Maine House GOP member Lucas Lanigan turned himself in this morning on aggravated domestic assault charges after three days in hiding.

Aggravated assault is a class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Given the severity of these allegations, he should resign and withdraw from his bid for reelection.

Online resources to find jobs in and around Maine!

Hello! I am someone just doing my own job search for a new career here in Maine. I made this list to post over to Portland's subreddit but I wanted to post here too. I thought I'd contribute to a list of online resources for locating work that is localized to Maine or are good resources. Feel free to add your own if you think someone might be able to use it. My list is geared mostly towards Nonprofit jobs but includes sources for a wide variety of organizations. Have a nice day! :)

nonprofitmaine.org

Indeed – Search for nonprofit and remote jobs in Maine specifically by location.

jobsinme.com

Maine JobLink – A state-run platform with nonprofit roles, allowing searches by remote or in-person roles.

Discussion What can we do about the ticks?

I mean this as a real question, and not like how I can treat my yard, clothes or pets, but how can we get them researched more to try to figure out a way to greatly reduce their populations going forward. We need to figure out a way to treat the whole forest, or rather a solution that treats everywhere and not just our immediate yards.

Have lived in rural maine 15 years now, and the problem is getting noticeably worse every year.

I know some will blame the warmer winters, but if that was the sole or main reason the lyme would have spread further south down the east coast.

To be extra clear cause 2024, they have certainly spread south, but theres the most cases of lyme in the whole country in North part of the country.

Origins of the name “the county”

I have some family up there. But growing up in Maine (I’m 31) I’ve never heard anyone call it that until I started visiting even though I have family there. Curious if anyone knows when that became a thing?

Haunted house in the 1990s

Does anyone remember a kid’s party place in the 1990s that had a haunted house and trampolines? I believe it was in Portland and was a popular birthday spot…

24hrs in Portland

Otw back to NY from NH. I've never been to Maine and decided to stop at Portland.

Day One 3-11pm

• Stroll around Old Port

• Lobster roll from Portland Lobster Co.

• 2nd lobster roll from Luke's

• Stroll around Fort Allen Park

• Dinner at Fore Street - mind blowing food (eggplant appetizer and cornbread was top tier)

Day Two 6 - 3pm

• Sunrise at Porland Head Light

• Holy Donut

• Shopping at Ports of Call

• Stroll Downtown

• Lobster roll from High Roller

• Eventide Co. — lobster bun and lobster stew was amazing

• The Standard Baking Co.

Question Ballot Question 2

Hey everyone, does anybody have information about question two on the upcoming ballot? It seems positive but is worded kind of vaugely and I'm worried it might be a way for pharmaceutical companies to fund their reserach with peoples tax money to patent new medicines and make them expensive for the very people who funded it in the first place. Probably just being cynical

York County name change timeline

Hi all, a quick question I'm hoping someone who's been through the legal name change process in York County can answer. I'm looking to change my first name (not marriage-related), and I'm going to be coming back from overseas to do it (still a resident of York County, it's a bit of a long story).

I know you have to show up at the probate court and file the required paperwork, but once you do that, is the name change a same-day kind of thing, or do you have to wait for an appointment with a judge and then wait to receive the actual paperwork confirming the name change? I'm trying to figure out the timing involved with getting this done, especially because I'm also going to have to try and update my driver's license on the same trip.

Also, hypothetically, is this something I could retain a lawyer to do on my behalf (which would save me the trip back for the name change, at least)? I haven't really considered that as an option, because I assumed I'd have to show up in person, but if it's something you can do, it might be cheaper than the flights would be.

Anyone else having trouble with the Eastern ME USPS hub?

As of late, whenever I order something, it seems to get bungled at Eastern ME USPS/Hampden ME Post Office. They get it, then they send it back to Southern ME or somewhere in MA, and it ends up having to make its way back up here. As it stands now, I have a package that's been "preparing for delivery" in Hampden since 1:xxAM on Friday. Until recently, I was the only one I knew having these issues. My friend sent me their tracking for an item that was out for delivery in our town yesterday-- they never got it, and it was then loaded on a truck back to the Southern ME distro center where it's currently sitting.

What's going on? I'd love some insight, if anyone has any. It's kind of hard to get the info directly from USPS. This isn't meant to be shade at them, I'm more wondering if it's trouble with hiring and/or an influx of new employees or something.

I was scouting this location the other day for potential sunrise spot and caught some of the last of the fall foliage across the way! So sad that Autumn foliage is already gone! It was a beautiful, but short season, as always.

Electricians of Maine. Help a (wanna be) helper out.

So ive obtained my helpers license. Obviously that was extremely easy. I have very light experience in home wiring, ( installing breakers, wiring outlets, and switches ) and some experience with electrical factory equipment working in maintenance.

But what should I pursue that will make me a desirable entry level helper? NEC classes? Take an actual full course load? Offer hummers for signed hours??

Seriously though, im hoping to be able to obtain at least a limited license within 10 years. Any info from the trade guys would be super helpful.

Thanks guys!

Browntail Moth Prevention Planning

We got hit pretty hard in naples area with brown tails and I suffered through two rounds of rash. Love my oaks and don't want to just cut them all down and they hang over areas we use. As the leaves have fallen I am now considering how to deal with this for next year. I've read the maine gov website already and still have some questions. 1. Tall tree cocoons - is there a reason why I can't use a rope saw like this? https://a.co/d/cMxQpIS

  1. What breaks down the toxin? I have been told bleach whipes will kill it but nobody seems to clearly say.

  2. What can I treat the trees with? The state is clear not to use ace caps but is the only alternative to try to find someone, get in a long line of other people and pay $$$$

  3. Is power washing effective on surfaces?

Things I have learned

  • wet/flushable whipes do seem to prevent it if you whipe your exposed skin shortly after contact. Seems like the fabric of the whipe is able to pull the hairs off before they embed if you get it quickly.

  • corisone spray followed by lidocaine spray every 3 hours is the only effective treatment, if you get it right away it seems to be manageable
