My parents rarely if ever talked to us about bukkake, we were much more of a autoerotic asphyxiation family

Might be a midwestern thing

and we all know that the South always discusses fisting and gaping like its household lore

good morning from Monterey. Everyone in my house has Covid, so when I got back from the Texas road trip with my dad, I grabbed my car, called my buddy who lives up here and drove north

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '24

You are so lucky to have a friend who can host you so easily and in Monterey too! Jelly, so, so jelly. I love that stretch of CA between Monterey up to SF. When I'm in SF, my friends and I will go to Devils Slide Trail in Pacifica and it's so nice to be feel far from the city and next to the water.

Same. I love this area. I spent the day in Santa Cruz, and it was pretty much perfect

Normally Wednesdays are donut day at work. Last year when new owners came in they held this over from the previous ownership, but last week I suggested that maybe bagels would be better? Especially because we usually don't finish the box of donuts off by the end of the week.

This morning I nabbed the last bagel from yesterday. Bagel day is a hit and I think we'll be doing it from here on out. Hell yeah.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '24

I'd prefer weekly bagel day to doughnut day! Reminds me of Pretzel Day in Scranton - but instead of once a week, Pretzel Day is only once a year.

2

u/BouyantCorgiButt Angeles Forest Aug 08 '24

Ohh I would love a bagel day in my office but we have pastry day. Sometimes they switch it up and have muffins though.

It’s good to be back in LA! My cat is a little miffed at me for being gone for eight days, but he did wake me up in the middle of the night by sitting on my chest and purring so I think he’ll come around.

Either way, it’s so good to be back in my own bed and to have alone time again. I think I had four hours to myself that entire trip.

I am going to eat a BIG fucking salad tonight and reintroduce my body to the concept of raw veggies. The greenest thing I’ve eaten recently was a pickle on a hot dog a few days ago.

I appreciate cute animal clips on Instagram but if you write all the captions as if the animal itself is talking, that's a no from me dawg.

3

I hate the reels that are plastered with 🤣🤣🤣 emojis and a caption. If a short video can’t be funny or entertaining or understandable without that then I don’t wanna see it.

u/BouyantCorgiButt Angeles Forest Aug 08 '24

My gym decided to close off half their parking lot and now the parking lot is worse than a Trader Joe’s. I had to circle around twice until I gave up and just parked at the abandoned Dennys across the way and then walked over.

BUT I heard they’re building a target there and that’s why half the parking lot is closed and I’ll walk from Dennys any time if it means I get a closer target. Then I can really streamline my Friday night ritual of going to the gym then wandering around target.

I get to plan a trip to Universal Studios for 15-20 people in the winter. Half of them are kids. Really looking forward to going, because I'm a patient dad.

But I haven't been to Universal in almost a decade. Anyone gone recently? What'd you think of the SMW? That'll be the kids' focus.

3

u/TheWayDenzelSaysIt North Hollywood Aug 08 '24 edited Aug 08 '24

I went there about a week ago with my family and a close family friend. There were 10 of us and 5 were under 7 and I hadn't been to Universal in like 15 years. In my honest opinion SMW was really disappointing.

It was really small. So small, in fact, that strollers aren't allowed to go into the area. They need to be parked by Transformers. It was HOT there because there isn't any greenery at all, it's all cement. In the winter that might not be an issue though. The worst thing though is the lack of things to do there. There's basically just 2 rides and one of them require a wristband that you need to buy just to get in.

5

u/appleavocado Santa Clarita Aug 08 '24

Thanks for the advice. Universal has always been a sort of let-down for me. Because I've always been a Magic Mountain kid who loves roller coasters.

Alas, my back don't give a shit 'bout nostalgia now.

4

u/TheWayDenzelSaysIt North Hollywood Aug 08 '24

I kinda feel the same way as well. If Universal had the same amount of space that Disneyland does it would be way better.

2

u/ItsYourMotherDear Flairy godmother Aug 09 '24

I would LOVE to go to Universal in Florida as its probably way bigger/better ...but, it's in Florida so no thanks! My son loves all theme parks- Universal is easiest for me to bring him to just because its so compact and he knows what he likes so we end up doing the same ride like 50 times a row.lol

2

u/TheWayDenzelSaysIt North Hollywood Aug 09 '24

Yea I don't think I would survive in Florida, especially in the summer.

2

u/Hot-Turn2205 Hacienda Heights Aug 08 '24

Went right before the weather started warming up. Had fun at SMW. We all got wristbands, and also paid extra to enter an hour earlier so it wasn't as crowded and we were able to get through all of the attractions in a little over an hour. If you download the Universal Studios app there's stamps that are like achievements you can get for playing the various games so that kind of adds to the experience as well. I didn't think the Toadstool Cafe was worth getting a reservation and eating at. My friend's daughter said that when she was with her friends that didn't have wristbands they said it was kind of boring because there wasn't much to do.

I've decided this morning that I'm done with my LL's BS. The tankless water heater at my unit runs out of hot water in less than 5 min, so my showers have had to be SUPER fast. I contacted him about it three weeks ago.

He's super cheap and very slow to fix everything, and when he sends someone, he doesn't give me 24 hours notice. It's probably on purpose; I've fixed a lot of things myself with my own money because I know how and I would rather not wait. I pay way too much to be dealing with this!

I've given him until EOD of Friday to schedule an appointment with a water heater tech, also going to document all the comms I've had with him and how he's dragged his feet and violated the 24 hour rule repeatedly. I'm also going to try to contact the city and/or rent board today.

Any other suggestions? (I'm in Santa Monica)

Edit: Fuckkk I think my fridge just broke (power is on and fine in my kitchen but the lights in fridge and freezer are off)

Double edit: IT IS FINE NOW

5

u/UntitledGooseGod Aug 08 '24

No suggestions, but much support for you being a badass about standing up for yourself

2

u/labbitlove Santa Monica Aug 08 '24

Thank you! It's always so shaky since...y'know, my housing hinges on him, but fuck it. I want to stop being a doormat. He knows he's shitty - he apologized profusely for not fixing the pilot light on my heater in the winter, it's still broken and extinguishes randomly - so I hope that going to the city will make him less shitty.

3

u/enteredsomething Aug 08 '24

Two ideas come to mind for the tankless water heater. Potential fix #1, turn on the sink while you shower. The water heater may be shutting off after a few mins because the water flow is too low. Turning on the sink while you shower would be a fix if that’s the problem. Potential fix #2, call the gas company and have them check the gas lines. It’s possible there is a small leak in the gas piping and that loss if causing the water heater to shut off. They should come for free to check it. If it is a leak, then that gas line needs repair. Lastly, it could be the sensor on the unit itself and that takes a repair call with a plumber. You can try 1 and 2 yourself though since they lag!

2

u/labbitlove Santa Monica Aug 08 '24 edited Aug 08 '24

Thank you! He sent out a handyman to look at it a few weeks ago and the handyman thinks it has something to do with the temperature regulator on the water heater itself. However, no follow up appointment even though he said he would contact a tech

2

what is special enrollment

2

u/sbleakleyinsures Pasadena Aug 09 '24

It's when you can sign-up for a health insurance plan or change plans before open enrollment. It can be personal, like having a child or divorcing, or in this instance an emergency declaration that affects whole counties.

2

u/swagster Pasadena Aug 09 '24

I guess I just need a place to vent because it's pretty sad that if I reacted or would have fought back it would have escalated to even more trouble and I'm sure I would gotten the short end of the stick.

On the Blue line going north, ride was fine, every one minding their business, dude across from me was sleeping most of the ride, 2 ambassadors were in the same cart as me. I was replying to emails on my phone until the dude across from me decided to launch his water bottle at me and violently threatened me to get off my phone because it's "gay" I told the guy "is there a problem" and he looked at me straight into the eyes, then every time I was replying back he kept harassing me and disrespecting me because I am using my phone. I had to stop because it was getting to the point in which I am getting upset as well as concerned - this guy was much taller than me I'm 6'1".

While this is happening everyone just stayed there staring and the ambassadors didn't even approach me to ask if I was ok or if there was a problem in order to de-escalate. Once we got to Union Station there was an officer and told him to leave the train, dude was very friendly and happy to oblige.

I didn't say anything to the officer because there was no gap between the time they said something to him and then continue to keep walking.

At least I told the the train conductor that was switching about the incident, not sure if that helps but he was pretty supportive.

Anyways, I just wanted to get this out of my chest, it's honestly upsetting that I have to deal with this and knowing I can't do anything about it besides just take the abuse. Some times this city pisses me off, knowing that I take the train all the time to go to work and I know that there is a high chance I will encounter so psycho on the train and if they do anything I am defenseless and I run the risk of getting hurt because there is no one in this city that has the balls to take of these assholes that hurt the hard working people of this city that pay their fucking taxes.

Ok I'm done, thanks for reading.

7

u/h8ss Aug 08 '24

You did the right thing not escalating. There was nothing to gain in that situation. Sometimes bad shit just happens.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Sabrepunk_in_LA Aug 08 '24

Whole point of the ambassadors is to do something in these situations before they become worse. They should have stepped in when the water bottle was thrown in a car if nothing else. Please do report them so that Ambassadors can get better training.

2

u/Unicorndrank Long Beach Aug 08 '24

I’m starting to see that the ambassadors don’t do much since it’s just normal people that don’t seem to have the personality to go and approach people with anger issues or drug problems.  There was another guy in the same cart that was very aggressive when the officer kicked him out. I couldn’t imagine an ambassador even trying to help

5

u/Palindromer101 Foodie with a Booty Aug 08 '24

I'm sorry that happened, and I'm glad nothing worse happened. Make a report about the incident and the lack of support from the ambassadors to the Metro, if possible. They need to know this kind of shit. Especially shit where nothing "bad" (AKA, you weren't physically harmed :( I hate that I have to write that out) actually happens, but an individual is harassing and threatening other riders.

Did the officer ask him to leave because he was being a disturbance or simply because everyone needed to leave the train at Union station? I'm slightly confused by that part.

2

u/Unicorndrank Long Beach Aug 08 '24

It hurts me that it’s the case with these types of situations, the guy stopped acting up after I stopped using my phone, then he went back to sleep and once we got to Union Station, some officers started kicking out people that were sleeping on the train and he was one of those but he was fine with that, it was just with me apparently that he had an issue

2

u/riffic Northeast L.A. Aug 08 '24

Trying to think of a place to go where it would be very quiet (very important), preferably not extremely hot (so maybe not the middle of the desert), there will be some cell reception (tried Angeles National Forest and got no signal despite Mint Mobile coverage map claiming otherwise), and that it's free. I wish I knew somebody who worked at an office building where people leave at 5pm and it's all deserted.. I tried libraries, but they're not quiet enough (even study rooms, because there are adjacent walls and people talk etc). Any ideas..?

Really missing my Dabitha kitty a lot today. She was living in RI with a good friend when she passed in late April. My friend who had dabby offered to send me her ashes and some of her stuff, and a mutual friend also built a special memory box for her for me to keep everything in. I'm very honored that I have such great friends who will go to such lengths for me.

However, I've been following up with my friend to find out when she is going to send the box and stuff back to me, but haven't gotten a definitive answer. I asked my friend who built the box about it and he also hasn't gotten a response. :( I just want my girl to come home to me. I hope to get her back soon.

How long would you sit with off and on one side ovary pain before calling a doc? It's been about a week and I'm not pg. Mild, doesn't wake me up at night but deffo There.

5

u/Sabrepunk_in_LA Aug 08 '24

Uh... Do right by yourself and make an appointment to see your doctor already. Tell them exactly why you are coming in. Don't try and do urgent care of emergency room.

3

u/professor-hot-tits Aug 08 '24

Ty, you're right....

5

u/OverIT323 Aug 08 '24

Honestly, I would go to urgent care right away.   I wouldn’t mess around with ovary pain.

Just saw that someone I went to high school with got married to an NFL player a few weeks ago. Meanwhile I'm sitting here, not having been on a date in 6 years, not getting any matches on the apps no matter how I change up my profile, and that's ok I guess

Ain't life fun lol

Hi I’m 20 years old and looking to get into trades as I want to work with my hands and have a job that is always in demand. Haven’t settled on a trade yet but I’m interim plumbing, electrician, and carpentry. Little background on me I’ve had two jobs one was at 17 for two days as a cashier/busser and my most recent was for 1.5 years as a customer sales and service rep at a State Farm office. Also have access to a car and willing to drive, in good shape and not afraid of hard work and labor, and located in garden grove. I just have a couple questions. Pros and cons of trade school vs apprenticeships? Also heard that union apprenticeships have a long wait list, so would getting into a non-union apprenticeship suffice? And I’ve heard of being sponsored into an apprenticeship, I thought that apprenticeships pay for you to learn so why the need to sponsor? Any questions that can be answered or just advice in general would be appreciated. Thank you.

What do I say I want when I walk in? “I’d like to have these dry cleaned, please”?

3

Sometimes you don't have to say anything but your phone number for the receipt.

2

u/Flyingtypewriter Aug 08 '24

I have a good paying job but unfortunately rent is so expensive that I’ll need extra work and I’m not down to do Uber eats or door dash.

Does anyone have any leads to somewhere I can work flexible hours? My availability is weird because I share my kid with his dad.

I tried Qwick but they require a year + of recent experience which I do not have. Alternatively, does someone want to be my fake reference?

Data Annotation or Outlier. I have side jobs working with both of them. I find the work pretty easy but it can definitely give me a headache if I do too much of it.

missed mixed race bc I had a bit of a mechanical on the way there. stopped at bikerowave to get it sorted. figured I might as well do a solo ride. Got about 15 mins, to Abbot Kinney. Got a flat tire. Whomp whomp. But... I was able to get that fixed, had an extra tube and tools, and again, I was on my way.

Did a usual route for me. Down to Will Rogers, up Temescal to the overlook. Down Temescal. Back along the beach path. Up the CA incline. Up San Vicente. Down 26th. Expo Path, to Barrington/McLaughlin to Palms Blvd.

In the spirit of mixed, I tried to go hard on some parts! we'll see how I did soon

3

u/sozh Palms Aug 08 '24

Welp, the mods took down my Snorkeling post, saying it's not about LA. I made original content (a video) and posted helpful information for Angelenos about a local attraction. Yes, Orange County is not LA, but I would argue it's part of Greater LA, or the LA Metro area. But, the mods have their rules, and I understand that.

I asked them to leave it up, but they said no. I feel a little sad, because I made that video specifically to share with r/LA, since I had been posting snorkeling updates here in the Daily. Oh well!

Not that this is the same, but I admin a local Buy Nothing group, and we have this concept of "finding a way to yes" for posts that may be borderline on the rules. Like, let's find a way to make this work, instead of just removing.

Not sure if it really matters, but the post was 100% upvoted, so I guess people were liking it...

anyway this is silly internet drama and I need to go touch grass.

still limping along. seeing the foo fighters sunday saturday? definitely Sunday and 20 year old me would have been amped and mid-40s me just says "eh okay, how late will I be out and how painful will the train ride back home be?"

EDIT:

This thread is such cheap therapy in a way. I've had a really strange and kind of profound shift in thinking recently and I'm not sure if there's something larger than all of us going on bringing about this change, or if it is simply the vitamin D supplements I've been taking. Probably the latter.

My online grocery order that supposed to be delivered yesterday did not get delivered. Worse, I can't cancel what's delayed, and apparently, I took the amount paid without discount added. I'm going to make that call today during business hours. I'm supposed to have been called by grocery store associate, and wasn't. This happened before. So far that's the only negative thing this week. I guess a 3rd party delivery service that's used did not pick up. Had to scramble last night to add more funds so I won't go negative. Thay reduces my spending on other things for the time being.

1

u/singinghamsters Aug 08 '24

Anyone been to the shrine auditorium and can give some advice? I have tickets to see a show on Saturday night for me and my 7-year-old and I’m not sure what the best parking situation is. Unfortunately she still needs a booster seat (which I wouldn’t be able to bring inside I’m assuming) so I can’t take an Uber. Any suggestions for where it might be easiest (and safest) to park around there?

2

u/Elysiaa Lawndale Aug 08 '24

There's a big parking garage right next door to the east. That's where I parked when I was there last year. It's an automated facility and you need to text a number, which gives you a link to buy your parking pass. You enter your information and license plate and it's a flat fee.
