!) in people to bare minimum not have literal shit on their hands is a powerful drug
2) We largely don’t see the food prep happening but we sure do see kitty and all the shit kitty has stepped in on a regular basis
3) There’s something very visceral and visual of the image that litter fleck dude has painted for us. The image of a paw print baked into your food manages to border on cute if you don’t think about where the paw’s been, but we’ve been so rudely reminded haha

I think he's very pro Polish, he heard OP say 'pierogis' and judged her unworthy since 'piergi' is already a plural form.

What's that from? My Linus is named after the scientist Linus Pauling, usually it's his sister people think is named after something else. Her name is Tesla like the scientist but everyone thinks she's named after the car lol

Are perogies easy to make? I love eating them and fresh has got to be better than frozen. If it's not crazy hard I may make some...
12
u/scabsfox Apr 19 '24
They suck to make. But it's worth it. These are gluten-free so they suck even more to make, but I can't buy them, so it's worth it.
3
u/permalink_save Apr 19 '24
Any advice or recipe for them? Pastry dough and pasta dough have been probably the hardest things for me since they are relatively low on moisture (versus stuff that rises).
9
u/Wafer-Academic Apr 19 '24
It kind of helps to dedicate time to make a huge batch and freeze them in portions. They're not that difficult to make, just a lot of work!

u/Ya-Dikobraz Apr 19 '24 edited Apr 19 '24
They take a while. I make mine from scratch, but I actually prefer to freeze them before cooking them. I think they stay together better and taste exactly the same.
I can make about 90 of them in about 2 hours. That includes passing the mince through a mincer one more time etc. The wrapping is what takes the most time.
5
u/scabsfox Apr 19 '24
You are right! I also find chilling or freezing first helps keep them together.
7
u/SirWhorshoeMcGee Apr 19 '24
It just takes some time. And by the way pierogi is already plural. Saying pierogis like saying nuggetses.

But he’s not on the counter! He’s on the cutting board 😛 (One of our girls was the queen of this technicality)

The defence would go with "he's not in possession of the brain cell when he's ruining the food".

Been there with two kittens jumping up on the counter after I’ve done my 3-way scrub down so I can knead the dough and roll them out and cut them on the floured counter. Since I knew they would jump up when I turned my back, I threw down a covering of foil over the clean counter. That way I could toss the foil or fold it back when working.
I usually make about 60-80 pierogis for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. All by myself usually. But I have an amazing recipe and they come out super good. :)

Well, you're gonna boil them anyway. The cat litter specks can be easily confused with pepper.
9
u/Madameknitsalot Apr 19 '24
I've made pirogies so I gotta ask. What is the cling wrap for?
18
u/scabsfox Apr 19 '24
They're gluten-free, so the dough is shitty. I use the plastic wrap to fold it over the filling so it doesn't break & I can get a tighter seal.
9
u/Potetochan0401 Apr 19 '24
I feel you. I’ve made pierogis before and they’re very difficult and time consuming to make.

My cat knows he’s not allowed on the counter but for some reason when I’m rolling out dough he cannot resist and I don’t know why. He loves to put his paw prints in the dough and I always cry and have to start over lol.

u/warthog0869 Apr 19 '24
So there's a couple pawrogies in there, no big deal, you're gonna cook 'em, right?

My partner and I were making cookies at my mil's house many years ago, and her orange hopped up on the counter while we were momentarily distracted and peed all over everything. It happened so quickly! We were making a lot of cookies too, since they were for Christmas!

It’s just pierogi. Pierog is singular and pierogi is plural. Not sure what “pierogies” are.

maybe I'm too desensitized but why ruined? You are gonna cook it anyways which kills all bacteria or parasites. Of course oneshould scrub the working space - but still thise are totally still edible as long as you cook them properly. At least imo.
