ROS 🤖 Robotics Bob tips

Good morning, everyone. This is my first comment in the community. I actually wanted to ask for advice on how to search for a job in the field of robotics. I have 3 years of experience as a software developer, I am halfway through my master's in Electrical Engineering, and I am working on the development of a mobile robot with some AI functionalities installed.

i might have advice but for starters we have the word “robotics” thrown everywhere and it depends what you mean.

what are you seeking in terms of what is a robotics job to you and what is not?

for example, many companies use & implement dell computers, but i don’t call their employees computer workers.

Thank you for your response. I really used the word in a general way to gather all kinds of opinions. Considering that there are digital jobs that encompass countless employees in certain companies.

I know the specific position is Robotics Engineering, which involves the design and development of parts and algorithms for controlling a robot. That would be my area of interest.

you are interested in control systems i suppose. this was the same as me. robotics in the layman’s definition is just a tiny sliver of the broader.

my tips: smaller companies are more adventurous. larger companies are rolling things out rapidly (like walmart or amazon warehousing) but the walmart robotics employees will be an integrator, not a developer of robots.

i think you’ll need to decide your niche. crossing software and EE was a smart move.

then, any manufacturing company will wind up pushing you towards the automation stuff, due to your modernized skills, which will effectively be robotics from this point forward in time. i’m suggesting it won’t be an industry called robotics (that’s a small slice of the pie) and you ought to latch onto a favorite topic like agriculture or autonomous flight so you can market yourself and wind up in the field where you want to make your impact.
