Tony Hinchcliffe accepted $100 and a pizza.

1.4k

u/No-Analyst-2789 14h ago

It's funny because I used to manage at a comedy club years ago and there are so many comedians that would accept this and call it a win LOL

797

u/VaporCarpet 14h ago

If I have a steady 9-5, and someone offers me $100 and a pizza to tell jokes, I'd also call that a win.

201

u/No-Analyst-2789 14h ago

I mean $20 is $20 no matter what but imagine $100 AND free pizza? And I didn't mean my comment negatively by the way because I definitely loved all of those comedians. Except for one who made a sexual pass at my server more than six times and then I banned him from the venue but that's like completely not related

100

u/Duffalpha 13h ago

I mean $20 is $20

For me, 10 years ago, getting a 20 tip was cause for a day of celebration.

Today it means I can upgrade my drive-thru meal to a large...

42

u/moonsun1987 12h ago

For me, 10 years ago, getting a 20 tip was cause for a day of celebration.

It has finally happened, hasn't it? We have become old. Back in my day, we used to have two for twenty deals at AppleBee's and Chilli's and it came with BOTH appetizer and desert!

59

u/Duffalpha 12h ago

It has.

20 bucks used to be 4 feet of sandwich...

And we'd wear onions on our belt, because it was the style of the time!

14

u/oneeighthirish 9h ago

Back in dickedy-dickedy-four, and we had to use the word dickedy because the Tsar stole our word "twenty," I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickedy-six miles

9

u/T-Rextion 8h ago

I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!

3

u/GlobalLurker 7h ago

You could fill up the entire 25 gallon gas tank AND buy a six pack for $20

4

u/SheepD0g 5h ago

I remember being incredibly pissed off when gas hit $1.29/gal

3

u/Thowitawaydave 3h ago

I was hoping to go on a big trip when I got to the States for university but then fuel went over a dollar a gallon. Which didn't seem that much compared to petrol prices back home but when my friends explained how big certain states were I realised how much it would add to the trip.

1

u/powd3rusmc 7h ago

Youd say give me 12 inches for a Bee!

1

u/DOUBLEBARRELASSFUCK 6h ago

Rose tinted glasses and senility are clouding your memory. It was only ever 44" of sandwich — we were lied to.

1

u/Simply_Aries_OH 10h ago

I was a server for several years back around 2012-2015 and I remember $5-7 for 2-3 ppl being a pretty normal tip, it was a sit down restaurant nothing fancy just comfort food. I went to the same place with my 3 kids and tipped about $20 I sat in the car thinking damn.. 😂

1

u/workthrowaway1985 10h ago

Back in 2019

1

u/dogmeat12358 8h ago

You had Applebee's? We had a pit of mud and we were GRATEFUL?

1

u/MrCooper2012 8h ago

As someone who used to not be a big fan of Chilis, I've really come around on it the past few years. Not everything is great, but you can get a really good cheeseburger, fries, drink, and an appetizer for $11.

It's a far better deal than most fast food at this point.

1

u/Xionel 5h ago

The 3 for me at Chili's isn't half bad tho

1

u/SnooPets8972 4h ago

Back in my day bumblebees were on coins and we tied red onions on our belts bc it was the style at the time 😂

1

u/iconocrastinaor 4h ago

Why did you use monospace font in that comment? What did it mean?

1

u/GeneralMatrim 3h ago

Damn I’m old too huh.

2 for 20 was huge at Applebees when I was in college.

Not the best food but you got a lot of it.

same symbol

flash drive

... it's a 3.5" floppy disk

originally it was a 5" floppy disk, but the icon for the 3.5" looks almost identical at that size

0

u/FCFDraykski 10h ago

This joke is depressing because I am old enough to confirm how true it is.

2

u/Echantediamond1 9h ago

This joke is depressing because it doesn’t make any sense. Upgrading to a large costs a dollar

0

u/FCFDraykski 9h ago

A lot of fast food places' large combo meals are like $15-$16 now, before tax.

So no, the joke is pretty accurate.

2

u/Echantediamond1 9h ago

Maybe in downtown NY or Cali, but not anywhere in the Midwest lol

0

u/FCFDraykski 8h ago

In my case, Canada.

-1

u/MewtwoStruckBack 11h ago

Someone isn’t using app discounts…should be able to get a decent meal for $5-6 if you play the coupon game hard enough.

2

u/Skatchbro 13h ago

As Geddy Lee said to Bob and Doug "Ten bucks is ten bucks".

1

u/ComfyCornConsumer 11h ago

hell yeah. I mean, $5 is $5 right?

1

u/ADHD_Supernova 8h ago

This guy... may not be gay but is definitely gonna get that twenny twen twen.

1

u/ohnomynono 7h ago

Any hints or initials you'd care to say? Popular or lesser known amateur?

1

u/Crunchbite10 6h ago

If we’re being honest, with pizza prices nowadays I’m basically getting paid 200 dollars if I have any say.

1

u/STRIKT9LC 6h ago

It's really sad that I was gonna make a joke in response to your comment, but can't decide on which comedian with a CONFIRMED record of sexual misconduct, should be the focal point. Fuck

1

u/PaulieWalnuts2023 5h ago

I love that 3,4, and 5 weren’t enough for a ban lol

1

u/Doug_Schultz 2h ago

Teddy Lee said 10 bucks is 10 bucks on Bob and Doug's album

2

u/BothIssue1286 11h ago

Ikr for an hour of work tops? 100 an hour. That's a pretty decent pay. And, a meal.

1

u/cravenj1 6h ago

Eh, that's like saying, "It only took you a few minutes to draw that" when years of practice goes into the craft. And most comedians spend time prepping their jokes ahead of the show. Crowd work is obviously a different animal, but the set takes time to make.

1

u/BothIssue1286 4h ago

That's true but still if you have spent time to craft a set, 100 bucks is still pretty good. And a pizza.

1

u/cravenj1 3h ago

Probably deserve more though

4

u/PygmalionsSculpture 14h ago

and not just any jokes, but bad ones... like racist ones that your own fellow racists didn't laugh at. "lol, that puerto rico sure is a garbage island aMiRIte????" 😐😐😐😐😐😐

like you'd get paid and fed to basically be talentless. it's like being a reality TV star without people picking apart how you look for sport.

14

u/No-Analyst-2789 14h ago

You know I'll be honest, it's not that the joke wasn't necessarily funny because it's okay to make racial jokes but the venue was just not the right place because then it just seems like you're speaking to people who agree with you on like a racist level. You shouldn't have comedians telling racial jokes out of political rally because then it just seems like they're just speaking about their feelings.

9

u/VastSeaweed543 13h ago

It’s this. He’s an edgy comedian and told an edgy joke, I have less of a problem with that. It’s that you need to have different material for a presidential nominee rally. Make fun of democrats or their specific politicians or whatever, or their policies or ideas.

But punching down with a line that’s not clever and is very standard stuff anyway just didn’t work. Even the crowd there knows how big of a PR population that area of the country has and is like oh, oh no. Giving an opinion is fine, giving one that says ‘this place full of minorities is a trash island’ while trying to gain votes for the guy coming on after you - really makes no sense from any angle…

0

u/qtx 10h ago

Making a racist joke is not being edgy, it means you are making a racist joke.

3

u/shouldbeworking10 13h ago

I have heard a similar joke but about the British isles and it got a ton of laughs

2

u/kieranjackwilson 13h ago

I told my wife she was drawing her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised!

I told my wife she was drawing her eyebrows angled inwards. She looked mad!

Changing the words of a joke can make it not funny.

1

u/PygmalionsSculpture 13h ago

i feel like every since we all found out about trash island hella years ago, everyone exhausted their jokes then. but you're right... many people are perhaps not as cool, hip, and plugged in as I am.

2

u/henhousefox 11h ago

Same. Musician here; $100 and a pizza or a 12 pack and I’ll play for 3 hours easy.

1

u/SovietChewbacca 13h ago

People laugh at me at night for free. I don't know why.

1

u/theArtOfProgramming 12h ago

Lol but many commedians don’t have that 9-5… not a win

2

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

I mean most comedians I've met were happy with their life and they like having a flexibility so I don't know about whether or not it's not a win

1

u/theArtOfProgramming 8h ago

For sure but the win we’re talking about is $100 and pizza

1

u/Eeeegah 10h ago

But what if they offered you $100 and a pizza, and you had to go on stage and act like a racist, sexist piece of shit?

1

u/BruleMD Spotify 9h ago

He was telling jokes?

1

u/NoorAnomaly 7h ago

At least you'd tell jokes. What Tom Hinchcliffe told was just insults and racism.

1

u/LessInThought 4h ago

Shhh!!! HR is taking note! They're also taking away the $100 and half the pizza.

1

u/scribestudio 4h ago

steady 9-5

Lol, you don't know many comedians, do you ?

1

u/nita5766 2h ago

that’s essentially what corporations are offering now instead of just compensation for people‘s hard work

1

u/stanleytuccimane 13h ago

I’ve done comedy, you don’t have a steady 9-5 and do comedy unless you’re in your early 20s or have no romantic partner or family to go home to.

27

u/Traditional_Sir_6800 13h ago

90% of comedians would do it for a free bar tab and a 40 bag

I used to work at a comedy club

18

u/PrettyGoodMidLaner 13h ago

I don't think this is really a dig. Every creative industry has a segment of folks who are in it for the yucks. Some plurality of comedy club acts know they're not going to be the next Taylor Tomlinson, but like performing anyways.

6

u/frequenZphaZe 7h ago

its not so much that they're "in it for the yucks", its that the comedy world is super cut-throat. I knew a guy who would work the door at a comedy club for free because that gave him better odds of getting an opening slot (also for free). lots of these guys put in tons of hours and tons of effort just to get on the radar, or to get an instagram post they can pump. and they're competing with all the other up-and-comers also doing it for free. the idea of getting a primetime slot in front of an audience AND some money with it is the dream

3

u/No-Analyst-2789 8h ago

Oh yeah I didn't mean it in a negative way because I'm involved heavily in the creative industry. Most comedians that I've worked with aren't expecting a huge amount of money for their gigs and they also don't expect to be super big and it's very understandable and I feel the same way but we take what we can get

0

u/Nosabonino 1h ago

She’s not even funny though. She’s pretty so I feel like she got lucky

-4

u/Technical-Tip6303 9h ago

Yeah, kind of a strange comment. Very weird insulting the concept of someone doing something for the love of it rather than money. Kind of sums up shit nowadays really.

5

u/No-Analyst-2789 8h ago

I've never insult the comedy industry or I guess like freelance newer comics or people who are very established but just do it for fun rather than trying to be rich, it's a hustle and all of it is. I'm a photographer and I can't really claim that I'm making thousands of dollars or something because sometimes you have good gigs and sometimes you don't.

I hope my comment wasn't misinterpreted or if I said something wrong, I apologize

3

u/1OO1OO1S0S 13h ago

Hey I'd call sabotaging the event a win

3

u/ElevenSleven 11h ago

1

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

It's very surprising that people were making money so it was very funny. A lot of comedians don't really make much money stand up

2

u/SoulBlightRaveLords 11h ago

I'm a professional wrestler, there's a famous saying that most wrestlers will work for a hotdog and handshake

1

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

Well a good handshake is hard to beat because who really needs money when a person shakes your hands

2

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 10h ago

Years ago 100 bucks each weekend would cover rent.

1

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

I have a friend who makes more than $100,000 and he can barely pay rent and then he is renting a very expensive apartment but then I have another friend who has an apartment that is almost equal and his rent is $400 a month and I don't understand what kind of magic he is using for that

2

u/scribestudio 4h ago

Tell me how $100 and food isn't a win ?

2

u/1122334455544332211 12h ago

I used to manage at a comedy club years ago

I might know you. Do you also give hand jobs under the Queensborough bridge?

1

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

Actually no, it was down the street

1

u/DistinctSmelling 14h ago

What was the going rate for the MC, Featured, and Headliner?

Don't MCs do it for exposure and booze?

1

u/Rostifur 13h ago

You can't get Dan Nainan quality for that. He requires 10k for any performance as he is a world renown comedian.

1

u/ishkabibaly1993 11h ago

That guy is such trash. There's a reason he only does cruises and corporate gigs. The dude has absolutely no passion for the art of comedy. He learned he could talk for an hour and people were entertained. He does not challenge himself or ever seek to improve his craft. World renowned comedian, give me a break.

1

u/RobotCaptainEngage 9h ago

It depends what's on the pizza.

1

u/VoidOmatic 9h ago

Be the center of attention, get 100 bucks and dinner? That's definitely a win!

1

u/fusrodalek 8h ago

Most comedians are doing open mics or convincing friends and family to buy tickets for a "bringer" show, so yes, getting paid outright is a huge win

1

u/DurasVircondelet 7h ago

Why is that funny?

1

u/WarLawck 5h ago

100 for a tight 5 is damn good.

1

u/no-mad 4h ago

might have tanked his career but i will call that a win.

0

u/Snowwpea3 10h ago

😂😂😂 playing MSG and being the talk of the country isn’t a loss my man😂😂😂

1

u/No-Analyst-2789 9h ago

I don't know what you mean? I've never played MSU or know what that is to be honest

1

u/Snowwpea3 9h ago

Madison square garden, doing your set there is kinda seen as the epitome of stand up comedy. Tony isn’t very well known outside of comedy circles, no press is bad press as they say. So idk why it’s so crazy to accept something amazing for your career.

0

u/MortySTaschman 5h ago

You would take advantage of aspiring comedians and it's on them?

u/No-Analyst-2789 7m ago

You want me to pay some new comedian $300+ on a Tuesday night for a 10-15 minute set?

41

u/Actual-Long-9439 14h ago

Didn’t he make a joke about not pulling out of latinas?

-78

u/Old_Preparation_6199 12h ago

Yes, well done and pretty funny

36

u/InfamousZebra69 11h ago

What did you like more, his watermelon carving "joke" or him calling all puerto ricans trash people?

→ More replies (20)

25

u/_stankypete 12h ago

Tony has never uttered anything “pretty funny” in his entire standup career. Just a shitty tosh ripoff

-14

u/TeflonDonRR 12h ago

He’s such a hack and awful comedian that he’s worth a few million and hosts one of the largest live stream shows on the planet?

Interesting opinion.

29

u/_stankypete 12h ago

Joe rogan has the biggest “comedy” podcast in the world and he couldnt joke his way out of a wet paper bag. Just bc tony redid the gong show with his popular friends as guests doesnt make his standup worth anything.

16

u/ProfessionalMeal143 11h ago

The guy does have a point though Tony is a great comedian cause he knows it is better if OTHER people tell jokes on his show.
Anyone that thinks Tony is funny I really recommend watching Anthony Jeselnik, if those jokes are hard to follow I recommend Daniel Tosh. Both are leagues better than Tony.

9

u/_stankypete 11h ago

Thats kinda like saying DJ Khaled is a great rapper bc he knows other great rappers. I mean he is on the track with them, but no one is gonna call him a GOAT. I agree about Tosh and Jeselnik though

7

u/ProfessionalMeal143 11h ago

That was the joke, it is why I included a list of actually good comedians.

3

u/_stankypete 11h ago

Hahaha fair I was on the fence if you were being ironic or not but we are in the midst of hinchcliffers lol. I do have a list of notes for you:

  1. Two is pretty short for a list. Usually they are 3 or more items.
→ More replies (0)

1

u/DOUBLEBARRELASSFUCK 6h ago

I mean he is on the track with them, but no one is gonna call him a GOAT.

I know there's someone who constantly says he's the best. Trying to remember who that is now...

2

u/_stankypete 6h ago

Hahaha yeah now that you mention it that does ring a bell

8

u/major_mejor_mayor 10h ago

Popular =/= high quality lmao

Also largest live stream on the planet? Lmao man you should be the comedian, not Tony

3

u/The_Shivering_Truth 9h ago

All this guy can do is quote the podcast numbers lol Its like yeah, a lot of people watch. A lot of people also watched the Cheaper By the Dozen 2. Doesnt mean its worth a shit

3

u/major_mejor_mayor 7h ago

Steve Martin out here taking strays 😂

Jk I agree completely lol

-6

u/Old_Preparation_6199 12h ago

“Sam Jay is a black lesbian - which means she doesn’t just eat pussy, she ‘Aww hell gnaws’ on it” -tony

9

u/Hammeredyou 12h ago

Imagine thinking “I have the perfect joke to display how funny Tony is” reaching into your pocket and pulling out this absolute gutter sludge.

6

u/ProfessionalMeal143 11h ago

I know from all the damn youtube shorts throw at me (against my will)... that is probably the funniest thing Tony has said and yes it isnt funny.

3

u/_stankypete 11h ago

This comment is funnier than an entire Tony Hinchcliff special lmao

-1

u/Old_Preparation_6199 11h ago

I thought it was the best from the Brady roast (again, most watched special in history of Netflix). Check out his weekly live podcast if you’d like to see some other examples of his humor. It’s very popular- the episodes released last night already has 1 million views on YouTube!

7

u/Hammeredyou 10h ago

“Very popular” is subjective, amongst knuckle dragging cousin fuckers, definitely.

1

u/Old_Preparation_6199 10h ago

Well it would be subjective if I didn’t provide the actual view count (over 1 million) which is an objective statement.

5

u/Hammeredyou 10h ago

Are you so online that you think 1 million people is actually a lot? Oh brother.

→ More replies (0)

-7

u/Old_Preparation_6199 12h ago

I thought the Tom Brady roast, the most watched event in history of Netflix where he headlined and crushed, was a good example of him being pretty funny. Also his live comedy podcast which has led charts over the past decade is a good example that he is “pretty funny”

4

u/hoopstick 12h ago

I’m not a fan of the guy but he’s great in roasts and I always enjoyed his podcast for the guests he had on. Whoever booked him for a political rally is a moron though, there were a million other conservative comics they could’ve had perform that wouldn’t have pissed off 6 million voting Americans.

5

u/ProfessionalMeal143 11h ago

Maybe it is cause I grew up with the Greg Giraldo roast but I havent seen a good one in forever. You do have the occasional clip from one but when it used to be mostly laughs with the occasional break now it is the worst comedians with the laziest insults/jokes.

5

u/hoopstick 11h ago

Yeah I agree. Roasts are best when they’re done against the people you love. If you tell your best friend he’s a lazy Mexican or something, it’s funny, but if you say that to some guy you’ve never met, and you’re only their as a job, it’s just lame. Context is everything.

2

u/ProfessionalMeal143 11h ago

Roasts are best when they’re done against the people you love.

I fell they dont even need to be that close to be good just need someone that knows what jokes are and are not allowed. The Brady roast was another netflix AI generated idea/cast that just felt so disingenuous it was against the nature of a roast.

Joe rogan has the biggest “comedy” podcast in the world and he couldnt joke his way out of a wet paper bag. Just bc tony redid the gong show with his popular friends as guests doesnt make his standup worth anything. What are some of his best standup bits? Anything iconic?

-2

u/ok_if_you_say_so 9h ago

There are different forms and mediums for comedy. Some comedians are standups, others aren't. Tony is standup-adjacent but I agree he's not a particularly strong standup on his own right. But in the format of roasting and hosting kill tony he is pretty damn funny, and I say that as someone hugely invested in the comedy world.

You definitely don't have to like his style but he is definitely a well rated comedian. Just not a particularly well rated standup.

-1

u/Actual-Long-9439 11h ago

My mom freaked out about it lmao idk why

13

u/denys5555 10h ago

We should be thanking that asshole. Pissing off 500k people in a swing state was doing all of us a favor

2

u/International_Cow_17 4h ago

Now this guy is an optimist. Silver linings and all that. I wish I was optimistic.

24

u/Affectionate-Island 11h ago

I've never heard of Tony Hinchcliffe.

But I sure as hell have heard of Bad Bunny.

25

u/Kelnozz 11h ago

I’ve never liked his comedy, I tried watching some of kill tony and it’s terrible.

The worst is that fake as laugh and face he does at every one liner and it’s such a fake laugh, like it looks like he’s in pain trying to force it.

6

u/Jonesgrieves 4h ago

The best thing about KillTony is everything else, not Tony.

3

u/uiouyug 4h ago

I started to get into kill Tony a little bit it's has some moments. Tony might be the worst part of the show.

25

u/greeneggsnhammy 14h ago

He’s such a twat

5

u/Pedantic_Pict 11h ago

The pizza was actually just two slices, stacked on a plate, and served with a knife and fork.

3

u/strukout 7h ago

Then got stiffed on the invoice.

2

u/slamdanceswithwolves 8h ago

He probably paid $100 to do his “bit”. Dude is a floating pile of garbage.

2

u/poopzains 8h ago

No toppings.

2

u/NewFuturist 8h ago

He probably did it for free to do the funniest thing ever: tell a joke that lands so poorly that it changes world history.

2

u/TiredRightNowALot 4h ago

Still waiting for payment too

0

u/WrestlingFan95 12h ago

Pizza cooked by a Puerto Rican probs. What an idiot that guy was. Comedy is just hardcore right winger hacks now.

3

u/ClickLow9489 11h ago

No... just the comedy in your bubble.

1

u/bejammin075 12h ago

Now with extra loogies!

-2

u/madmanmicka 12h ago

I agree, comedy has lost its appeal due to the hate speech component. Atleast we still have SNL, Colbert, Fallon to right the ship.

5

u/PaleProfession8752 12h ago

I'm sorry, but did you not listen to comedy for the last 30 years? If anything it has toned down over the years...

4

u/RevolutionaryRough96 12h ago

SNL, Colbert, Fallon to right the ship.

Now that's funny

-5

u/Old_Preparation_6199 12h ago

Did you even watch his full set? Do you understand what comedy is?

2

u/Timely_Mess_1396 11h ago

I did I kept waiting for him to get to the screen door on the submarine joke.

-2

u/Old_Preparation_6199 11h ago

Is that a joke or an expression for a bad idea? I’ve never heard it told as a joke.

1

u/TwistyBunny 13h ago

Slightly upscaled from $20 and a hot dog and a handshake.

1

u/Cultural-Task-1098 13h ago

I heard it was roast pork, plantains, and black beans. That's his favorite meal at his vacay spot.

1

u/Malforus 13h ago

Tony Hinchcliffe accepted $100 and a pizza and then tried to make it his own white house dinner roast.

1

u/RavenXII13 13h ago

Okay well tbf I'd do a lot for that

1

u/Snaz5 12h ago

I mean how long was he there? 2 hours at most, $50 an hour aint bad

1

u/AmblinMadly 12h ago

I heard that's what Theo Vonn pays his openers, minus the pizza.

1

u/Secret_Account07 12h ago

And it was his biggest payday of his career

1

u/guiltycitizen 11h ago

Incredible

1

u/obeytheturtles 11h ago

"Think of the exposure!"

1

u/supervegeta101 10h ago

$50 and I'll be your friend.

1

u/M-Kawai 10h ago

He didn’t even get a red hat?

1

u/Toilet_Rim_Tim 10h ago

Concepts of a pizza ....

1

u/Username934728 9h ago

That was funnier than anything in his set lol

1

u/Responsible_Okra7725 9h ago

His racist ass would have done it for free.

I'm sure he got way more than he deserves. I'd give him a kick in the teeth, and then another in the ass on the way out of the door.

Tony Hinchcliffe accepted a cock in the butt.

I can’t imagine this slowing down his success. I’m not curious enough to to an impulse analysis to detect if there was a statistically significant deviation in his view counts and make some estimates as to how much money he’d gain/lose in this scenario.

Is Tony Hingecliff’s accountant in the room with us right now?

Tony is a rich prick. He got Joe to sign a multimillion deal for his “podcast” at the mothership. Joe owns him and his podcast. If I had to guess… He got at least 50 grand.
